We have decided that we want to rent points and stay at a BW studio in August. We really would like to wait until we sell our house (we just moved into a house we built) to pay for it. Does anyone know:
1. if we will be able to find enough points to rent (either 55 for a 5 night stay or 83 for a 6 night stay) and

2. what the chances of a studio at BW being availble sometime during the week of August 9-16

if we wait 2 months until we buy the points and make the reservations?

The point totals you quoted are for a standard view. There is unlikely to be a problem finding a member willing to rent points. Availability of standard view rooms will definitely be a problem, though.

It is possible, but not very likely, that there will be a standard view studio available. Most standard view rooms book up in the 11 month window (which opened last October for your 8/03 dates). Standard view studios tend to go very quickly. If there are any left right now (doubt it), they will almost certainly disappear for sure when the 7 month window opens in February. The outside rehab work at BWV, whcih isn't scheduled to complete until 9/03, will take several standard view rooms out of service. So the supply will be even more limited than usual this summer.

It is possible that you could get a standard view studio by using the waitlist. However, IMHO, most members would rather look for a renter who wants time that is all ready available - i.e., they are not anxious to risk losing their points (other opportunities to rent points) by taking a chance on the waitlist coming through.

That said, if you are willing to rent a preferred view studio (70 or 102 points), there is a better chance of availability, even if you wait a couple of months to rent points. There should not be a problem finding members with points to rent.

HTH. I know it wasn't what you were hoping to hear. Good luck and congratulations on your new home.

Thanks for the quick reply (even if it is NOT what I wanted to hear!!). Things have been so crazy for us these past 3 months, I have not had a chance to plan our vacation (I usually have things firmed up almost a year in advance). Maybe we'll have to bite the bullet and reserve now. How do I find out what is actually available right now? Can I call Disney or do I have to find out a different way if I'm going to rent points from someone?

Post all the info and a DVC member will check on availability. Also you may want to add any alternate date's or resorts as a back-up. Good luck. Rich :jester:

If you haven't already, post your request on the DVC Rent/Trade Board:

DVC Rent/Trade Forum

Be sure to read all of the "Important" posts that are at the top of the page first. They will give you more information on renting.

Good luck!

After talking to my husband, it appears we will have to wait until closer to August to do anything. He does not multi-task very well (actually, AT ALL), so since we have a house we need to get ready to get on the market to sell, he can't (won't!) talk about vacation plans. sigh....So it looks like I won't be able to do anything until probably April. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that I'll still be able to get a studio at BW at such short notice. If we can't, then we'll have to find an alternate place to stay.

Thanks, everyone, for all the info.

Pam

If you can't get a room at BWV, which is very likely because they do book up fast, try OKW. You can usually always get a room at OKW. I just made reservations yesterday for OKW (it was all that was available) at 2 months prior to the trip.
