Just curious as to the general age people tend to be when they actually bought into DVC. I realize that some couples may fall into different age ranges, but since this is unscientific, just put the age of the person who brought it up and acted as the primary decision maker if there is one.

Another question might be how old and after how many trips before you bought. We took 6 trips in two years before we bought in March of 02, our youngest was born 4 days after we bought. At 35 and 3 girls I figured that a regular hotel rooms with only one bathroom would not do.

We first looked at DVC in the later 1990's when it was just 3 of us, now that we are a family of 4, we took the plunge and bought last year. With a family of 3 boys :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy: (including hubby) and 1 girl (me :earsgirl: ), the typical hotel room just isn't too comfortable any longer (if you know what I mean! )

So, our interest started when we were in our mid-late 20's, and we were financially able to join in our early 30's. :teeth:

We were in our mid 30's. Neither of us had ever been to WDW.

In July 2000 we went with my aunt and uncle who were already DVC members. We met them and started at an offsite time-share on one of those "stay for 3 days free, but listen to our pitch" offers. It was nice and we were impressed. Then we went to VB for 3 days and then BWV for 2 more. We also worked in an overnight stay at AS (sports).

We were completely hooked on WDW and DVC. It was the only way to vacation in our minds. We couldn't imagine staying off property. And we figured if we were going to frequent WDW, we wanted to stay at the Deluxe resorts.

By the following March we were proud owners at VWL.

We just bought in Feb (YES YES YES!!!) and I just turned 26 yesterday. We just got married over this past summer, but love Disney so much that we figured it was better to buy something like this rather than little gifts for each other. I'll take a trip to Disney over a gift any day!

My DH and I were 39 and our son was 12. We had vacationed at Disney 4 years in a row and mostly stayed at ASMo. We just had our first trip him a few months ago.

We were 28 when we bought into BWV (resale) last fall. I can't remember exactly, but I think that my DH brought it up. We decided to buy when we were on a vacation at BWV with rented points last Nov., and we bought pretty much right after we got home :)

DVC is very different from the other timeshares - alot more young people (both singles and couples) and less golfers.

OKW was surpose to appeal to the older couple who golfs - but DVC got a surprise alot of younger people who did not golf brought there.

DVC can learn and did.

Wow.. I am really surprised at the results on this poll--I had expected to see much more representation in 40+ age categories, and definitely didn't expect as many to fall into the 30 to 34 age range. Guess DVC owners tend to run on the younger side (myself included)!

My husband and I were both 45. Our 5 kids ranged from age 10 thru 17. We bought the first year DVC was available. Would've bought sooner (which would have made us younger:p:p) but it wasn't around.

I bought in this past February as a 49th birthday present for myself! The kids are 11 and 9(the oldest one is 25 but he hates Disney-where did I go wrong??!!):)

I was 45 when we bought in 1992, my DH was 60. My daughter was 15 and my son was 18. My step kids were all grown and married. I never felt uncomfortable at OKW (Disney Vacation Club) because of my age. At that time there were many couples around our age as members. We have since added on many times and love our membership. We will enjoy it while we can because you still deserve vacations when you get old. I was very worried about whom to pass the membership on to, since none of our 5 kids has shown any interest in DVC or paying our high yearly dues, we own 1000 pts. Since reading these boards I am entertaining the idea of staying at OKW in a one bdrm for the month of January, when we aren't able to travel anymore. Not a bad place to go to escape the cold NJ winter.
I wonder how many old timers actually access forums like these and if your poll might indeed be scewed.
Marylyn--56 years old and love Disney

It took me 2 trips to the World to start considering it since it became obvious that it was going to be an annual trip. I made my pitch to my DW but we decided that we couldnt do it. Then after the third trip I made a stronger pitch for it. We probably should have gone on the DVC tour but didnt. I did listen to a guide at All Star Sports but we ran out of time to go see the property. I was 37 when we bought in last year. Now that we are in and actually stayed at VWL my DW is glad we joined. She in fact has made the comment that we could start going twice some years.

At 63 we took the plunge, but then again Disney didn’t have the Beach Club Villas before that. Location was the selling point for us. Up until joining DVC Dixie Landings was our favorite location because of the beauty and tranquility. :)

I was 36 almost 37. DBF said he wanted it all in my name since he was 54 and convinced he won't be around in 40 years. I let him know he's not going anywhere if I have any say!;) :)

Hi Grandpa,
It sure is nice to have someone near my and my husband's age enroll in DVC. I am 56 and DH is 71 so at your age you are in the middle.
We just added at BCV this week. Location etc sold us. We own at OKW and BWV already but just love the BCV Resort. My DH wants to sell our BW property since BCV and BWV are in the same area, and we don't really love the BWV. Most of the time we go to OKW or Vero or the Conceirge Collection.
I hope you enjoy your membership in DVC as much as we do.
Welcome Home.
Please feel free to email us at icy-dog@comcast.net or PM me. I was feeling grossly outnumbered by those youngsters.

I first looked at DVC in 1997 while staying at the Poly. I did not buy then, and now I regret it. Currently, as a member of DVC, I realize how much I missed. We bought in March 2002 at the new Beach Club Villas. In March of last year I was 46, now 47. Like a previous poster we have 3-kids. A 12-year old boy and two girls, ages 8 & 6. The rooms are big and comfortable. With a 2-bedroom we will be able to have plenty of sleeping space. Plus, my wife and I can close the door when we need some privacy.:p It is a wonderful situation. For years I chose work over vacation. Today, I enjoy planning vacations from one year to the next. I have 300-points at BCV. In a few years I will do an add-on, probably at the new Saratoga Springs resort. Good question, thanks for your post! :bounce: :Pinkbounc
