~How TWO trips became...who knows? ~ It's a TRIP! and an upgrade.... 4/22

Have you tried bodyglide for the areas prone to blisters? I see it here on the boards all the time for people doing a lot of walking at the parks and such. Just an idea! And good job on the walking! I am still using the melted snow here as an excuse for me :lmao:

I just got to see the pics of your arm. I hope it is getting better. I really think you will be fine at the 1/2. Try letting your blisters heal a bit. Are you getting them in the same spots. Or all over still. If it is the same spots, then you can put large bandaids on before you walk to see if that helps them to not return.

About your tree....at our old house we had a huge beautiful pecan tree in our front yard. I loved it. It fell during Katrina (as did all of the trees in our yard except one very small one. I was in New York when DH sent me a pic of it. I cried. I loved that tree. Now let's remember that my neighborhood was completely messed up as was my town and my house had damage, my work had damage, places I loved were completely wiped out, but the tree.....I cried. and when I finally came home and there was nothing but a big hole where it once stood.....I cried again. ::yes::Completely understand.

There will be stories to match no others, I assure you!! We are already cooking up some very fun ideas for your belly laughing enjoyment! ;)

No getting discouraged, though I completely understand. You should probably try to let the blisters heal, but I'm not a distance kind of girl, even when I walked consistantly, it was a 2.5 mile loop..and running?? only if something carnivorous is chasing me! I admire you so much for taking on the half, hon! As long as you do the best that YOU can, that's what counts. Not comparing your best to anyone else's, as hard as that can be. No feeling crummy..look at the big picture!

 Don't be so hard on yourself. Maybe give your blisters a few days to heal and see what happens? Whatever you do in the princess half and however long it takes will still be great!

Thank you. :)

I am excited about the half! Unfortuantely, they don't give us more than 16 min miles to finish - which technically means I should be finished in 3.5 hours - but I am not quite there yet. Still running closer to 4 hours to finish.

lol

Well, would you believe it has snowed 3 times here this year and they are talking about it AGAIN?? I don't ever remember a year when they talked about snow so much! :confused3

I do use the body glide - I actually have a blister blocker I use for my feet. These blisters came from using the wrong socks - and they are just being pesky and not healing.

Of course, it would help if I would STAY OFF of them! Instead I went to an AWESOME worship service at my church tonight and stood on them for over an hour. Whoops. :rotfl2: It was worth it!

My neighbor and I were JUST talking about this. About how sad we were that that tree is gone...and how unbelievably sad we would be if our condo was gone...

I just simply can not imagine coming home to NOTHING after Katrina. I know you did not have as much damage...but those people we met down there - that left for a day or so for the storm to pass and came home to nothing. One family found one spoon. One. Spoon. So very sad. And I am sad for one little tree.

The birds are all flying around, though...we don't have many trees back there. Sad.

The blisters really are not coming in the same spots. It seems like once I get a blister somewhere, it basically is "covered"...it callouses or something...but I keep coming up with new places to get one. Right now one between my toes is throbbing! URG!

But the service tonight at church - it was for women only - was so awesome - and I just could not sit down for it all! Oh well.

I am taking off tomorrow and Monday (helping Lauren) from walking - so hopefully by Tuesday I will have better news.

There will be stories to match no others, I assure you!! We are already cooking up some very fun ideas for your belly laughing enjoyment! ;)

Uh oh. I am terrified.

2.5 miles...now that is more my distance! Honestly.

I will be doing the very best I can. I am trying to make up with brain power what I lack in strength and think my way through this race. For example, I have been downloading songs with my walking beat so that I can listen to them. I figured out on Friday what my best "beat" is and am trying to find songs that are close to that beat so that I can run a bunch of songs if I need to keep pace. :)

Thank you so much for the pep talk!!

Thank you all for your kind words! I just love the DIS!!! :)

I was able to swim a mile today - which took me a while (almost 45 minutes) - and swimming is hard work, so I was quite happy with that as a work out - and it didn't bother my blisters!

Tomorrow is church, which I will be mostly sitting and then hanging out with Rachel. Then Monday is helping Lauren (after work). So no walking till Tuesday at the earliest. So, we will see!

Lisa and I were talking today and sort of think we will probably do as well as we will do at this point..."cramming" for the race is probably not going to work well in the long run...and she is probably right.

So, I am trying to calm down some and just go with the flow.

Swimming is an awesome workout, and very blister (and body) friendly! I hope you really are able to relax some, you need it, esp with all the work stuff and pneumonia recovery!

I actually felt pretty good yesterday and today!

I just finished soaking my feet in Epsom salt and dressing my blisters. They actually do look better! I can't say enough for the Bandaid Blister Ampoules. They are expensive and I bought 6 boxes. They are AWESOME!

Taking another day off walking tomorrow and will see where I am on Tuesday.

TWO weeks from TODAY! I will be done. One way or another!

Ouch! Glad your arm isn't broken!

Blisters are such a nuisance but can be so painful!

Glad you're still getting some sort of training in...

Mike says swimming is a hugely great thing to do at this point! YOu can give those tootsies a rest AND get som good cardio in. Lisa's right, you're going to do as well as you can by now.

Glad to hear your feet are getting better!! 2 weeks away!!! :cool1::cool1:

I know you are going to do great! :hippie:

You still gonna be in DHS Sunday afternoon?

You know - two weeks before a trip you are supposed to be obsessing and stressing about crowd levels, touring plans, weather, etc. and not all of this exercise nonsense. Where are your priorities girl??? :lmao::rotfl:

She told me yesterday she was still planning to meet you. I think it'll happen! ;) Color me jealous!

:lmao: I hope her feet don't prevent ANY park touring!

I think this is a very good idea. I know that they strongly discourage participants from using ipods and headsets, but I think one reason I was slower and my pace kept messing up was because I didn't have my music. Next year I am taking it and I will just put the headset around my neck. I will have it turned up loud enough that I can hear it yet not so loud that it will bother anyone. I do this when I walk my dog and it works out quite well.

A lot of people used them during the 1/2 and no one asked anyone to take them off that I could tell.

Two weeks!!!! I am so excited for you all.

Glad your feet are starting to feel better. Oh, you had mentioned back a bit about hydrating. Try adjusting just a bit how/when you drink. There are water stops about evey mile, (never more) so that is how I trained myself to drink. But I only took sips and never drank the full cup. I would carry it with me a ways (and felt real bad about throwing it on the ground) and just do sips for a few minutes. I never stopped the entire race. But I think you said you need a bit more than that. Just try moderating how much you drink when you do drink and you may not have to stop.

If you do need to stop, try to make it for either the TTC, there will be on one your right after you do the little down and up in the MK parking lot right before you get to the monorail or in the MK. The one available to us was in Tommorrowland on the left behind Stich. We had heard that the one in Adventureland would be closed and it was. Not sure how Sandy found that out. Otherwise, it will be a porta potty and I heard those were gross.

Thanks! :)

They have been a huge nuisance! But a good update is coming up!

The things I have done this past week - the mind game, I think, is REALLY helping! Can't wait to update you guys!

And swimming may have helped me, too?!

Glad to hear your feet are getting better!! 2 weeks away!!! :cool1::cool1:

I am still going to be in DHS Sunday afternoon!

I am going to send you all of my contact info shortly. :)

Woohoo for healthy feet! 10 more days!! party::

I am SOOOOO excited!

I am going for TEN miles this weekend. I think I am going to shoot for Friday morning. :)

You know - two weeks before a trip you are supposed to be obsessing and stressing about crowd levels, touring plans, weather, etc. and not all of this exercise nonsense. Where are your priorities girl??? :lmao::rotfl:

Ha!

I have done my share about obsessing about that...I will try to do a trip update soon!

She told me yesterday she was still planning to meet you. I think it'll happen! ;) Color me jealous!

Yeah...I have to admit...I was WORRIED about this the other day...considering dropping the race so I could enjoy the TRIP - but things are better!!

Thank you so much for your input! It means so much from an old pro!

On the music - what I did helped a BUNCH on my time! I found quite a bit of music that was all similar beats per minute (and some of it was great worship music, which is motivating all by itself!) - and it helped a bunch!

My plan for water is to carry my own small water bottle. I will fill it up before I head out and shoot for being hydrated, but not over hydrated. I will nurse the water as I wait to go and probably start off with a bottle that is not all the way full, but then I will just fill it up at water stops...let them just pour a cup into my water bottle...and then just have the small bottle with me. It is a cool bottle that I can hold about 4 different ways and has a pouch for fuel gels.

I plan to use my own fuel and not try anything new from Disney on race day.

I am definitely shooting for as few steps as possible. I am practicing my drinking and such so that I am ready for that part...I just sometimes gotta go, ya know!

But...after today....I feel MUCH better..............

I feel MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better today about the half marathon!

I went back to the shoe store today and have a new angel named John that fit me in new pair of shoes. I was STUNNED that they took back my "old" shoes - that I have been wearing outside for over a month - and replaced them with my new shoes. Even buying 3 pair of great socks, they still owed me $12 back. I was SHOCKED. They said it was an error on their part in fitting me and that they would take them back. :thumbsup2

Even with my blisters still healing (they are there, but covered by Bandaid Ampoules) I was able to walk 1.5 miles today.............

at a new personal record pace.............

of

15:43!!!!!!!! :yay::woohoo::cool1::dance3:

This is HUGE! A huge improvement! I knocked OVER a minute off my pace and am pretty well under the 16 min mile pace - for the first time EVER!

And I am usually slower toward the beginning of my walk - so I figure I can get even faster as I add miles! :cheer2:

This gives me the cushion I need in case I do need to stop. :rolleyes1

Before when I was pushing 17 min miles - I was just doing the math and not coming up with any way I could beat the sweeper buses! But now...

I think I can do it!!!! :thumbsup2

And honestly....Today was the first time I REALLY thought that!

I can do it!!

Maroo..I was so excited to see this post..I know you can do it..and I am SO glad you got new shoes!!!! I can't wait to hear all about it.. NEXT SUNDAY!!! party:

:banana::woohoo::yay::banana::woohoo::yay:

That's HUGE!! I knew you could do it!!!

I so can't wait to hear how you and Lisa do!!!
