How to? Using codes on booked vaca's

We booked and paid for in full our Nov 2006 vacation back in December of 2005. Now that they are possibly announcing a public code for this time, obviously we'd like to save some money, and actually apply it toward an upgrade (we're at Pop for 9 days w/ Dining now, we'd like to stay at a mod for the full 9 days but would have had to take a shorter trip, something we had not wanted to do). Can we do this, or are we out of luck as we've already paid the trip in full? If we CAN do it, what is the process exactly? Do we have to call and cancel one reservation to make another, and if yes, do we have to wait for a full refund to be processed first, or can we do it all in one transaction?

Last year I was in the same boat. I called CRO and asked to have the code applied to my existing package. I was given the chance to upgrade for a small fee or take the refund. We took the refund and it was applied back to our credit card (but it took more than 2 months to show up!) We did not get a new ressie number nor did it affect our ADR's.

Good luck!!!!

Excellent, thank you! Was it the standard reservation change fee or had they increased it to compensate for the code at all, do you happen to remember?

I think it was $50 or so (might have been more since we were less thatn 30 days from arrival) But if you are upgrading I do not believe they we were going to charge the fee at all (But I don't remember anymore  )

Why couldn't they just apply this to your existing pkg? I mean instead of refunding your money/then rebooking (seems like a pain) to upgrade or whatever you chose couldn't they just make changes applying the credit to your account or was it because the balance was paid in full?

That's why I asked, I didn't know if they would go the long route - nothing has taken place yet. There's been a couple of hotels we've stayed at over the years where they made people cancel one reservation and make a new one to use any sort of discount if it was already paid for, probably to try to save themselves from losing money since places offer discounts when they don't have enough reservations already and want to increase the profit for that time, not out of the goodness of their heart, lol. Though of course they always would give some "our computers just can't apply discounts to paid rooms" line. but YAY, if they give a public code this should be easy.

I know you know this but I would not cancel a existing reservation until I was sure that there was a room on hold for me where I wanted to go. I have had rooms leave while I was on the phone and this past June it happened to a friend of mine at one hotel he wanted badly. It was there one minute and gone the next. I had found it online too and then it left. He had to book a more expensive hotel and it almost left while he was making up his mind. The call lasted 71 minutes, it was their first trip. I finally said, book the room and ask questions later.

*nods* yep, I'm doing all my research now so that I know what hotels I want in order of priority before i give up Pop, which I had to fight tooth and nail to get. :rotfl:
