How sad is this!

they dont wait in the regular line. however, they have to wait for the wheelchair boat to come around, and for whoever was in front of them to ride. this means the wait is usually longer for them than the stand by line. this is one of the few lines that is not mainstreamed...

I have a related question...

Can anyone tell me how ECV access works at It's A Small World? I have seen people enter in through the exit in an ECV, so I'm wondering how they wait in the same lines everyone else does. Not meant to start a debate, just asking.

There are a few lines in the MK that are not Handicapped accessible because the MK was built before ADA. Small World is one of those lines. When able bodied guests enter the boats on Small World they enter on one side of the water but exit on the side of the water.

There is no way for the CM's to take WC's and ECV's on the other side of water so when Handicapped exit the ride the WC's and EVC's would be on the wrong side of the water. Therefor the only way the ride is accessible for disabled guests is if they enter the exit.

They enter the exit but most of the time they have to wait.

Often the wait is longer for the disabled guest than the able bodied guest.
Only a certain number of disabled guests are allowed on the ride at a given time because of Emergency evacuation laws. Also there is only 1 boat that can carry WC's for those who cannot or do not wish to transfer to a regular boat.

So you see even though we may enter the exit our wait is often just as long if not longer than the wait an able bodied guest has.

I hope that clears it up a little fur you.

My dad will be using an ECV during our entire trip in December. We will most likely get the odd looks when he gets off of it and walks "normally" to the ride entrance and waits like any one else. My dad doesnt look Disabled, doesnt act disabled and pretty much can do everything any one else does. The normal person most likely would never realize whats wrong with my father. He is an amputee and to be able to remain a below the knee amputation his stump isnt a pretty smooth one people are used to. Its more like a ham leg you would see in a cartoon. Walking long distances irritate it and he would be miserable. That being said, in the 11 years since he lost his leg in a work accident I know of 1 time that we Skipped line, it was 6 months after it happened, it was at Universal, and we didnt ask. They saw his can and called us over.
