While at the gym today I was reading a magazine article about a woman that started an organization to support soldiers that didn't receive letters. Well, when I checked out the website, in order to participate you have to pay. So, my thought was, my DD6 will be out of school as of next week for the summer and she loves to color. So I thought it would be a good idea for her to color pictures for our troops and send them over to Iraq. Does anyone know how I would get an address to send them to. It is a shame to know that there are soldiers over there, putting their lives on the line and never receive mail from home. And this is something my DD would enjoy doing. TIA

I was part of a huge Christmas card project and I know at that time we had trouble sending them because for security reasons mail from unknown persons was restricted. We were told that there was a chance it would not get to anyone unless we used a return address of someone they knew. Our work around was to contact a base here in Texas and send it over with a unit that was deploying (is that the right word?). We sent over 300 cards, over 100 letters, and a ton of chapstick. We did find out that there are organizations that are approved to send care packages and such and you can send things them and they will get them into the right hands.

Thanks HaleyB....I did some snooping and found on the Navy sight that this is discouraged because of security issues. And that there used to be way to send mail to "Any Soldier", they have stopped delivering mail addressed this way. Oh well, it was a thought.

I have heard that you can send mail (maybe email) to a site and it gets to the soldiers. Of course I don't know where I heard it. I will check at work tomorrow. Maybe someone there knows about it.

If you do find out, please let me know. This would be a great thing for my DS to do.
