I will be in WDW 14 nights.
I have the following question. say we have a non park day (we only bought base tickets) and we want to go from POP to say the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian for dinner or lunch? How would we do that?
If we take the bus to MK or EPCOT how would we grab a bus or the nonrail to get to another resort? Would we have to use a ticket for the park in order to use the monorail? I'd buy more days as the price isnt much different but you can only get a 10day park pass... am i making any sense?
any help is appreciated:confused3

That'll be a piece o' cake for you... Bus it over to the Magic Kingdom and jump on the Resort Monorail loop, which will take you (eventually, after stops at the Contemporary and the TTC) to the Polynesian and the Grand Snoridian (:rotfl:). You don't need to enter the Magic Kingdom to access the Resort Monorail - simply walk off the bus and follow the signs up the ramp to the platform. Getting back is even easier - jump back on the Resort Monorail and get off where you began, at the Magic Kingdom. You'll then simply walk back to the bus and return to Pop Century in no time.

Enjoy! :goodvibes

There is also a boat that goes to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian which leaves from the Magic Kingdom boat area. 1st it stops at the Grand Floridian, then the Polynesian and back it goes to the Magic Kingdom.

I think the boat would be faster and perhaps less crowded.

I agree. Most folks don't know about the boat. Even when I stayed at the Polynesian we'd try to take the boat first instead of the monorail.

For either Magic Kingdom or Epcot, you don't have to enter the park if you take a bus from your resort. For the two places you mentioned for for a mean, going to the Magic Kingdom would be the best option. The bus will drop you off outside the turnstiles and you will simply walk down to either the boat dock or up to the monorail and go over to either the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian.

thanks guys
i was so worried i'd have to use a ticket to just get from one resort to another...
how about other resorts like YC, or WL....how owuld i do that go to MK or Epcot and then take a bus?

Yes, or for YC you could also go to DHS and then take the boat. Again no need to enter the park. No bus from DHS to the Epcot resort though.

They won't ask for your ticket. Walk right onto any Disney transportation - bus, monorail, or boat.

If you catch the boat at the right time, yes, it's pretty quick. However, if you see a crowded dock with no incoming boat, then hop on the monorail. As for coming back to the MK from either the Polynesian or Grand Floridian, the monorail is almost always faster (especially from the Floridian). :goodvibes

Generally speaking, it's best to head to a park that is either close to the resort you are at, or close to the resort you want to get to, then transfer to the resort you want to go to. For instance...from POP...if you wanted to get to any of the monorail resorts (GF, Polynesian, CR) head to MK then take a boat or the monorail (but boat is faster usually) to the Polynesian or GR. Walk to the CR, via the walkway between MK and CR...about 8 mins.
To get to the Epcot resorts (S/D, YC/BC, BW), take the bus to Hollywood Studios and either walk to the resorts (about 20 mins to YC/BC, 15 to BW) or take the boat. You could take the bus to Epcot but you would have to enter Epcot in order to get to the resorts because they are on the backside of the park.
AKL? Head to AK and then transfer to the AKL bus. WL? MK and then the boat to WL.
When all else fails, you can always take the bus from POP to DTD and then transfer there, but it is really time consuming.

I agree with you that going back to the Magic Kingdom from the Grand Floridian is faster by the Monorail, since it's the very next stop once you leave from there. However the Polynesian might be different because once the boat leaves from there it goes right to the Magic Kingdom, where as the Monorail will 1st stop at the Grand Floridian. Although if you were having dinner at Ohana or Kona Cafe they are right on the 2nd floor of the GCH and a very quick walk to the Monorail station, then going all the way to the boat dock.
