We are going next month and since there will be 8 of us this trip, we can leave the baby with my SIL and I can actually try some of the thrill rides.
I've wanted to try dinosaur and if I go (I'm a big chicken) it will be with DH. I know he will want DD7 and her cousins (ages 7, and 10) to go with us too.
How scary is it?

Last May my 9 year old neice and my 5 year old nephew went on Dinosaur, they said it was scary but they liked it. Hope that helps. :goodvibes

imagine drunk driving meets pop out in your face animitronic dinos.
the motion base is probably more intense then the acutal dinosaurs as you can close your eyes.

1. 4 seats in a row.. take a center seat
2. their is a bar in front of you. hold on.
3. Scream this relives stress =)

rember 2 things.. the dinos cannot touch you. and its no that long

Does this ride make you dizzy? Is there spinning? Of all the times I been to disney, I was too scared to try it....

I love Dinosaur, but it can be scary to the little ones (and even the big ones too if you don't like really loud, scary looking things looking at you). It is insanely loud inside that building, so you may want to plan accordingly if your ears are sensitive. There is no spinning and I don't get dizzy...I have a lot of motion sickness issues, but this ride is fine for me.

The first time I rode it it scared me (as an adult), but I think it was all the build up in my head. I kept sinking down further & further in the seat, closer & closer to my friend to try to hide from it.

It is dark, loud & the ride is jerky. The dinosaurs do not touch you, but when you aren't sure when or where they are coming from it is freaky. I think I would've felt better sitting in the middle (I was on front, left side).

Many kids will like the rush of being scared, but if the child is already timid or a bit of a 'fraidy cat I would not take him/her on it.

Very scary!!! I always scream in actual terror a couple times during that ride! I know they can't eat me, but I seem to *forget* that while I'm riding!! Last time we were there I saw a little kid about 4 years old bawling his eyes out after riding -- his mom was saying, "I'm sorry I took you on that, don't worry, you never have to ride it again!" There always seems to be a really little kid or 2 crying at the exit! But it is HUGE fun, IMHO! If you're worried about the kiddos, you could always go first to see if you think they'd hate you for life if you took them. My 9yo DD still won't ride it -- but she's queen of the ride chickens, so don't necessarily go by that!!! ;)

I think it is more jerky than scary. If you don't like getting bounced around hard, don't go on it. It is fun to see the theme of the whole ride, but I can't take the jerking.

No spinning just A LOT of jerking back and forth, like whip lash worthy jerking :lmao:
I did it when it first opened and said I wouldn't do it again (that was before I had DD). Last year DD CRIED to go on it, she watched a Disney sing a long where all kids went on it and wanted to go. Well, me and fiance both had our hands over her eyes the whole time :lmao:
Its also very loud and dark and I think that just added to DDs fear.
I have no desire to do it again.

It's not terribly scary, but it's the only ride at Disney I will probably NOT go back on. It's very jerky and bumpy and my neck hurt for a couple of hours after riding. (I don't usually have neck problems, so it wasn't a matter of aggravating an existing problem.) Plus it's too dark to appreciate the theming and the dinosaurs. I'm horrified to say this... but I liked Jurassic Park at Universal better.

It is more loud than actually scary. It is very bouncy and jerky, like riding a jeep over very rough roads fast. My 5 yr old wasn't afraid but he did keep his hands over his ears a lot of the time.

Just ask the kids. If they want to go on take them. If they don't like it then don't go on again. I'm a big believer in letting them decide themselves and if they get scared oh well you tried and learned don't do it again. How will they ever try new things or find out what they like if they are never allowed to try?

I agree with the PP, its mostly how loud the ride is that makes it so scary. The dinos are really lifelike too, so I need to keep reminding myself that they're fake! But this ride is awesome.. now that I actually open my eyes on it

Many young ones are ill-prepared for this ride.

It is loud, dark and scary.

Some will not find it bad. Others, like my youngest daughter the first time she rode it, come out crying and vowed never to go on it again. That was 4 years ago. We've been every year 2006, and she will still not go back on it.

The warning on the sign at the entrance is very much applicable to many.

The scariest dinosaur is the loudest one, near the end of the ride. It is closest to the person in the front row on the right side.

It is incredibly loud.

Basically, if you don't like loud noises, dinos with teeth suddenly appearing out of the darkness, and a rough ride (the vehicles have tires, they make sharp sudden turns and go over sharp bumps) then sit it out.

I went this past Sept with my hubby, our 2 daughters (8&5), my 2 friends with dauther (8) and sister (6). The picture that we got at the end of the ride had all 4 of us adults laughing our heads off while all 4 of the children are burrowed so deep into our sides they're trying to disappear. I had my hand over my youngest daughter's eyes for most of the ride. We thought it was hilarious...they never want to ride it again. The picture is priceless though.

I agree with this take. The kids in our family have always been fine riding it, but it's not their favorite ride. It's actually a few adutls who cover their faces. The older adults sometimes skip it too, if they dont' feel like being bounced around. It's doesn't spin or have any real drops, but it does make a few quick turns in the drak and bounces you around. Again, the issue is not motion sickness, it's age. Some members of my family are prone to muscle soreness.

Hopefully I'm not giving away too much when I say the ride uses loud noises, darkenss, and strobe effects. I honestly wish WDW would lower the volume on several attractions. I personally don't find it scary, but others have posted different feelings. As other posters have said, if you close your eyes, then most of the effect, and all of the visuals goes away. If you also plug your ears, then you've got little more than bumpy jeep ride. (only a little more bumpy/speedy than the safari ride.)

It's well worth trying at least once.

It's not my all time favorite ride, but we ride it every visit. The pre-preshow waiting room - which you miss if you use FP or it's slow, is actually pretty neat (not the movie preshow, the room that looks like a museum.) It's probably my favorite part.

If you are very reluctant, you can try going to just this and the preshow movie - then skip the ride vehicle part. At least that will give you a good sense of what the attraction is like. Probably nobody will assume you are exiting because you are chicken - they will just think you have some kind of injury.

My DS 7 found it scary. There was a pre-teen sitting with us who also found it scary. The adults were okay. I didn't find it scary at all, but it was very bumpy and jerky. If your kids have any issues with the dark or loud noises, (or lifelike dinosaurs!) they will likely be scared. I know of adults who also found it a little scary --it really depends on the individual.

I didn't think it was scary so much as really loud and dark with lots of strobe effects and pop-out-in-your-face scares. It was OK, but certainly not a favorite of mine...

My dd6 (she was 5 at the time) would have HATED it (which is why we didn't take her on the ride)! She is not the kid that likes to be scared and she dislikes really loud attractions - Splash Mountain and Test Track are really her limit.
