How to make $3600 on your disney vacation! WE DID!! NEW 9/3*The Epilogue, DONE* p. 54

Darling People! I did finish this trippie on the plane down, but did not log on once during our fabulous trip cuz, well, we were otherwise preoccupied! It is on the laptop waiting for a quick edit, only problem is that DJ has the laptop. So if he emails me the text, I will post some concluding chaps this afternoon. :yay:

I have been remiss. I knew you had posted more installments before you left, but somehow never made it over here til tonight. Anyway, wonderful, wonderful. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures. The kids are beautiful, you look lovely (love the hat), and HOW did I not KNOW how absolutely hot DJ is?????? He is a cutie of the highest magnitude! And you can tell him I said so!

And, of course, I can't NOT mention AK, and EE. You are my EE buddy. I will always think of you, forever, when I ride it. AND, btw, btw, btw (!) the FIRST time I ride it, you will be holding my hand while I scream! LUCKY ME!!!!! I can't wait, baby!

Thanks for working so hard to finish this up. I will not pressure you on this trip just ended. I know you will be busy with the kids starting school, and your work, and, of course, getting ready for your NEXT trip in 30 DAYS!!!! But if you are so inclined, we would really love to get all the scoop from this most recent fabu trip, too. Your musings are a true joy. To all of us. (Yes, I feel comfortable speaking for the masses.)

Ashclan, you my friend are beyond sweet. Thanks sister from Beantown and fellow mother.

Kimmar- great to see you again and I will mosey on over to read your tale.

UtahMama- You can call me a hoser. I never knew what it meant.... :teeth:

Grammyof2-You the original spice girl, and faithful friend, thanks for dropping in.

sbpuckett- patience is a virture, thank you sincerely.... :thumbsup2

mickeyzzzzz05-gosh, thanks for the compliment.

bab31-thanks for the pm, good luck!

happyhaunt-I looked again, this time with the kids. Show yourself ghostie....Thanks for the sweetness about my beautiful kids, which I had nothing to do with so I can say it! Chin up, looks like there were rough seas in your neighhhhhhhhhhborhood today. Stay tough comrade, we have been through these Maelstroms before, you and I. Here. On these boards.

mara-Thanks for stopping by. Long live the king.

agoofymom-fellow foodchainphobe. I am with you on bats in general, but these fruit bats charmed me, for some reason. There is no method to my madness. None.

mmmcq- I was in the station wagon next to you at SOB! It was exotic and ever so kitsch! I loved it then. Haven't had to drive to the sunshine state since college....phew!

Haleyb- We are borg woman, in so many ways. Who is slower finishing? You or me? Oh wait, that is a no brainer. Keep cracking and thanks for reading!

Simba-Glad you got a chuckle, girl. You gave me one too.

Dreamer and WIsher- I have to bribe Sky to wear shorts. I love her in dresses, but she doesn't have the modesty thing quite mastered and is quite the tomboy, funny how kids develop their own preferences so early.....thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Sheridac-Hello Mama! Thanks for checking in.

Pigglet74-Sorry to make you wait. I did finish, but just did not want to take the time to post while at Diz, which is when I would have had to do that, as I got the final chapters drafted on the way down....thanks for your posts, all of them.

BeccaG-I don't know how or where you hooked up, but glad you did and welcome.

Chapter 23- Day 6- Thursday, 2/16/2006- Where is it? Where is it? or The Jinx of MGM Continues

We had great momentum coming out of AK. It was late afternoon and the day had gone without a hitch. We hit all the attractions without crowds or waits. No meltdowns. Everyone was happy. We danced out of Africa to steel drums. Well, I did anyway.

We hit the pool at OKW. Grammy got her wine promptly at 4. By 6 we were getting ready to head out to MGM. My MIL had offered to watch the kids for the night, so that DJ and I could have a rare evening out alone. We did not take her up on the offer. Why? We wanted to be together, and did not feel the need to leave our kids. So off we went to extra magic hour at the Studios. We got our wristbands as we entered and headed to fantasmic. I stopped to get some snacks to tide the kids over until we got dinner after the show. We realized we forgot our camera. So no pics for this chapter.

Grammy J began pursing her lips at the mention of MGM. This is not her favorite park. It is not my favorite either, which is ironic, as I love movies and plays. I was seriously starstruck as a kid, and had spent years dreaming of making the big time. Never happened, but I do sing in the shower and the car, still, and wistfully wonder what if.....

Anyway, it isn't that I do not like MGM, it is just MK and AK are more special to me for some reason. AND we have not had the best luck at MGM when we have gone. I cannot say why, maybe the karma that hit the folks at TOT or something rubbed off on us....So I should have known by Grammy's pursed lips that going as a group here on this night was perhaps not the best idea. I ignored my instincts. Not a great move.....

First stop of the evening? Fantasmic. We loved it last time. Fantasmic has always been crowded for us unless it is raining or freezing. This night was no exception. We had arrived late and were in a standing room only section. Just as the show was to begin, a CM motioned to us and found seats for us all. Boom! It began. I sensed a weird vibe and looked over to Grammy J. Her lips were pursed again. Remember, that means she is displeased. Within a few minutes of the start of the show, she began a tirade. “Why does Disney always do this?” “Why can’t they do shows like Mr. Rogers and Arthur?” "Why did you bring them to this?" “I heard on NPR that loud volume destroys your hearing. Do you realize you are hurting the children? They might become deaf.” I kid you not. This went on throughout the entire show and afterwards. I did not respond. What could I say? That we brought the kids last time and they all passed their hearing exams wih flying colors? I just pretended not to hear, and smiled and engaged the kids, pointing to all the characters and made a point of oooing and ahhhing. Jack was a little frightened, and admittedly this extravaganza is loud and on the dark side. It is not for everyone, but it is spectacular, and not to be missed. If your child gets frightened typically at things, this will be one they do, I suspect. The mood was somewhat dampened so it wasn't quite what it might have been.

After Fantasmic, we set out to find a meal and do a few attractions. We wandered and found nothing open. You really need a ressie, which we knew, but we figured we could score something. Nope. Nothing. And many of the restaurants were closed. We asked and were sent to the Commissary, which 2 CMs said was open. Wrong. We finally ditched the meal idea, and stopped at Star Tours. The line was out the door, and clearly everyone was at the few attractions open during EMH. By 9:30, we caved and left for Olivia’s at OKW. Finally, we sat at an open restaurant and ordered milkshakes for the kids. I reached in my bag to get my wallet. It wasn’t there. I checked the stroller. Nope. DJ’s backpack. Not there either. Calmness was replaced by panic. Cash, MYW tickets, license, credit cards, ATM cards all in there were missing. This was especially distressing as I was staying on for a week in Florida without DJ and would need all those things for the second leg of the trip. To make matters worse, Jack had begun wailing. He was exhausted and nothing consoled him. We left Olivia’s with my MIL’s pursed lips locked in position…..

“Where is it? Where is it?” I kept muttering to myself. It was gone. Where the heck could it be? Where is it? I am absent minded and it was busy, but still I was angry at my airheadness. I went over my movements at MGM. The only thing I could come up with is it was dropped when I got our snacks before Fantasmic, or I threw it out with the snack trash bag. We called guest services who put us through to lost and found. Nothing. I was sick. I do not normally stress when I misplace my wallet, everything is replaceable, but this was not good, and would seriously affect our vacation plans. For about a half hour, Jack tantrummed, and we finally got the kids in their pajamas and in bed. Grammy J had more wine. DJ had that strained look on his face. I was so mad at my hyperactive brain and body……I remember that I had thrown away the snack bag, and had the sinking feeling that the wallet, was there, in the graveyard of some dumpster, soon to be planted forever in terra firma, at the WDW landfill.

I made one more desperate phonecall to lost and found. “Did you find a small Guatamalen wallet with Disney tickets, cash and credit cards?” , I asked. “What is your name?” I gave it. “Where are you from?” “Maine.....” “Well, Ms. H, I have it right here.” DJ and I hopped on a bus and headed back to MGM. The park was closed, but we were greeted by a fabulous CM who said, "Horsegirl (ok, this is not completely accurate as he used my real name, but I will not) Follow me.” Clearly he recognized me from my license. I was beyond grateful. Apparently this scatterbrain dropped the wallet on the bus to or from MGM without noticing. Some good Samaritan found it, and the driver brought it to the lost and found at MGM. I didn’t care that we had a crappy night. The kids and I would be able to spend the week at the beach as planned, and we were good to go…..

Our last night at Diz had not been what I had hoped. But who am I to complain? We got the wallet back intact. But MGM had not been a success again for us. This would be our last theme park day so we would have to wait until the next trip, to try to break the curse of MGM....

This is seriously funny, because I have seen her picture and I can imagine the lips :rotfl:

Please tell me the kids did get the milkshakes, right?

I swear I have not be drinking myself, but I am laughing like a mad woman at the thought of a CM saying "Hey, Horsegirl"

For SOME reason, maybe because I am craving Nachos, this is hysterical to me at this moment.

I KNOW that panic!!! TOO WELL! my wallet was left in a Walmart shopping cart (DUH!!!) and returned to Customer Service full of cash and credit cards and baby pictures, etc. I felt SO overjoyed that some nice person returned it!
Your last night scenerio could have been the start of something ugly!
But there is GOOD honest people these days!

Grammy J is frustrating me! Madame Pursed Lips! How did you stay so calm with her?? Your little ones act out if their sleepy and "done" but Grammy J needs the Serenity Prayer.

~Grammyof2~ I love to read your posts! You seem like a sweetheart. Can tell you and Horsie are friends!

I am so glad you found your wallet! I have had my purse stolen. . . twice (no I am not careless just in the worng place at the wrong time). It is very scarry when your wallet is missing and very stressful!!!

...well, EE DOES totally ROCK...I had heard a lot of conflicting reports on the DIS, saying that there was too much hype about it....nuh-UHHH - once again, Disney DELIVERS!

Thanx for sharing your stories. It is your "humanness" (I know-not a word, but it works for me) that draws us to your tale. While we'd all love to have the perfect magical dream trip, we know that in reality we spend hours planning a vacation that can at times be...well, "unmagical." The magic is in your spirit, which - even when challenged by scornful grannies, burnt out kiddos, lost wallets et al - just comes out smilin'. A real person like yourself knows that when Tink's not around, ya gotta make your own pixiedust:

BTW, I know the fashion cops would love to jail me for wearing my fanny pack in the parks. But it's the only thing I've found that I can keep my important stuff handy and secure. Everything is right there on my belly and I would see right away if I had not tucked it in and zipped it up safe & sound.

Hope you're making more of your dreams come true.

Grammy! I was crackin' up to at the pursed lips, too! Inside. So as not to be detected, as that would make me a disrespectful DIL, which I try not to be. However, I have been known to speak my mind, which might make me appear to be disrespectful.....

And humor is how I deal with it all, Utahmama! (ususally, I have my moments...ask my family and friends) I giggle to myself inside, because I know the sign. And Grammy J is a wonderful grandmother, we are just very different people. She was raised by her stern Germanic father alone with her 5 sibs after her mother died when she was 6. I was raised by a wacky Scandanavian father and live for the moment chilled out mom, both of whom have tremendous joie de vivre. So I understand her. Plus I know I am no picnic either. I have tons of energy and can be an inpatient child, always trying to pack it all in....I am sure I drive her crazy too.

BeccaG- It really was stressful as I was staying on with the kids without DJ and needed my license and credit cards for the car rental et al....

Mousebit-Your little tidbit was so so nice. Thank you for that.

You too, Kimmar!

Okay working on fixing the last installments right now....Hope you all are having a great day. :yay:

Chapter 24-Day 7-Friday, 2/17/2006- Which way to the beach?

Blizzard Beach that is…..We packed, sent Grammy J on a Magical Express bus, checked out of the digs at OKW and headed over to the snowcapped water park. It was the Friday before President’s day weekend. We anticipated crowds but did not make it to the extra magic hour. This place was great fun, even if it was only about 68 degrees that day. Don’t rent a locker in the morning. Go skinny and bring nada with you….it takes forever on both ends of the day, unless the park is empty, which I think only happens when it is freezing….

We got in line to go up the chair lift. We decided to do the family raft ride. Not a good place to start with little Jack. He hated it. We really were semi-insensitive to the age of this little guy, I think in retrospect. He was cold and a little freaked out. First water park. So when we got off, we headed to the tike area. All three were happy to dig in the sand, splash in the pools and go down the little tube ride. Jack maybe went 30 times and grinned proudly. You have to keep an eye on the wee ones here, as they move quickly and can easily get sucked up by the crowds and moved to another area. I watched him as he proudly struggled to carry his tube back up and all the sudden he stopped and dropped trow. You all know what that is now, right? Yup Jack dropped his drawers to weewee right there in front of gabazillon parents. I saw the look on one mother. She was looking around and thinking, I am certain, ‘where is the parent of this uncouth urchin?’ I tried running there quickly but I was quite a distance. He began walking with his tube back up. Only problem was he was taking very small steps as he had failed to bring the britches back up after the deed. Now I have to tell you. We live in the country and the menfolk up here, do occasionally use a tree or a bush in the fields, when nature calls. Jack is a very fastidious little boy and for a long time refused to use anything but proper indoor plumbing. However, a few males, namely his zany uncle, I am sure, have become role models of what to do when you gotta go. Outside. Thanks, unc. So itsy bitsy Stitch made his way up the ramp to the top slowly as I caught up to him and rectified his trunks, as in, hauled ‘em up where they were supposed to be…..Unfortunately, we locked the camera away for the day, so no pic, and of course I couldn’t post that here. But I would have loved the shot to show his girlfriend when he is 16…..

Can I recommend something? If you haven’t been to a water park, get on the lazy river and see it that way. Get off when something grabs your fancy. It seems easier than using those maps or even the descriptions. Sky and I went on the LAAAAAAAAAAAAAZY river alone, as the boys decided to do the next step up on the water slides. My daring pixie loved all the big slides and was very upset when she didn’t meet the height restriction on one or two. It was chilly, but beats ice fishing in Maine for President’s week. So check out the water parks if you get the premium ticket. I do have to say one thing. Some folks should stick to one piece bathing suits and trunks. Just sayin’. We closed the park. It was 5:30.

We drove to the Boardwalk and Beach Club to grab a snack and walk around before heading to the Beach for the week.

Can you guess where this shot was taken? I bet many of you can.
bwkids.jpg

We just hung and and took in the sights as the sun set. Here are our last 2 shots of the trip.

bwfinal.jpg

Yep, Orange. My kids picked the color out. I really did not care. Hideous is what many people call them, but I think they are fun, comfy and great walking shoes. So there!

bwcrocs.jpg

A certain popular trip report writer talks about disneyfeude, that certain distressing phenomena as the sinking feeling of leaving Disney sets in during the trip. For some it starts the minute they arrive. For others, it is the last morning. I have the cure for this. Plan a trip somewhere for another day or two or week, and you have that to look forward to. This is what we did. We also talked about when we would next come back to Orlando. So we had no sadness or woes on the last day at Blizzard Beach and the Boardwalk. Just fun and happy times. Savor every moment, don’t waste the time feeling woeful and glum. That is my thought for the day.

bwsleepykids.jpg

Here are the kids, passed out by a week of rollicking grand times. This is the first time in their lives all three fell asleep in the car, I kid you not. We got to the beach a hair before midnight. Guess what? We somehow had lost the keys to the condo. Had the directions and all. But not the keys. We blamed the sleeping Stitch as he has a fascination with keys. But in truth I am certain I dropped them somewhere. Are you surprised I am such a spaceshot? Well, I am. My brain sometimes works too quickly and misses stuff. It is yet another flaw…. Called the emergency number and got in rather than sleeping in the car. It is always something when you are a scatterbrain like me, even when I try to be organized….but we don’t mind. It is all a part of travel.

We had an awesome weekend at the Beach all together and drove DJ back to Orlando Sunday so he could fly home and back to work. The three kids and I had an amazing rest of the week in sunny Florida.

The other $1,600? Stay here for just a few more lines and I will finish this tale for you. On Friday, 2/24, exactly one week after we left Disney, the kids and I hit the tarmack in Atlanta after departing Orlando in the afternoon.

bwairplane.jpg

Our flight to Maine was to depart at 5:35. Atlanta was packed. It was after all the end of President’s week, a decidedly busy travel time for lots of Northeasterners, at least. We sat playing Uno. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw some distressed folks at the check in counter. They did not speak much English, but were very, very upset. Moments later, I heard it. The announcement. “We need 4 volunteers to take the first flight out in the morning. We will provide each passenger with 3 meal vouchers, first class accommodations and $400 each in airfare vouchers. I looked at the kids, thought for about 10 seconds, and made my way to the counter to give up those coveted seats….
