i made rice last night and I totally burned it..I miss my rice cooker.

The bottom of the pot has gross black rice stuck on it. I soaked it for hours and I still won't be able to scrub it clean.

Does anyone have any home remedies that I can try? I really don't want to throw the pot out..it's my biggest one.

Please help...

Its been awhile for me but I think I put some baking soda and about cup of water , bring to boil then turn off stove let it sit. Scrub pot when cool.

I was going to suggest boiling water mixed with baking soda. You could also try mixing vinegar and baking soda (at normal room temperature, not boiling) - it will effervesce and "do the work" for you.

Put dish soap, vinegar, and some water in and boil. Just enough water. You may need a cup or two for a humongous pot. Your rice should come right off after a minute or so of boiling.

I will try a combo of these..hopefully something works.

Thank you all

I've always dumped in some dishwasher powder (Cascade) in and soaked. I own an electric pressure cooker and people rave about a scoop of Oxyclean. I tried it and it was amazing. I'm thinking for a regular pot you should have hot water.

I spray mine with oven cleaner or throw it in the self-clean oven. If it has plastic handles, remove them first.

And then wash it really well after I assume. Those are some harsh chemicals to use on a pot you will be cooking it

I tried boiling water and vinegar in it but I couldn't get the pot to boil because it started smoking and smelling like the burn smell again.

Now I've found something that said boil just a pot of water until it boils and then empty the pot and sprinkle everything with baking powder. I may try this because the vinegar and making soda aren't doing anything.

I'm starting to give up hope

Dish soap, baking soda and boiling water to soak. I have boiled water in the kettle rather than boil the pot to avoid the smell.

What kind of pot? If it's any kind of non-stick surface, then there's little you can do.

If it's stainless steel, then the only thing that's ever worked for me is a lye-based oven cleaner. Those are actually a bit hard to find these days. Most use mixtures that only clean properly when they're heated. You need to look carefully for a label that says it's dangerous and should only be used when wearing gloves.

It's not good on aluminum though. Most non-stick coatings are on top of aluminum, and even stainless often has an aluminum disk bottom for better heat transfer. The stuff needs to be washed off quickly if it contacts aluminum before it starts dissolving it.

I've never tried it but I've read (on Pinterest or Facebook so you know it's true!) to place a dryer sheet in the pot, fill with warm water & soak overnight.

Soak some hot water and soap inside. Then I have a metal brownie spatula that I use to scrape the bottom. That should get most of it, then I use steel wool.

My first thought was to throw it out.

I have no other advice other than to get yourself another rice cooker.

That's exactly what I would say. I burned the bottom of a pan years ago and after a few attempts of scrubbing it, I finally threw it out.

I have soaked a pot overnight with water and dish detergent. The next day, I scrape the bottom with an offset metal spatula. The small size makes it easy to get in the pot. Sometimes one more soak is needed after the scraping.

This works! Also, you can soak with downy, water and dish soap overnight. It also works. This is only for stainless. I've never tried it on nonstick pans.

One thing I used (this was years ago when I was an au pair), but it worked like a charm. Make a fairly concentrated solution of dishwasher POWDER (powder works best) and let it soak overnight. It worked like a miracle. Start with boiling hot water poured over the powder in the pan.
