Hello all,

Disney veteran here, in the process of taking the DVC plunge.
My wife and I have been to a few DVC presentations, and have been mulling it over for a number of years now. I am currently in the process of purchasing a DVC contract as a Christmas surprise for her.

I was waiting for the perfect contract to pop up, and finally found it. My offer has been accepted and I am awaiting the contract now. Obviously things will not be completely buttoned up, or even 100% guaranteed, by Christmas. That being said, the offer was $85pp for 100 points (SSR), so I don't expect it to have any issues with ROFR. And if it does, I will simply purchase another contract for her immediately after.

Anyone have a creative idea for giving such an intangible gift? She is going to be very excited to be a member, but I want to think of something more thrilling than a contract with a bow on it!
I am thinking a mini-scavenger hunt (any clue you have used for Disney-related scavenger hunts would be great!), maybe involving the DVC tote bag we got from our last presentation, or our Monorail train set. Some Disney pins or a Disney Christmas ornament could also be used.

Do you have a trip planned? When I bought our first contracts, I gave my wife the magic bands as a present. She knew we were going on a trip already, but I had added the DVC member sliders to the bands. That was the surprise. It looks like you can buy the sliders on eBay.

Great idea! I didn't realize they had DVC sliders. I don't have a trip planned quite yet, but I do have our bands from last trip, so this could still work.

How fun!! You could just do a number of Disney related gifts leading up to letting her know that she has become a member. You could get a book on Disney world -- I love the Jim Korkis books - secrets on Disney world. A Disney ornament. Maybe find a SSR pin on ebay. the Disney store online has a small selection of member items. I think you can find some DVC member items on ebay too - magnets etc. Then a final gift could just be a simple picture of SSR framed with a little note from you telling her that she will be a member soon

I couldn't tell from your post but are you planning to spring the surprise in time to have her sign the paperwork? If you are the lone buyer, then the deed will be in your name only and your wife will not be a member and won't get a member ID. At best you could make her an Associate on your membership if she isn't on the deed but it would be better if she is co-owner, in which case she will need to sign the purchase paperwork.

Great point. I hadn't thought about that aspect at all, but I definitely need to!

I like the idea of the picture of SSR, maybe with a tag attached that says "Welcome Home". The Larry Dotson ones (available online, usually) are beautiful and frame really nicely! My DH has the pictures of our home resorts in his office.

Definitely get the contract changed to be in both of your names so she is a member as well.

You could gift wrap a photo of the resort you are buying. And put it under the tree.

Given that your offer was accepted, your initial paperwork will be coming soon and will require her signature if you want her to be a full DVC Member rather than an Associate. How about taking the purchase document, rolling it up and tying a ribbon around it, put it in a box, wrap the box and present it to her as an early Christmas gift.

If you wait until Christmas to present her with the document to sign, you introduce a nearly 2-week delay in getting the contract back to the broker, delaying its submission to Disney for their ROFR. The other issue is that by waiting until after Christmas to return your signed documents, you would be returning your signed contract in the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve and your contract might not get submitted to Disney for ROFR until after the first of the year.

I know this is late but maybe an ornament on the tree and you can put it on Christmas morning when she isnt in the room. Maybe write on it Saratoga Springs Resort Owner - 100 Points, January 2017. This way you have it forever.

Congratulations!

I would try to find a nice photo online of your home resort, download it and use Paint or another photo program to write WELCOME HOME! on it...then print the photo, put it in a frame and wrap it to put under the tree.
