How old is too old to trick or treat?

I don't care how old people are that are TOTing. It's supposed to be a fun day. If someone wants to walk all over town to get a bag of candy, then more power to them. It's not my thing, but I'll gladly stay home and answer the door for them.

I live right near a university and always get college kids that come by. Who am I to ruin their fun.

as long as you enjoy it!!!!:)

everyone gets candy here - of course, we would prefer everyone have a costume but don't tell anyone no.

my last year was as a college freshman - I always wore a costune and was prepared to be told no. As college sudents, we were declined by a few but remained polite.

many of the adults on our street dress up - it's fun! Some want candy, but most don't.

You're never too old! I'm still going to be trick-or-treating in my 90s!:thumbsup2
My dad lives in a retirement home. The average age is about 85 with several in their 90s and the oldest is 108. This is INDEPENDENT living - not a nursing home.

They have the place so decked out. People were in costume and even had a pet parade. They are trick or treating tonight!

You're never too old, IMO.

:lmao:I love how you turned that around on me to make my kids out to be losers. :3dglasses

oh, wait! that really, really wasn't my intention.

When I was a teen I remember getting irritated with my friends because they were always embarrassed to get dressed up at Halloween or on spirit days at school to act crazy at football games. Some teens get embarrassed to look or do anything different from their peers and some just like to let loose and have fun. That's all I meant. :flower3:

Under 18 with a costume. I don't understand the way some people are so anti-teen trick or treating. If they want to grow up slower, let them. It's hard being a teenager, and there are lots of worse things they could be doing than trick or treating.

I agree!! I don't mind the older kids out trick or treating. In fact, I saw some of the neighbor boys who feel they are "too old" for trick or treating out playing football this evening, I had my kids walk a candy bar over to them. I don't think kids are ever too old to be given a treat! :goodvibes

Plus, if the teenagers come to your house and you don't give them candy...who do you think they are going to TP that night. ;)

How about when you're dead and buried?? ;)

Just finished up trick or treating and the teenager groups had the most creative costumes of all!! They got BIG handfuls of candy.

Anyone who wants to dress up and get in the spirit of Halloween gets candy - there is no age limit.

:thumbsup2

I could not believe it when she told me her and her husband dress up and walk their 9 month old around the neighbourhood to trick or treat. Their neighbours must love them.

I would love that! We used to have babies on the street. I loved it when their parents took them around, they made my night!

In a way they are. People only buy so much candy and when it is gone, the lights go out. If you have people of all ages trick or treating, there is less overall for the little kids.

I make sure that I have plenty. I don't care how old they are, if they have costumes. As long as they are polite they get candy. I don't think I have had 5 kids in the past 5 years who just grabbed chocolate and took off.

Sounds like a great time!

i am sad that we have not had more kids this year. In my neighborhood there are fewer and fewer kids going around. I still bake and make cider punch JIC we have neighbors stop in with the kids.

Well, I said in my post that it's too bad that dogs can't go trick or treating. I had a group of kids stop by with a dog (a boxer) and I gave all of the kids candy and the dog got a Milkbone :)

You mean you don't approve of ZOMBIES trick or treating? That seems discriminatory to me. As long as they can put on a costume an say trick or treat, they can ring my door bell. In fact, I am pretty annoyed right now because I have too much candy left and not enough KIDS!!!

I didn't let the 13 year old go this year. He's only 13, but he's really tall and looks much older, so I said no. I'm not a fan of teens trick or treating. Instead I let him invite a bunch of his friends over and they've been hanging out, eating pizza and candy and playing Xbox and watching movies. I did give the teens who came a piece or two of candy, and even some of the parents I knew.

Halloween is such a nice community time. There were kids of all ages out, the firefighters, police, etc. I don't think there is an age when it is inappropriate.

I give candy to anyone who is dressed up and rings or calls out trick or treat between 6pm and 8pm (town's official times). I will say I was a bit creeped out by the four adults that had no children and were wandering around for candy--I thought it was a bit wierd, but whatever!

It made me think, how old is too old to trick or treat? When do your kids stop trick or treating and start handing out candy?

I would have said that they're too old if they're a bedridden invalid, but having just visited a bedridden invalid at the nursing home yesterday: their age and condition didn't stop them. (Yes, some wheeled from room to room. I hope I'm that good natured when I'm in that state!) Is candy a precious commodity now? Is this an etiquette question? (I'm 99% certain Miss Manners, Emily Post, Ms Vanderbilt, et al would tell you to get over it or turn off your light.)

So, I guess less kids will have a tummy ache.;)

Okay - okay - simmer down.. The zombies are fine.. Meanwhile, ya wanna mail the leftover candy to me? :rotfl:
