How to get around

How do you get around to different hotels for dinner without a car? Are there cabs available? I'm staying at Pop Century in June but would like to dine at a few of the restaurants at different hotels. Are there buses that go to the Boardwalk and DTD? This is my first time staying on-site.

You could take taxis, which would be the quickest way.

Or, you could use Disney transportation, but most likely you'd have to change busses at a theme park or Downtown Disney to get to your final destination. If you go this route, remember to allow LOTS of transit time.

The last time we were at the world, we were at CBR. We didn't have a car so whenever we went to another resort we hopped on the first theme park bus, got off there and reboarded to the appropriate hotel. We never had a huge delay. Only once was getting back to CBR an issue and that was after a visit to the Boardwalk. We ended up getting a cab and it was surprisingly cheap.

A little advance planning helps to. Several theme parks are walking distance to Disney Resort . At worst you could drive to the CR or Magic Kingdom and ride the monorail to the trans. center or to one of the resorts on the line

There are two ways to get from resort to resort by bus. If the theme parks are open you can take a bus to the closest park and get on the bus to the resort you want to visit. All resorts have a bus running to DTD (which answers one of your questions) so you can take that bus and switch to the bus for the other resort if it's after park hours. The buses run to DTD until 2am I think.

To get to the BW you can also walk from Epcot or MGM.

We did lots of checking out the other resorts and eating at other resorts so we got to know the transportaion system pretty well.

You can go from Park to Park but not normally from Resort to Resort. Although one night after dinner at Coronado Springs a kind bus driver took us right to Animal Kingdom Lodge! (Beautiful place BTW)!

If we wanted to go to another resort from Pop we usually went to MGM and transfered buses there as long as it was within an hour of MGM's closing. Other times we would take what ever Park bus came first and go there and transfer to the proper resort bus.

We found we could take a ferry from MGM to the Beaches and Cream and then walk off our meal by going by another ferry to the Boardwalk( or you can walk to the Boardwalk or Epcot).

Another time we took the MGM bus from POP and the Ferry to Epcot. It was a nice relaxing way to go and you end up by the International Gate to Epcot.

We found that to go to the Winderness Lodge we had to go to the TTC first. We toured there and watched the MK fireworks and then returned to the Contemporary by Ferry and then took the monorail to MK and rode a few things before closing time that night.

I guess what I am trying to say is there is no one way or right way to get anywhere! It was fun trying new ways to get places and you just never know what you will see along the way!

We always rent a car, but don't use it all that often because the bus system is so good. If we go to Downtown Disney we do drive, it's just easier and faster by car. We always like to have a way to get to a grocery store or drug store if we need to, and I usually dig to find a great price on a rental car. For us it's not ALL that much more than Mears costs.....
