How old were you when you learned you truly were getting old?

I have been able to run/walk as far as I wanted until a month or so ago.

My average day would cover 20,000 steps over 10-11 miles. Seven of those miles being targeted exercise either running, walking, or a combination.

A month of so ago my left knee swoll up while on vacation to the point I could barely bend it. After multiple trips to the doctor I came away with an ultimate diagnosis that I was just getting old and needed to slow down.

I am close to 50 but not quite there yet. Seems early to get a diagnosis of old.

I've had perfect vision my whole life.

Well, just within the last 2 years (so early 40s), little print (like what's on the back of medicine bottles) is suddenly hard to read.

I was telling my dad, & he laughed & replied, "Yep. Your eyes are the first sign." And then he went out & bought me some reading glasses.

I'm 48. Last summer I pulled a muscle in the chest running after Disney buses. (That's my favorite part of WDW -- chasing after buses and catching them!) I had painful spasms for several days, making it difficult to walk. Didn't stop me from walking from Epcot to DHS, I just had to yell from pain every few steps. Then I had a hard time getting out of bed, it hurt so much. Finally I took ibuprofen and the pain left. I had never had to take ibuprofen before, so I didn't think of it right away.

Last week, my eye doctor said I need bifocals instead of regular glasses. I'm having a harder time seeing up close. They cost $600. :scared:

So yeah, I'm realizing now that I'm getting old and need to slow down. No more chasing buses.:(

I have had trouble with my knees since high school (dislocated kneecaps), but since I turned 50, I have arthritis in them and other places where I was injured over 30 years ago (shoulder, foot). Now I have a torn meniscus and need a wheelchair at the airport and in Disneyworld. I didn’t need a wheelchair in Disneyland just a couple of weeks ago.

I got floaters in my eyes when I turned 40, and my ophthalmologist told me that I was getting old.

So at 40 because of my eyes, and 50 because of arthritis.

My brain still feels 25.

I tore the medial meniscus in both knees at different times during my 40s. I used to run for exercise. That’s how I tore the first one maybe 10 years ago. I tripped over a door jamb at school and tore the second one about 7 years ago. Both tears have been surgically trimmed, but my knees have never been the same. I’m 53 now and over the past 3 years the arthritis in my knees has gotten so bad that sometimes it hurts even to walk. I see a double knee replacement in the not so distant future because I seriously feel crippled by the pain.

Not yet.

I still don't feel "old" and I'm 60. My dermatologist did tell me, after doing a mole check at my last appointment, that all he saw was "ordinary wear and tear." LOL. I took that to be a gentle reference to my age. But, honestly, I feel great for 60. I can still run a mile in under 9 minutes, hike easily in mountainous terrain, etc. I feel a couple decades younger than my chronological age.

Honestly, it's just starting to really sink in now. I'm just a little past 50 and so many things are starting to catch up, albeit a lot of the problems could be greatly improved by becoming more physically active. My DH is 12 years older than I am and I've been quite critical of how he's slowed down; I'm beginning to understand that better now. It's obvious we both need to seriously re-prioritize our fitness and well-being if we want to stay as vital as we've always imagined we would.

That's the physical side. As far as for being a grumpy old bat that's completely out of touch with modern life, well, my DIS posting history will show that's absolutely nothing new. ;)

Well at 33 I realize I’m not invincibly young anymore. I developed chronic health issues after having my children and I never worried much about that before. Don’t they say you feel old when you start falling apart?

I need to actually work to stay in shape. I started using beauty products for my skin. I’m usually asleep between 9 and 10pm. I feel more set in my ways and have more opinions than just going with flow all the time.

Also, I think a part of feeling young is being carefree. The responsibilities of parenthood are stressful.

Really, I guess I don’t feel old just yet because I know I’m not. But I have a realistic view or awareness that the process has started there’s no going back. :thumbsup2

Right around 40. I always used to laugh at 40's say "they are too old for that." Then I turned 40 and everything started falling apart. I totally got it after that.

I turn 40 next year and all my loves from high school are either coming back into style or doing reunion tours.

I will be 46 and it has been the past couple years that things hurt and my eyesight has gone to crap and it's hard to keep the extra weight off and my hair is super graying and....
