How to get better at HM game?

I spent HOURS today playing the Haunted Mansion game, and I still stink at it. My arms are getting numb, lol.

So, what's the secret? Is it that people over 40 shouldn't even try? <sigh>

The good part is I made over 10,000 credits.

Now when you say you stink, how many ghosts are you catching in a round? Because over 10,000 credits from Mansion in a day is nothing to laugh at!!!

I agree Fox, that is some not bad catching, and I might say over 40 should not be a problem. Really there are a lot of ways to play and a lot of ways to improve but it depends what problems you are percieving and what goal you have. I am currently suffering because I am at a location for the month that has a bad connection - I can play but it is not easy at all. A lot of freeze going on. Three things will help your game that cost money (4 if your on a mac, right Fox) get the best connection you can, get a fast system with loads of memory and get a quality optical mouse. With that said, winning is not everything, credit is. your goal should be to catch ghosts like mad. This can be facilitated by getting some friends that are reliable to play good as well and not disconnect, and just play and have a good time. An additional point I have friends that play using the mouse, friends that play using the keys and friends that play using the touch pad. I can only use the mouse, so figure out what you are comfortable with.

Wow, 10,000 for the day is awesome! I play with the mouse my son prefers the arrows. My computer freezes up on me, or sometimes it appears that my character has a mind of it's own. So, go figure. But, I will say practice makes you better and better. Have fun. :tink: Oh, the forty thing....I'll be fifty on Monday, lol.

If I get 20 in a round, it is very good for me. Not typical unfortunately. I've just played A LOT of HM today.

I get roughly 5 ghosts a round. I hate the mansion game, beacause my mouse does not seem to want to work with it.....

One game this morning the other team beat me to the door, so should have gotten a head start. However he didn't play until I was out too, and said he only played "fair".

Noone else did that all day.

I thought you won the head start. Not sure how I feel about his attitude. :confused3

Hmmm :) Not sure what your problem might be until I actually see you play! You should drop by the lobby where some of us are bound to be hanging out and play with us :) If I'm playing with friends who are good, I can average 25-30 ghosts a round. If I'm playing with somebody who absolutely doesn't know what they're doing ... 15-20 is more like it.

Btw, many of the really good Ghost Dusters are older! Matter of fact, many of them are in their 40's! :goodvibes Lol, and despite the fact that I'm in my 20's, sometimes I feel like they're out to give me carpal tunnel! :rotfl:

P.S. Be nice to my Apple lol!!

Fox has escaped the Mac world and has joined those of us who are actually able to play games on VMK lol :).

WOW -- getting 20 in a round and getting 10,000 credits a day?! My hand would be numb too! Remember that one day I was on under my mule and I kept up there in the daily high score? My hand was very numb too!! I am never doing that again. LOL

I love mansion, but it really depends on a lot of things how well I will do in each game. I usually average between 25 to sometimes up to 45 ghosts each round...but I would need to be playing against another good player & there shouldn't be any of the stop/go freezing thing, & better if it happens to be a "green game" (I only play green). But playing this much usually makes my wrist hurt. I do type a lot during the day, and have had RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) which is why I always type now with an ace bandage on my wrist. I find that helps prevent any pain I might incur from using my mouse too much :).

I have recently discovered that I can get more credits in fireworks -- esp. now that my scores are increasing... if I am playing for credits, I would much rather play for 1,000 in one game, than 200-400 in one mansion game. But honestly...mansion is much more fun to play than fireworks :).

Best,

A Days~

I'm like A Days, I make more credits from Fireworks than Haunted Mansion.

Okay. Is there a particular lobby DISers favor? Yesterday I would switch between lobbies when there were difficult loiters around (ppl who join a game, but then don't play :rolleyes2 )

So I can blame the hardware? Excellent! Must be my laptop's fault, but I can't justify a new computer or internet connection to play vmk.

I'm using my kids' newish laptop (inspirion 6000 for those who care about such things) so I use the arrow keys to steer; got a DSL connection with a reasonably good router.

Some games had better connections than others. One game yesterday was hilarious. We'd walk in place for about 30 seconds, then everything would fast forward like crazy for a bit. Impossible to play but good comic relief for someone who was getting a bit obsessed. :rolleyes1

Sad thing is...my arm really hurts today...so I probably won't play much. Besides the kids will be home from school in the afternoon and we don't have a computer per person so I'll probably get shut out. :rotfl2:

There is no way I could play mansion with the arrow keys -- uh uh, nope! I use a mouse. But that's just me ;).

Hehe, those games are the best! Especially with friends! Last night we were playing a 4x4 game and it was one of those "moving in jam" games. I wanted to yell out: "Ok, whose computer is the turtle!" except I didn't want to add to the text slow-down mess on screen lol ... not that it would have mattered! Those games aren't good for getting credits, of course, but amusing nonetheless :)

I don't think there's a specific lobby we like... most of us are on each others friends' lists and hop around using that. If you find one Dis, you're bound to find the rest :) After all, the Dis is everywhere :rotfl:

My tips for Haunted mansion:
1) Use your mouse to steer your person. But don't click your mouse, just move it where you want to go.

2) Continually tap on the control key as you get near ghosts, it will keep "vacuuming" them up.

3) Follow around somebody of the other color. They will be getting ride of the green ghosts, and then attracting the purple ghosts. Then you can scoop up all the purple ghosts!
