How old is too old for an easter egg hunt?

I have an easter egg hunt at our house every year. This year I have several kids ages 9-13 that are siblings of younger ones. How old is too old to include them? All the other kids will range from 2-6 years old. There will be other activities they can do like decorate eggs but I just wasnt sure what the recommended age limit is for an easter egg hunt. Thanks.

I think the older ones would love to be involved. Heck, how about a hunt for the adults? But I would either have a separate hunt for them, or have certain colored eggs for the little ones and certain ones for the older ones.

I would also seperate the older and younger kids.
For the older kids, you could do an easter egg scavenger hunt.

As long as they want to hunt they should be allowed too. Our family has a limit so the older kids don't steal all the eggs from the little ones. Make it a family event, don't seperate everyone into groups.

In our family, the older kids (usually aged 10+) are the egg hiders. That way, they still participate in the tradition, but don't overrun the little kids.

Of course, no matter what age (there's a 20yo this year) every kid gets a basket of his or her own.

At my sister's house for years we did an egg hunt will all the older kids and DH and I too before we had our own kids. Then the first few years, that DD was around the rule was if it is below your knees and in plain sight it is for the little ones.

Another way that works really well is for the older kids to be able to only collect the pastel colored eggs and the little ones can find the ones that are easier to find. At the ILs, DD is the only one over 6 and she always (at 8 last year and for the last few years being significantly older than the other grandkids) has done a great job of not taking the eggs that were obviously easy to find.

Or place a number on it. Find so many eggs and then you are done and ideally help the really little ones who can't see an egg sitting right in front of them in the middle of the grass.

my mom's grandkids are 17, 15, 13, 7 and 5 (the 3 youngest are mine). They do an egg hunt for all of them. She gets different eggs for each kid and puts their names on them, then hides them according to their age. The younger 2 are hidden in easier to find places than the other 3. We have spent an hour looking for eggs for the older ones Even though my niece will be 18 in SEpt. I am sure she will still do the egg hunt this year. DH and I even "help" look for eggs with the kids...Its part of the fun!! I think holidays are for everyone of any age.!! Maybe for the older girls (didn't look to see the ages and sexes of the kids) you can get some of those little 88 cent lip gloss and nail polishes at Walmart, some candy, some loose change, body/nail tattoss, etc...Not sure about older boys, my parents just do money for our kids but I do cars, little army guys, small party size play doh, etc..in my little guys eggs

BTW, she makes sure (as do I at home) that all the kids get the same number of eggs with the same amount of money in them SHe will tell them they each have x number of eggs with their name to find.

We let the younger kids start hunting sooner. That way they can get the ones that are in plain site. After a few minutes we let the older kids out to do their searching.

We have 2 seperate egg hunts. One for my sister and I, and one for my nieces and nephews. Everyone has a good time. I love finding money in my eggs!

My mom does that, too! She usually puts a large bill (anywhere from $20.00 to $100.00 one year) in one of the eggs. I'm just an overgrown kid!

IMO there is no age limit. as long as you specify how many eggs each person can have to make it fair. this way the bigger kids don't cheat the smaller ones.

my mom does the name on the eggs too. I finally decided I was tired of doing easter baskets and egg hunts at our house since my kids are getting older, so I am just giving the kids cards with money in them. They can have an egg hunt at grandmas.

We had Easter at my MIL's house for the first time 3 years ago. The neices, ages 20, 19, and 13 all had their very first egg hunt. They LOVED it. The 13 year old took off running. They plus my 2 had the greatest time. They rounded up all the eggs, then took turns "stealing" candy for each others stack as they opened them up to find out what goodies they got. The 13 year old seemed to have found the most egg's with the Cadbury's hidden inside.

Last year, the oldest one's 25 year old BF hunted to. They have already called to make sure that the bunny was filling the eggs. I believe I have created a monster with those 3.

I don't think you ever out grow the fun of an egg hunt.

That's what my mom used to do for us up until the day my older sister gave birth. Lots of fun! Also, one egg had a special note inside and you usually got an extra goodie.
Also, my sister now has the hunt at her house and she makes sure that every one has a special egg that they need to find with their name on it. Each child, no matter what the age, gets to swap their special egg for a prize. Little ones get barbies or cars, big ones get cash or gift card. Never too old to celebrate!!

Us too! She hides candy and eggs with quarters for my girls and then the grown-ups (all in their 30's) get to hunt for eggs with cash! There's always one $20, 1 $10, 4 $5's, and some singles. Somehow, my DH and I usually end up with a bunch of singles, but it's still so much fun!

I say as long as the kids want to hunt eggs, let them...just set a limit or make it in a separate location.

There is no age limit! I would make separate hunts for the little ones though so they can really enjoy it. My DH still hides Easter eggs for my DSs, who are 20 and 16. They complain but they do it for the candy and the competition.

If it is for kids, I think that once they no longer believe in the Easter Bunny, they shouldn't be hunting. Older kids can "help" younger ones, or be in on the fun by hiding the eggs. Unless you make it an all-ages thing.

...but that's just me!
