My son would love to have apple slices in his lunch as he is missing several front teeth he cannot take a bite...I have tried several things and I cannot seem to find anything that keeps them from turning brown. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dip apple (or banana or pears etc) into some water that has RealLemon (you know the bottled sort) in it.
I don't do measurements but, say, for one apple, perhaps 6-8 oz of water with perhaps a tablespoon of reconstituted lemon.
I don't use the true lemons for this unless I'm making something special. The RealLemon ends up cheaper to use, at least here.
Doesn't really alter the taste too much

I use Fruit Fresh. It is in a small can, usually with canning supplies. You may need to ask at the store to find it. It doesn't have the taste like lemon juice does. It is a powder that you can either sprinkle on or dissolve in water. A little big goes a long way. I prefer to dissolve it in a some water and just drop the apples in.

You could also use orange juice.

I also have used lemon juice in the past.

Nowadays I just buy them in the bag at the store already sliced ready to go for I beleive 1.99. I have become quite lazy in my old age and am greatly appreciative of the people who come up with some of these pre-packaged ideas!

I've used pineapple juice before and it tastes better than lemon juice.

You can use any kind of citric acide. I don't like lemon juice on my apples and used to pour some orange juice on them.

I had a friend who used the salt, it works but I find it distasteful.

I use anything with citric acid (vitamin C) that is in the house (lemon, lime, pineapple, grapefruit soda, sprite or 7-up) - we do several apples at a time and then put them into baggies.

I slice the apples, dip in the juice then lay out on a paper towel, blot dry and bag.

The already done ones at the store are IMO expensive and have a chemical taste that I don't care for.

I agree. They're expensive here, about $4.00 for a small bag at Publix. I, too, don't care for that odd taste.

I'm going to give Fruit Fresh a try.

This is what I do now too. And now they make a package of 5 snack size bags too. Costs a little more but worth it to me!

I have used Vodka in the past. What you do is, fill a glass full of vodka. Then take an apple, and juice the apple. Place some of the juice in the glass full of vodka. Then, drink the vodka. Sorta like an Appletini, but with Vodka.

I forget what the original question was. Anyway, off to get another apple.

You have not only answered the question of the day but this IMO is the solution on how to deal with life in general :worship:

When DS was teething my Dad started to give us the rub his gums with whiskey advice, but his advice differed slightly from the norm. Pour a decent size shot of Whiskey, dip your finger in and rub it on the babies gums, then you drink the remainder of the shot, repeat as often as needed until numb. Not bad advice;)

I slice and core my apple, put in in a baggie, and toss it with a bit of splenda and cinnamon.

I use salt water. I put some water in the sink or a bowl, add some salt, you don't need a lot, cut the apples and put them in the water for a while. We did this when I was coaching basketball and had weekend tournaments. The apples would keep over a weekend. We put them in a ziplock bag with a little bit of the salt water and they were fine. Since you don't need a lot of salt you don't taste it. You could put some apple slices in one of those 'disposable' containers, add some salt water and pack it in his lunch bag.
