How on earth did you choose?

When we purchased in '93 OKW was the only resort available. We have added on a small contract since the original purchase (OKW) and have not had problems at the 7 month mark to switch to a different resort. My kids love OKW and would rather stay there than anywhere else.

So true.

We use that decision making methodology at work - its a little more complex and its called Kepner Tragoe. And yes, even at work we get to the end and say "wait a second, that isn't the right decision" - at work the methodology then extends to figuring out why you don't think so - for personal decisions, it generally good enough to know that you really did want the Civic and not the Mazda.

Quick question Crisi
Which DVCs are more Condo like and which ones are more Hotel like??

Spicey answered the question, but its probably worth noting what we mean by condo like and hotel like.

Condo like resorts have exterior access to your room. They are spread out in multiple buildings. OKW has HUGE balconies and large rooms (SSR has standard sized rooms). Parking is generally close to your room.

Hotel resorts are connected to, and therefore share amenities with, a Deluxe hotel. Interior hallways, room service, valet service. Generally, they have easier access to more food options (there is a signature restaurant connected to the resort - however, SSR has really good quickservice while BWV has the Boardwalk Bakery).

If you like the style of the CBR or POR - spread out buildings, laid back, parking lots near the units, you'll probably like the condo style resorts. If you are a sucker for interior hallways, all the rooms in a single large building, and room service - you probably will prefer the hotel style resorts.

Reading through these replies is great! Thanks!

I'm a little confused about the multiple vacation club contracts, though. If you have 100 points at BCV and 100 points at VWL, can you book 11 months out at BCV for 200 points? Or is your point total only what you buy per resort, meaning you can book 100 points at BCV 11 months out and then ???? what do you do if you wanted a room that is 200 points? Book 7 months out??

Does anyone understand what I'm asking?

I understand. Let's see if I can explain (not so good at this)...

You can only use, for example, BCV points to book BCV at 11 months out. Instead of just being able to use your annual allotment, if you banked last years point and borrowed this years points, you could use up to 3 times the points at that home resort. In your example, if you banked last years 100 points and borrowed next years you could make up to a 300 point reservation at 11 months at BCV. You can book using other resort points at 7 months.

I think if you go once a year it would work really well to have two contracts each equal to half the amount needed for your annual trip. By alternating which contract you use each year then bank the other you get to get a two home resorts fairly easily.

We didn't have to worry too much since when we purchased only OKW and BWV were available, and we KNEW we like OKW best. If you have not real preference, go for the least expensive maintenance, and that will be the larger resorts.

BTW, you do NOT need to go the resale route for the sold out resorts. DVC can and does still sell all of them, but you might have to twist the arm of your guide a bit to get him to agree to it.

we are thinking about purchasing our 1st sale, would they sell a resale to us being that we don't have our foot in the door yet??? Also, how does disney price them more than a dvc reseller for timeshares??

We chose VWL on emotions
~DH grew up camping at FW
~love the boat ride to MK
~atmosphere in Dec one of our favourite times to visit
~all the activities at FW
~the cozy feel

We chose ssr- I liked the incentive they were offering at the time- I love the resort. I want to stay at all the resorts but don't have a favorite and will never be disappointed at SSR. We are adding on at HHI specifically for the 11month advantage booking Grand Villas at Thanksgiving-

The look of OKW and BWV really attracted me. I hadn't seen either of them inside. Epcot is my favourite park, so BWV won. I'm still thinking about OKW for the size of the units and the 2 queen beds in the studios. Maybe I'll add on there...but then Kingdom Towers looks like its going to be a reality...
