Just wanted to say that statistically, more assaults happen in the ladies restroom than the men's. A male usually hides in the restroom and waits for his victim.
I would never judge anyone for bringing an older child into the opposite gender bathroom. When my DD asks, I tell her they must need some sort of assitance from their mom. Luckily, only my DS3 who is potty training needs assistance. When he no longer needs my assistance he will be going into the men's room. Just as my DD8 goes into the ladies room.
To each their own.
