Well Im looking for a stand point from someone my age.. I have asked people from a parents point of view.. but now i need the point of view of other teens. So Here you go! I *might* be asking a guy to sadies dance.. I say might because I don't really know if I have the guts to do this. What makes it even worse is that I don't know how to ask my parents if I can even do so. I am 16 yet I don't know what to say. With my brother who is 9 my parents say awww you should ask that girl to the valentine's day dance, yet with me its like don't date until your 30.. Do you get what im saying? I dont know what to do.. I mean I love them they are great and i know they are kidding when they say that, yet I feel like I can't go out on a date. my father is the principal of my highschool.. so he would most likely also be at the dance.. I dont get it, He sees how everyone else my age is yet it is like im oblivious to everything? Yes I know they have my greater interest in mind but sometimes it drives me crazy! The guy I like is in marching band with me. I don't know him really well personally. I know alot about him, but I dont talk to him all that much. My father knows his parents because his dad teaches at the school. So there is connection there. Alittle help would be greatly appreciated!

That's gotta be kinda akward, with you dad was your principal.

I guess what I would do is mention in passing that you're thinking of asking someone and see what they say.

Nah.. its not that awkward.. my friends and I are always in his office and stuff after school. I like it, its fine with me.. Its just I dont know how to tell my parents I want to ask a guy to a dance ugh! so confusing to me lol!

I know exactly what you mean...
Well, I don't know, because I'm in almost the same position, except I would never be able to ask a guy out, I'm too scared. But, I would say just ask, get it over with. The worst thing they're gonna say is no, and I don't know your parents, but you're right, they're probably joking, and they'll probably say yes.

Yes I am scared out of my mind too.. Im not the outspoken kind of person.. in fact im pretty shy except around band people and people im friends with. I would never ever ever have the guts to do this no matter how much I want to except my friend and I made a deal.. therefore im kind of forced to ask him in a way.. no not forced its a motive to ask him. I really like him and wished he would ask me to a dance but Sadies is the next dance coming up.. and since all of my friends know im a scarddy cat.. they decided a deal would be the only way i would have have the corage to do so.. It still doesn't mean i will because this is like major! I have never done anything like this before.. ah!

I'm exactly the same way, I'm really quiet unless you know me, and then I don't shut up. And I'm always nervous around guys I like. I don't think I could ever ask a guy out, unless I knew for sure he liked me. And even then, I'd be hesitant. But, you definitley should.

Im trying to figure out a way to find out if he would say yes.. before i asked him lol.. Because one of my friends knows his sister who is a year older than him so.. i dont know im contemplating a plan! Hah.

not until december.. so i have plenty of time to figure it out. ;) I just figured i mine as well figure it out now rather then later...

Well, yeah, but it would be kinda wierd if you asked him so soon, you know?

lol i dont plan on asking him this soon.. I plan on figuring out how im going to ask him and asking my parents if i can ask him..

I have no idea. My stradagy is to wait until someone asks me. That's why I'm still single :rotfl: . But that doesn't really help you =\

I have no advice, but GOOD LUCK!! :thumbsup2

Wait is Sadies Day dance when the girl asks the guys out? Or am I totally wrong? lol :rotfl:

yes it is when the girl asks the guy.. Yup im a sophamore and have never been on a single date! ;)

OT: What instrument do you play and are you in marching band? lol.. I play the clarinet and as i said above im in marching band LOL...

Yup. I <3 marching band :D And I play the trumpet :)

On the subject of parents Don't worry 16 is the PERFECT age to start dating. And about the guy. You do know him atleast to the point he would consider you a friend, right? Otherwise that might make this method of asking a little awkward.
. . .In my school asking someone out to a school dance is like. . .this big production. We fill rooms with balloons, bathtubs full of fish. . .the works! So maybe asking in a goofy way would make the whole thing less awkward and put both you AND him at ease.

Asking your parents:
You've got two choices here really, in my mind.
One, just ask them, or just ask your mum. I find it's always easier to ask my mother, and if you choose to do so, make sure your brother or father aren't there because they'll probably crack a joke at it. Usually if you ask your mother she'll talk about it with you, say her answer and talk it over with your father. It makes things a lot more scary to ask.
Or don't ask them. Ask him first, and if he says no, you won't have to worry about telling your parents. And if he says yes, tell your parents you have a date to the dance and if it's okay. If they say no, you can kindly tell him what happened, I'm sure he would understand.

Asking him-

Depends on the person. Usually the girls ask at winter formal (or winter dance or whatever, dances in that month) and at prom the guys usually ask.
If he's the kind of person who wouldn't mind being asked out in a neat way, you could take a bunch of balls fromm his favorite sport and spell out 'Dance with me?' or if he doesn't play sports, you could tape those words out on a bunch of instruments.
If he's not into the big bang of asking, just ask casually.
