How to get rid of inground pool?

We bought a house with an inground pool. We replaced the liner the year we moved in. ($$$$) For two years it was somewhat enjoyable, tho not according to my DH who was the one who vacuumed and bought the chemicals etc. The pool does not get a lot if sun. It's always cold and we don't want an additional expense of a heater. There are many trees around and it gets filled with bugs and debris. You could constantly be skimming. So in other words, we are so done with the pool and would love to fill it in and enjoy the space it takes up as part of our yard. Any idea how much this would cost? What type of company would do this? Thanks for any input!!

PS the pool is about 18'x32'

I am not sure of the answer but will ask my brother for you. He worked at the Branch Brook store in NNJ and may know of a company.

I am going to see him this afternoon.

my mom had her inground pool filled in last year. It was old and was having problems they did not want to sink the money into it anymore. She found a contractor to tear up the pool and the concrete surround and fill it in. It cost quite a bit, I think over $5000. Actually I think the tearing it up was about $5000 and the fill was extra (they needed more fill than originally quoted for) so maybe the total was around $8000??? Not sure how she found this contractor; I think she got the name from the contractor that was rebuiling her house after her fire.

Heah Minnie Tink, just wanted to say that if you do get rid of the pool your taxes should go down too so that would help out your situation too (hope you and your mom are doing ok)

Knock a hole in the low end (or bust up the whole bottom out) and fill it with dirt. If you don't put a hole in the pool it will hold water when it rains. Then you will have a big mud hole in your yard. The rain water must be able to seep back into the ground.

Check with your city zoning/permitting, too. I know in my area, it's a real headache to fill it in with the permitting and endless inspections.

Hi lmp... Taxes going down is even more incentive to get rid of the pool. I didn't know that. Thanks.

We filled ours in years ago and what we did was leave the cement walk-way, fill it with gravel and put playground equipment in the middle of it.

Formally a N.J. resident so take heed to the suggestion regarding checking with code enforcement. I would put money on the fact that there IS a code and an application for a permit regarding decommissioning an in ground pool and if you do not follow it you could very well wind up having to pay more money to properly take care of the situation.

I know from experience. ;)
