thanks to all who helped, when I forwarded to "spoof" they did reply within an hour -- it was a real survey. Unfortunately I did not qualify for the in-depth survey which paid $50! (it asked 3 preliminary questions about my paypal use.)

Thanks again for your help.

--------------------

i got an email from "keynote systems" saying they did surveys on behalf of ebay. The first paragraph:

In a continuing effort to provide our users the best possible online trading experience, eBay and PayPal, an eBay company, randomly selects registered users like you to participate in site evaluations. Member feedback helps us better understand the types of services and features that enhance the Community's use of eBay and PayPal

It has an link at the bottom of the page. How do I verify it's legit. It says the survey takes almost an hour. (I'm inclined to think it's one of those bogus emails, but I'd love to be wrong.)

thanks for any insight you can offer.

Report Spoof Email by Forwarding It to spoof@ebay.com If it is not from them (99% chance it isn't) they will tell you via response.

Do not click on the link they have on the message.

I don't know about your particular e-mail, but Keynote is a legit survey site. They used to be Vividence and usually pay in 10.00 Amazon gift certs.
You could try to contact them.

Also, if they survey doesn't ask for your password, etc, but instead just your opinion, it doesn't seem as if there would be a problem.

Frequently, I will get their surveys and am asked to surf a website, given specific things to try to find and then have to answer questions about those tasks.

BTW, when you do a Keynote survey like this, you are always asked to download their specific browser, so you know it's a real survey. I've never had to do one of their surveys without it.

That might help you determine the veracity of your e-mail.

If it's sent with eBay's blessings, I would think you would see it in your myebay page.

If it is real from eBay or PayPal it will address you by name and not by e-mail address or User ID.

Another thing--did the e-mail come from E-Bay, Paypal or Keynote? If it says from e-bay/paypal, I'd be suspicious. Not so much if it's an e-mail from Keynote about e-bay/paypal.

I got one that almost caught me today. Until I noticed they didn't use my name. Then I looked at the "details" and sure enough, not from eBay. Because I was on my way to silver power seller, I really thought it was real..although I thought..what a poor letter LOL. There are places to click, that don' tshow up here..so it's not as bad a structure as it looks here:

I feel better now that I find out that Ebay does actually check out each email. A couple years ago, someone "broke into" my Ebay account and was selling a laptop computer (I only buy -- not a seller). I am now very leery of those Ebay messages that say my account is going to be disabled if they don't hear from me -- I figure they are spoofs, but since I have had problems in the past, I wonder if it just might be real. So, I do as they suggested and email them to "spoof". I always get the same email reply about emails that aren't from Ebay. I'm almost beginning to wonder if they actually look at them or if they just send me the email! I get a reply very quickly sometimes. It's good to know that someone got something back from that department that said it was an actual email. :)
