How soon can I dye my hair again? Update!(tons of free advice in here!)

You need to heed this advice. Now or I fear an intervention. You seem to be in salon denial.

:lmao: :lmao:

Ok I have dirty blonde hair and want to go either a shade lighter or darker. Never dyed before. What can you pros tell me?

I would go to a salon for corrective coloring.

:thumbsup2

I had to do that once. I always had good luck coloring my hair at home. But one time, I tried a really bad one - I wound up looking like Ginger Spice! :scared1: I went to bed without saying goodnight to DH, hid my head under the covers, called in sick to work the next morning, put on a hat, and went to a salon to get it fixed. I leave it to the professionals now.

It's fine to re-color your hair within 24 hours. Just make sure it's fully dry from washing. If you like the tone, but it's just too dark, mix a couple tablespoons of peroxide with your shampoo, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Wash, condition and re-dry.

.

PS - I worked in a salon for years, and still use color in a box. :)

I also agree about recoloring - however, if the OP would answer me, I'll tell her exactly what to get!!! ;)

And why on EARTH would you use a box?? Youre not even getting a specific lift when you use that. :confused3

Itll be a cold day in you-know-where when I use a box. **faint**

Which one - lighter or darker?

Show me a hair color you like, and show me your hair. Ill tell you exactly what to get...

Hey! As long as there is free beauty advice being dispensed here....

My natural color is medium brown. I currently have "warmest golden brown" applied, which makes me reddish brown. I like that, but would like just a bit more red. I don't want full auburn though.

What kind of hocus pocus should I boil up to make that happen?

I see nothing wrong with using box color if you are in need of basic coverage, especially those pesky grays....:smooth:

I've done the boo boo's on the at home hair colors before. I just waited a few days and redid it and it was fine. I did a darker/warmer color to take the ugliness out of it. I will never go lighter with a box haircolor.

I have a dilemma.
The new lady I'm going to doesn't appear to be a color specialist, because my hair didn't turn out the way I wanted it to(didn't notice until I got home in different light). She is an excellent haircutter and stylist though. I LOVED my cut and my flip out style! I think I'll give her one more chance and explain exactly what I want. She was too quick this time and with my grays the stylist really needs to be detailed in getting it all covered.
The last girl that did my hair did wonderful color, but can't cut and style worth a darn.
Do I just keep looking? I'm hoping to get someone who can color and cut/style my hair to look great. Why oh why can't I find that in one package?

Ok, my venting is over.

Do they work at the same shop? If so, be honest. They really want you to be happy. Ask one to color and one to cut and style. That way you are happy and they both make a buck (oh, and are happy for you too).:thumbsup2

No, they don't work at the same shop. One works at a mall salon on the other side of town (great colorist). The one I recently went to works closer to me and just moved salons and sent me a $10 coupon for promoting this new site that 4 stylists moved to from another salon I went to. I wish they were in the same salon, because it would probably work out that way, even if it was awkward.

I really need a great colorist, because my grays are really stubborn and tons around the temples. In the spring I really want to do hi and low lights for our upcoming WDW trip in May. Do I go for a test run with a new colorist/salon before I try the highlights?
Thanks!

Sorry, I was on the phone!

Like I said, I have always been happy with Nice 'N Easy - natural medium blonde. When I go in the sun it gets a little lighter/more golden, which I love.

I used Garnier natural medium blonde, and for some reason it looks ash brown. I see green, DH thinks I'm crazy.

So, can I just re-dye with Nice 'N Easy? I have a box in the closet, and itchy fingers..............

You will sit on those fingers untill the pros here answer you ;)

*looking in the mirror* Yeah, DH agreed I should go to a salon for the next time I want to dye my hair. He thinks he didn't do a good job. :rotfl2:

I'm just glad I work from home. Those silver hairs didn't flinch at all and still shining away amongst all the now mulberry and brownish hair.

One reason I keep the blonde- ish of my youth. And, yeah, the silver/white/grey just sparkles up there, don't it?!:lmao:

OK, you are mixing too many mediums and reds and blondes and stuff. At this point I'd BEG you to PLEASE go to a salon. You need to find one and get your color corrected and get your hair shaped up (read: CUT PROFESSIONALLY).

I know you're not going to listen to me, because I know you, but this is something I know a bit about. ;)

Huh. You'd think I knew you well or something.:rolleyes1

:rotfl: Yes, yes, it does! When my hair was blonde, they were visible, too.

Should I just give in and match the silver? Forget the pretensions of youth and concede the battle? :rotfl2:

I'm sure my toddler will aid and abet the enemy... :rotfl: DH and I are both sprouting silver daily, thanks to Princess "NO!"

:rotfl: Oh man, I needed this laugh! I'm so ready for the weekend! Thank you!!!

This is why, IMO - boxes fail. When you actually mix your color from (lets say Sally's) you can customize it.

I would find the color you use at Sallys (which may be able to be found on your box Level ____ (followed by letters) use it with equal parts 20 peroxide - because 'most' boxes are 20 (if you could tell me what you use, Ill tell you the level - or your natural color and what you lift to would work too) and then find an obnoxious red and add a capful to your above mixture

OR - start using a colored shampoo, and it will deposit red. Goldwell makes a fabulous shampoo and conditioner that deposits amazing color, and shine.

I see nothing wrong with using box color if you are in need of basic coverage, especially those pesky grays....:smooth:

If all you need is basic coverage, you dont need a 20 or higher volume peroxide that store stuff will have. I disagree, sorry.

I'd go to seperate places for both. It isnt like you get a package deal (at least our salon doesnt)

Will you PM me a pic? You may not even need to re-dye and can tone (or glaze) that. Heck, a colored shampoo might even work.

Dont hide.

I don't have a digital camera to PM you a picture. I just washed it a few times, I'm going to dry it and see if it got any lighter.
