I don't mind having the older kids in the Easter egg hunt, but I prefer it when there is a separate hunting area for the older kids. I also like it when the older kids' eggs are harder to find.
I've been to one or two egg hunts with my kids where the younger kids got overrun by older kids and the young kids got nothing while a few greedy older kids had baskets and baskets of eggs.
Also, putting a limit on the number of eggs each child gets isn't a bad idea, IMO.
This year, I signed the kids up for an egg hunt at the local grocery store when I saw that the age groups were split up nicely (1-2, 3-5, 6-9) and there was a limit of 20 kids in each group (should eliminate crowding). We also do an egg hunt with the kids' 3 cousins.
