how scary expedition everest

I love roller coasters, and I found it kinda boring. The only ride at Disney that was exciting to me was RnR.

I ENJOYED EE, don't get me wrong. But it wasn't a thrill ride, to me. :)

Depends on who you ask :rotfl: Me? HATE IT!!! I hate rides with the slow click-clank up a hill before an impending steep drop as well as rides with just steep drops. Therefore, EE and Splash are my least favorite rides in Disney. But I LOVE BTMMR and can handle Space Mtn. (although it's jerkiness kills me)

My dh and kids (6 and 10) badgered me into finally going on EE last year. I sobbed through the entire ride with my eyes clenched tightly shut. :scared1: My dd (5 at the time) sat next to me with her arms flung up in glee laughing like a madwoman. My dh and kids ride it over and over - it's their favorite ride. I was perfectly content on our trip last month to wait in line with them and gracefully exit through the chicken door. Like I said, depends on who you ask!! :rotfl2:

My 8-year-old has loved it since he rode it at 6 for the first time! It comes in second as his favorite ride in all of WDW--Rock 'N' Roller Coaster is first.

If you like thrill rides, it is not scary. I like the ride, but I cannot ride it myself. The backwards helix in the dark put such a horrible pressure on my lungs, I thought I was going to pass out. That part was scary. The ride itself was great.

I am not a major rollercoaster guy, but this ride is awesome. I get motion sickness on the plane ride down, but this ride does not bother me at all. It is very smooth, and the drops are not bad at all. Seems like most of the major drops you can see or feel coming. Also...everyone who is talking about the darkness...you really are not in the dark very long at all, but it is completely dark for a few seconds at points.

Space Mountain is my all time Disney favorite--but it is kind of a nostalgia thing. This ride is just plain fun.

I can do it about 4 times in a row early in the morning with no wait...and then I have to sit down. Once should not bother you a bit!

Any part of the ride that is moving forward is pretty tame. I hate the backwards in the dark part though. My trick is to look down over the side of the train because there is light where the tracks are. It's the only way I can stand that part.

I HATED it!!! :scared1: My 8-year old son hated it, too. My 13-year old son went right back on.

I asked people on line how it was. They said there were not drops (they lied), and that it's less intense then Big Thunder Mountain (another lie)!

Any ride with even the smallest drop does a number on my stomach.

At one point, I thought I would never come off there alive! I was dizzy and felt sick to my stomach after. But, hey, I rode it!

I watched a video of the ride on youtube. I have 2 questions: Does the track switch when you are at rest looking at the broken track? Because going forward you do not go thru the darkness.
And what is all the talk about the Yeti being broken? Is there no Yeti now? Does anything happen with a Yeti now?

The Yeti didn't appreciate DH getting this photo.

Yes, the tracks switch.

The Yeti is there; he is not functional.

I didn't find it scary, per se, but did make me feel very sick! I think it was the going backwards, in the dark, fast, nearly upside down, in 100 degree weather that did me in!

Unless the Yeti truly did rearrange the tracks there is no point in the ride where you're nearly upside down - not even close. :confused3

I wish non-drowsy Dramamine (or Bonine) actually didn't make me drowsy. But it does.

Maybe if I take it the night before I'll be okay for the rides the next day. It's a thought....

It's my favorite ride at Disney, hands down. It's much smoother than Big Thunder and Space Mountain. Definitely a lot faster and larger drop than Big Thunder (both going backwards in th dark and then after the yeti clip/track switch, that drop is pretty intense). I went on it 10 times in a row, my husband did not love going on the front, but he did it for me because he's awesome, haha.

I thought Space Mountain was scarier because you cannot see anything, it's much jerkier, and there were times I thought I was going to fly out of the spaceship (okay not really but I was holding on for dear life.) My husband told me the first time we went on it, I sounded like someone was murdering me. Between my blood-curling screams, I could hear him laughing behind me the whole ride. :lmao:

Also! The yeti used to move and take a swipe at you as you went under it. Unfortunately, this caused his platform to crack, so they no longer have him move, for fear that the platform could break and injure someone. I know I wouldn't want that yeti landing on me. So now they have a strobe light that gives off the effect that he's moving. He's still scary nonetheless and I scream every time we go past him at the end.

I wouldn't say it's scary, just the antici...pation before the ride may be unsettling. once you get on there, you will love it quite honestly. however, if you aren't a roller coaster fan, DON'T go on it.

I love Thunder Mtn and Space Mtn...I would NEVER touch Aerosmith or Tower of Terror. To be honest, I cant stand rollercoasters...but love Disney's.

I finally mustered the guts for EE and its my FAV ride now in Disney! I was so scared going on it, and a lil girl and her mom were in front of me and both were like Don't worry its not bad!

Its really not!

That drop isn't as bad as it looks since it banks....going backwards isnt bad because you go backwards UPHILL not downhill in the dark...actually a funny feeling.

Its great! DO ITTTT! Im a big baby myself with these rides...if I can do it YOU can do it!

It's my favorite non-classic Disney ride. Not as intense as Space Mountain and not scary at all. I would put it between BTMR and Space Mountain as far as intensity.

I admit, I'm a big wuss. If you don't usually like coasters, don't do it. My Dsis loves coasters, she found EE relatively tame, but very cool (theming...). I, on the other hand, can barely handle BTMR. I had my eyes clenched close the whole time I rode EE. I especially disliked the backwards part... and the speed.

My 2 cents:

I absolutely LOVE the ride. I am not a super-thrill ride person, however I've done just about all the thrill-type rides at WDW, and love them all. However, trying to be fully objective - Everest is definitely one of the more "smooth" roller coasters, definitely much less jerky than Space Mtn. However, I'd personally rank Everest at the highest intensity of all the roller coasters. With Everest I get that feeling in my stomach, particularly at the backwards portion - and I did not even get that feeling on Rock 'n Roller Coaster. I personally don't mind that sensation, but I would say that Everest is the most intense.

My father's perspective - he loves Splash and Big Thunder, but stopped going on Space a few trips ago because it is too jerky. He just tried Everest for the first time, and I don't think he'll go on it again - a little too jerky and too intense for him.

Ummm, no. You go backwards in the dark and through a loop. But after coming out of the loop you're going forwards again. Also, if you geet disoriented easily there are construction seams in the mountain wall that let in some of the outside light. Watch for these and it might help.

Also, remember what (I'm told) fighter pilots do to deal with G forces - when going into the loop, dig your feet into the floor and hold them there. This is probably more important for Mission Space than EE, but it definitely helps me in the loops.
