How to get back to the airport for a 6:30am departure?

What are our options getting back to the airport from a good neighbor resort VERY early in the morning. Our flight leaves at 6:30, so I'm assuming we'd need to be there by at least 3:30am. There are 5 of us, so I don't know if we'd fit in a standard cab either.

cab, can, shuttle. Your hotel should be able to help you find someone to help

I would do a shuttle. You will need to be to the airport at least two hours before your flight (so 4:30), but a shuttle will probably book a pick up at least two hours before that (that's what they did with us, even though there is not that much traffic at that time!). I would contact a couple of shuttle companies - Super Shuttle, Prime Time Shuttle, etc. to see the rates and p/u times.

EDIT: This is leaving from LAX, not the closer airports....

What airport are you leaving from? That makes a difference.

I would use a taxi if you're leaving from SNA or LGB. Just have the front desk call one for you. You should be at either of the above airports about 1 1/2 - 2 hours ahead. If you can, check in online the day before and print up your boarding passes. I always use SNA and leave the hotel 2 hours prior to flight time (that's having already checked in with printed boarding pass). The advantage to the taxi is you don't have to worry about any other parties and you don't have to include the 15-minute waiting window--the desk will let you know when your taxi has arrived.

Taxis, buses and shuttles can all use the carpool lane so it doesn't take that long to get there. It's about a 20 minute trip unless you're in heavy traffic, but I don't think you'll have to worry about that at 4 AM.

When I use SuperShuttle, I reserve it ahead of time online so I can use a discount code and prepay, including tip. The online form asks for your flight time and automatically figures in the pickup time for you, but I usually put down a later time than my actual flight because I don't like getting to the airport with 2+ hours to spare since I'm already checked in.

If you're flying out of LAX, I can't give you much advice as I have no experience. I just know a taxi would be pretty expensive.

Yes, what airport? We often fly into and out of Long Beach LGB ~ we show up no more than an hour before our flight, it's such a teeny airport, very easy. However this will not work for our home airport (SLC) ~ my kids & I missed our flight to San Diego earlier this month!! No worries Southwest was very kind and we made it to San Diego just fine (after flying to Denver??) That was an awful morning though, (I was in tears - but I kept myself together once I was out of the car) leading up to missing our flight, parking problems, airport problems, long security line.....

Bummer ~ you'll probably want to get there 2 hours early, but good news you'll be on the roads before most so you won't have to deal with much traffic. I'd plan to leave at 3:30 ~ if you take a taxi, but that might cost you close to $100 (last time we flew in & out of LAX ~ hope to never again ~ our taxi each way was about $90 + tip!
