How wet do your shoes get?

Need to know how wet our shoes will get on Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids.

I absolutely HATE to be splashed with water, so in all probability I will NOT be going on Kali. I watched the AK special on the Travel Channel yesterday and it bothered me to WATCH those people being drenched. Oooh - it gives me the shivers sitting here thinking about it! DH and DS don't care if they get wet, but I am pretty sure I won't be allowed to hold their shoes while they ride! DS has flip flops we can toss in the backpack, but DH refused to buy flip flops when they were in season and now he doesn't have any!

Just wondering how soaked DH's tennis shoes will be.

And really, how wet do you get on Splash if you aren't in the front? I want to go on Splash but I do not want to get wet. Even if we ride right before we go back to the room for a break I need to know how much water we are talking about.

Dh rode Kali a couple of times in a row and he was drenched everywhere.

my ds and I rode kali twice without getting off and we were barely wet. Splask mountain my ds went twice once with me and once with my dw, and he was not very wet there either. I was a little more wet than Kali, but nothing that didn't try after 10 minutes.

We rode both and heres what we did. For Splash Mountain, there is a little spot for you to tuck your feet into, push them right up in the little space, they should remain dry. And on Kali, we got completely drenched on it except our feet. They have a bar to put your feet on I swear using that is what keeps your feet from getting wet. Wear a poncho on both rides, I have seen several people do it, myself included one night because I didn't want to ride the busses back to our hotel and freeze on them. Don't miss out on them! Enjoy your trip!

My shoes NEVER got wet on our last trip (not saying yours won't). Depends how rides "place" you and turn you around.

I never once, in 6 trips, brought an extra pair of shoes, but do not quote me for my own personal advice for my family "You won't need them". Others have stated the will and do.....if you can swing another pair, bring them. (Even though I don't-but I live in Florida-I'm use to wet shoes, but also know the next day I'll be changing them out-this is for everyday wear).

I know NOT much help-maybe a personal choice! :cool1:

I think his shoes will be OK. For SPlash Mountain, if you don't want to get wet, you maybe shouldn't do it. Though I haven't been on it yet, I think the amount of wetness changes ride to ride. I was on a flume in the Mall of America recently, everyone I talked to said, "You don't get very wet". Everyone coming off the ride looked pretty dry. I got on and got drenched. Bad, bad. From the front I looked soaked, but from the back...I looked like I peed my pants. It was not fun. Maybe it was a fluke, but if you don't want to get wet, you may get the fluke like me! LOL!

I always wear a good sport sandal while touring and my feet dry quickly plus they don't get hot.

Our repeated experiences over the years:

Splash = Damp. Droopy Hair. Clingy Shirt.

Kali = DRENCHED. EVERYWHERE. DRIPPING. SLOSHING. SQUISHING.

Splash Mountain is designed to fling a few cups of water your way. Some folks in some logs get more damp than others. The front rider can get a bit more splashing than other riders.

The "splash" at the end of the BIG DROP is actually a controlled mist SPRAYER (that can be turned down or OFF in cooler weather).
The waterfall just before your log enters the "Zipadeedodah" finale can get more than a few riders wetter than the rest of the ride.

All-in-all. Splash Mtn. is not really designed to DRENCH guests... its much more of a TEASE than...

Kali River Rapids.

It is really a "standard" theme-park ride found in countless parks around the world. These rides are designed to absolutely DELUGE most riders (at various points) with torrents of pumped-in water.
Its much more of a WATER-RUSSIAN-ROULETTE as you will find that some riders will get very wet, while others are thoroughly SOPPY WET!

Less of a "tease-and-show" than Splash Mountain, Kali is more of a sure-thing WATER-DRENCHER with a bit of themeing.
(Yes, some folks do get through a trip without TOO much water... but they are a small minority.)

I have three pairs of athletic shoes, a pair of Birkenstock sandals, and a pair of Teva flip flops that will be joining me on this trip. :teeth: MY feet might get wet but it won't matter!

DS has four pairs of athletic shoes and Teva sandals.

DH has ONE pair of athletic shoes that we paid $100 for. They are relatively new but he wore them last weekend to a 5K walk and said they are great. He has at least three other pairs but he either doesn't like them (don't know why he bought shoes he doesn't like :confused3 ) or they make his feet hurt. When we went in Januaury he wore Doc Martens and was perfectly happy but those will look stupid with his shorts. The lesson here is that he should have been planning ahead. I guess he could bring an old pair and put them on just before he goes on something watery. I asked him repeatedly if he wanted sport sandals and he said no.

I agree with all of this. It's why we've only done Kali once because I'm one of the unlucky ones that ends up totally drenched from head to toe and I'm not one of those that can handle that well afterwards. LOL So now we'll only do Kali again if I'm in the mood to take a shower while dressed and then leave the park that way (ie: probably never going to happen again LOL).

Splash Mountain I'll do- I rarely get wet. How wet the shoes get really depends on how much water is inside the log and if you can keep your feet up if it IS filled with water down there. I tend to get more wet from the sprayer thing coming out from the right side towards the beginning of the ride than the actual big splash. You can wear a poncho and not get a bit wet on Splash- the poncho won't help you a bit (IMO) on kali. LOL

I always wear Teva sandals when I go to Animal Kingdom, because I know
that I won't have shoe issues if I ride Kali River Rapids. :)

Splash Mountain I don't worry about. I get a little wet, but not drenched
like I do at Kali. IMHO, the seat I prefer to get the least wet is the back
left seat.

Here's what we do.

We head to Kali armed with disposable ponchos (they run like 80 cents at Wal Mart) and an XXL Ziploc bag (12 gallon size) DW and I remove our "geek vests" , cameras, cell phones, etc. and load them into the giant Ziploc bag from hell. This is loaded in the center storage bin on the raft. We put on our dispoable ponchos and ride the ride, with feet on the center foot prop ring. We might get a little damp, but our feet are usually pretty dry. Afgter exiting, we dispose of the ponchos and unload our dry stuff from the bag and dispose of that, too.

I don't ride Kali often because I hate to get wet, my girls love it though. We just carry a pair of flip-flops that day in bag, when they go ride Kali they change shoes and give me their shoes/socks to carry or we stash them in the center. At least we have dry shoes after ;)

I just checked and Lands' End still has some mens' sport sandals and flipflops... could be handy to have around, regardless.

Lots of people used to remove their shoes on KRR. But they changed the rules, so now you must have footwear on to ride.

I don't think your feet get that wet on Splash Mountain, but I haven't been there in a while so I could be wrong. But I don't remember getting my feet that wet at all.

But on Kali River Rapids they get SOAKED (well, mine did unfortunatly), I recommend getting flip flops before riding that ride. I always forgot about flip flops and I went with sneakers and socks and I was very uncomfortable for the rest of the day.

Maybe you could buy a poncho?

do they dry of f the seat on the rapids ride or can your tush get wet in that way

I have a visual of my DH taking off his socks and twisting out about a cup of water out of each sock following Kali River Rapids. :umbrella:

No, no seat drying except with your shorts. :rotfl:

If you want to stay dry, sit across from me. I have yet to ride the Kali Rapids without getting 100% (including unmentionables) totally wet. DH and DS usually stay pretty dry and just laugh at me. Last year, we had a warm day, no lines and rode it 4 times in a row. I figured since I was already soaked, just keep riding it.

We've planned it for our split day, AKL in the morning, back to WL for a pool afternoon, and DTD at night.
