How old is too old to trick or treat?

As long as they're dressed up and polite (Trick or Treat, thank you, etc) I don't care their age! The older kids could be doing a lot worse (like smashing my pumpkins). A lot of the time the older kids are politer than the younger ones. They all get candy - but those who have great manners get the spoils. :goodvibes

I stopped when I was in middle school because I wanted to pass out candy, but I make no judgments against those who are still into it. One thing I do appreciate is if they try to go out at a normal hour - I like to be "done" with trick or treaters by nine or so at the latest, and I hate it when anyone knocks on my door later than that. We turn off the porchlight and bring in the pumpkins, which were always the unofficial signs that the house was done for the night or not participating when I was growing up, so I appreciate it when that's respected.

Kids grow up too fast these days. As long as they are under 18, they are more than welcome to Trick or Treat at my house. Let 'em be kids as long as they can.

Anyone who wants to dress up and get in the spirit of Halloween gets candy - there is no age limit.

I agree. PLus if the kids are like my DD, then they may look older than they are. She is 12 and 5'5" and my DS is only 8 and stands almost 5 ft tall. I can't ban him just cuz he looks older, especially in costume. If they want to dress up and come TOTing then I will give them candy. heck, I've gotten them not dressed up and no bag so I've given them a plastic bag and candy. We all need to go out and act like kids sometimes.

Well, I said in my post that it's too bad that dogs can't go trick or treating. I had a group of kids stop by with a dog (a boxer) and I gave all of the kids candy and the dog got a Milkbone :)

our dog has gone ToTing with DD the last few years! He loves meeting people and got so excited this year. This year he had a vampire cape and last he was "Super Dog". One of our neighbors gives him a milk bone! I swear the dog thinks he is a kid!:)

I thought of this thread and had to laugh tonight when I was talking to my neighbor. She said she wasn't even turning on her light because all she saw walking around were groups of teenagers. :lmao:

We kept our lights on until we were out of candy (I actually left half way through the night to buy more and we went through all of that too). We did have lots of older kids, but they were all polite and many of them had great costumes.

Well, my DD was asked tonight, "aren't you too old to trick or treat?" She's 10!!! 10!!! Yes, she's tall (5'2"), but she doesn't look older in the face and she is still a stick, no figure yet. Give me a break! It's a good thing I wasn't with her!

If people are saying there is an age limit to Trick or treat, then by that same logic, no teens or adults should be going to DLR or WDW.

children of all ages should be allowed to have fun.

when the adults come to our house with their kids to trick or treat, I make sure to hand them a treat!!

and I don't care how old the kids look, they get a treat!

And some of the older kids costumes are very clever!

(one kid, dark blue pants, dark blue sportcoat, plastic pilot wings above the pocket, small pillow taped to his arm.) told me he was a northwest airlines pilot!:lmao:

This is the first year I handed out sweets to trick or treaters, I got rid of that stuff I trick or treated at the MNSSHP and had a great time. Might decorate the house next year and make sure I have more goodies to hand out. All the kids where with parents nicely dressed up and all said thank you.

Too old to trick or treat is when you FEEL too old to trick or treat.

I was GOING to TOT tonight. I was wearing a Ghost Busters shirt (it was a last minute decision) I totally chickened out though. Maybe next year? I am 15 BTW.

In our area the little ones go out early which is the only ones we would see anyway. We usually go somewhere so I don't even know if the local teens trick or treat.

When is too old? I wouldn't want adults coming because candy is just too expensive! When did it get so costly?

MTE! I will give out candy to anyone who rings the bell. I do NOT give out anything until I hear "Trick or Treat" however (unless it's a baby). I'll say "Hi" and if they say nothing, I'll ask "Did you want something?" (sort of laughing). They always say "ToT!" I get such a kick out of it. The vast majority say "Thank you" and "Happy Halloween." It seems partly that they have to be pushed sometimes to "get into the ritual."

BTW, I had a great time giving out candy last night, as you all can probably tell!:goodvibes

I had exactly ONE trick or treater and that was my best frends daughter. I was looking for groups of teens to get rid of the candy! I don't think it's my place to "weed" out those I don't think should be out. I'm either handing out candy or I'm not. Come to my door between 5 and 8 and you get a treat.

I would never have told my boys when to stop going out. They made that decison on their own. They were welcome to be kids at Halloween as long as they liked. Oh, and we still have an egg hunt every Easter(the boys are now 21 and 24 and they bring their girlfriends). My hubby and I fill the eggs with a different "code" every year. Different things are worth different points and we have gift cards as prizes. We all have a blast doing it.

Gues sthat's why my kids just took another trip to WDW with me in September, they can be kids with me as long as they like :)

DS15 went with his friend, also 15, and a cousin and his friend, who are 13. Three of us moms walked with them(not up to the doors); we like the exercise and company, and it is a tradition. DS said noone said they were too old or refused to give the candy. They are 5'6-5'8, so it was obvious they were older. DS did not say anything, as he was a guy from the Blue Man Group and they don't speak when they are in costume. He said he used sign language to say thanks, LOL

I do the same thing-mostly the teens would come up and say nothing so I smiled at them, said hello, asked how their night was going. If they still didn't get the hint I'd ask if they wanted something. They usually laughed and said trick or treat.

105. After that, it's just too hard to get around. Honestly, for anyone in the 90's plus, it's better to just do Halloween parties.

For anyone else, it's just good fun.

Here is a "terrible teenager" story for you- my daughter was not able to trick or treat this year due to the fact she has H1N1- the girl across the street is 13 years old, she knocked on our door at 830 last night and handed me a giant bag full of candy that she had trick or treated for "I know that ... couldn't go out trick or treating this year so I went out for her and got her all this candy" She didn't have a costume because she wasn't going to go out this year for herself but she went out door to door and got candy for my daughter. It made my daughters night! I had toldher I would go out and buy her a couple bags of candy but that wasnt the same of coming home with that mystery bag, dumping it out and going through all the candy--this girl across the street made that happen and I really really appreciate what she did.

There was a neighborhood girl that did that for me (I think she was about 12) when I couldn't go when I was 5 because I'd been in a car accident.
