I figured after visiting the park and seeing the new movie, it would be awesome to take a look back and rank the films. Mine are as follows:

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
4. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
5. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
6. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

10. Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets

I really didn't like the first 2.

1.Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt 1
2.Prisoner of Azkaban
3.Sorcerer's Stone
4.Chamber of Secrets
5.Goblet of Fire
6.Order of the Phoenix
7.Half Blood Prince

I don't believe i've seen them all, or the newest one yet. But I will say that I am not a huge HP fan. I really liked the first one. It was something new, interesting, and a cute story. The rest have not been that good to me. But as I said, I am not an uber fan.

1. Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Goblet of Fire
3. Order of the Phoenix
4. (tie) Sorcerer's Stone, The Deathly Hallows Pt 1
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Half Blood Prince

Interesting results so far. It seems everyone is in agreement that Half-Blood Prince was lacking.

Everyone also is pretty excited about Deathly Hallows 1, and I agree that for the most part it was well done. I would have put it in my top two if the director didn't make some changes (from the book) that irritated me...

SPOILER ALERT!!!

1. What kind of battle scene was that at Malfoy Manor? In the book it was breathtaking. In the film it was kind of like wand, wand, wand, big swirl aaaannnnd... we're done. The reason Half-Blood Prince was so disappointing was - in-part - to the anemic battle scene at the end. This director flubbed it again. I'm afraid to see the final battle in Part 2.

2. He eliminated things that didn't need to be taken out. For instance...
When Harry buries Dobby, It would have been easy to include a shot of Dobby's grave marker (Here Lies Dobby, a Free Elf) and a shot of Griphook watching Harry dig the grave. These are important to the story (especially Griphook), and wouldn't have added any more time since instead we got a 5 second shot of Harry sitting in the grass looking sad.

And... When Ron returns to the woods, he claims Dumbledore gave him the lighter (whatever it's called) because he knew Ron would leave. In the book Harry responds, "No, he knew you'd come back.", in the film Harry says something forgettable. Why???

OH! Why no shot of Dudley shaking Ron's hand? We saw Harry standing in the driveway for long enough...

Don't misunderstand, I don't have problem with all omissions. Kreacher's tale was left out, as was Dumbledore's backstory. Easily eliminated and saved a lot of time, I'm cool with that. But these kinds of changes (above) really got under my skin.

What did it do right? Loved the story of the three brothers, Bathilda Bagshot was creeeepy, Hermione being tortured was horrifying. I really liked the scene with Ron and the Locket/Horcrux. Acting was very good. I didn't even mind the new scene with Harry and Hermione dancing (although it confused people who are only casual fans).

Thanks! Needed to get that off my chest...

OMG I completely agree with you! I sat and told DF the exact same things that you brought up. He kept asking me questions after the movie cuz he hasn't read the books, and I have. I was so disappointed when they left out the Dudley scene and the part where Harry and Lupin get into a really big fight. I really thought that since they split it up into 2 movies that they would have had more time to put more stuff in. But I still really liked it.

On another note...

1. Sorcerer's Stone
2. Goblet of Fire
3. Half-Blood Prince
4. Deathly Hallows part 1
5. Chamber of Secrets
6. Order of the Phoenix
7. Prisoner of Azkaban

I agree that some scenes left out of the movie from the book were diasappointing, I especially missed Kreacher's tale and his redemption. However, this was by the far the most accurate adaptation from book to film. Sure things like the grave marker, and changes in dialouge bother the uber fans but those who go for the films, probably not that much.

I thought the added Harry/Hermione dance was such a sweet moment that really showed the bond between them, which I think was needed right after the fight scene with Ron. I also kind of liked the dialouge change when Ron came back and Harry cracked the joke about "the little ball of light to the heart", it was a quick laugh break in the darkness and yet summed up Harry forgiving him.

For the first time I really liked a lot of the dialouge from book to film, especially between the trio, Ron and Harry's fight was heartbreaking as well as the locket horcrux scene. Also, the River of Dean when Hermione says, "We should just stay here and we can just grow old together by this river." That line coupled with her talking about her parents not knowing who she was and Ron being gone, was brilliant in showing Hermione clinging to the only thing she had left in the world and knowing that one thing was destined to probably die. This film really captured the bond between the three of them and the darkness they faced both together and separately.

1) Sorcerer's Stone - This was the movie that introduced me to Harry and his world.

2) Deathly Hallows Part 1 - My Favorite book of the series

3) Prizoner of Azkaban - This movie enticed me to read the books!

4) Goblet of Fire -

5) Chamber of Secrets - least favorite book- movie was pretty good

6) Order of the Phoenix - Really loved the book was very disappointed in the movie

7) Half Blood Prince - They really missed so many important elements from the book to the movie. I was not happy!

I honestly like each film that comes out more than the last. So I would probably say that my favorite is Deathly Hallows Part 1, followed by Half-Blood Prince, and so-on to Sorcerer's Stone.

Prisoner of Azkaban is our favorite.
Sorcerer's Stone would be next.

I'd have to watch all the others again to rank them.

I am new to Harry Potter. I have all the movies that are available in DVD. Should I read the books first or watch the movies first? Normally I really enjoy reading the books first but then I do not enjoy the movies as well. Which should I do first? Any opinions I would greatly appreciate.

I say watch the first few movies first, especially if you know you don't typically like movies as much if you read the books first. I watched the first 4 movies before I started reading the books, and then I started reading them cuz some of the stuff in the movies started to get a little confusing to me, and reading the books helped clarify a lot of things. When I started reading the books I was worried I wouldn't like the movies as much, but I loved the movies. But I still say watch the first 3 or 4 movies first and then start reading the books, or just wait and watch all of them first.

Thank you for the advice. I will watch the first 3-4 movies and see how it goes. Then I will start reading the books. I am so looking forward to World of Harry Potter.

I went to rank them, and found I can't really rank them. :lmao: I've enjoyed them all. I can honestly there is not one I like better than the others.

I'd say to maybe watch movie 1 first, so that you have a picture in your mind of the characters (and don't develop a different one from the books). And then read the books before each movie. The books have so much more in them. The movies are great companion pieces to the books.

In terms of ranking movies.
1. Deathly Hallows & Philosopher's Stone tie
2. Half Blood Prince
3. Goblet of Fire
4. Prisoner of Azkban
5. Chamber of Secrets
6. Order of the Phoenix (loved the book, the movie was just NOT written well at all!)

SPOILERS

In terms of them changing things in the movies, specificially in the end of ht e6th movie, it's been stated that they added in the fight at the Burrow, to have some kind of "battle" and then took out the fight at the end so it wouldn't take away from the battle of Hogwarts in the end of the 7th.
Other movies have had it far worse, example, the entire ending of POA was changed, and OOTP didn't get half of the point of the story across.
Thats just my 2 cents haha.
