how to tell your parent they no longer drive safely

We've been telling my FIL for years and it falls on deaf ears.

Nowadays, no one drives with him. If we have to go somewhere with him, we will all pile in his car, and my DH will drive him in his car.

Today, he came over, and my DH offered to come get him (he lives 10 minutes away), and he said no!

He has had his share of minor accidents, like fender benders, hitting the fender on a tree, scraping the side, etc. We point them out to him, and he doesn't "see" the scratches or the broken tailight.

Fortunately, he's in a big huge air bag laden car if anything happens. He refuses to stop driving, and there is nothing all 12 of us can do about it!

I hope one of you finally just takes his keys if you know he is an unsafe driver.

That 'huge airbag laden' car doesn't protect innocent people in other cars or pedestrians should he happen to make a mistake that ends up being more serious than a fender bender.
