How old is too old for a pushchair at WDW?

We went the first time when son was just five. He hadn't used a push chair for well over a year but so glad I took one. It was hot and he was in it all the time in the parks. Plus it was handy to leave all our stuff on. We would have had to buy one if we hadn't taken it. I always think, do what you think is best and dont worry what anyone else thinks. You'll never see the other people in the parks again.

We never used pushchairs past the age of 4 but they did spend some evenings on daddy's shoulders so for the sake of his back maybe we should have hired pushchairs a little longer

OP, do you still have a stroller? Or did you get rid of them? I know some folk have taken theirs, knowing they will never use it again here, and decided that use it or not, it is there and it stays there when they fly home (nice gesture is to offer it to someone who is going to rent one and tell them they can have it :) )

I still have it in my loft (like many other large baby items I haven't yet got round to parting with yet!). If I thought the airline would let me take it for free I might take it - it saves paying to hire one, but I am not sure they will due to her age. Of course, I'll make the decision nearer the time about taking it, as actually she may be totally fine without by then (in fact, the more I think about it, the more I think she will be OK, especially as we plan to split days/have rest days etc) ::yes::.

I also take the point about them being a PITA as you have to park up etc - always been a pain in DLP, so I'm sure it would be as bad in WDW ::yes::.

It's swings and roundabouts though, they are less of a pain in the bum than a 6/7 year old on your shoulders for hours a day (yes, I'm the Dad) and great for leaving waterproofs, ponchos, bottles, cups and spray fans hanging from minimising the amount you carry everywhere. Last year we took the stroller in most days (this was for our 5year old) and left it somewhere in the section of park we were going to until we needed it. Worked fine and no hassle.

The airline will be fine about taking it as well.

I miss having a pushchair for all of the reasons you have listed - we used to load ours up to breaking point.:rotfl:

When we go out with the kids in the summer, I now trundle a shopping trolley behind me, much to DH's shame.;)

Really? What do you carry? No being rude just wondering. :goodvibes

I have a rule - if it doesn't fit in pockets it doesn't come to the park! The only exception to that would be medical needs. At the most I take my small mini back pack - we haven't taken a large bag to the parks since DD was potty trained :)

I don't take a lot in but still enough to take a standard backpack. Hate being without my SLR and compact for back up. Always carry travel insurance docs, frozen bottles of water, bag of lays, pins, plasters, painkillers, numerous other little things, phones & wallet but none of like having things in our pockets, rather have a bag. Still not enough to want a buggy to store it though.

Our travel insurance it a plastic card so goes in DH's wallet. My phone, CC, DL & a $20 go in my phone case.

Can't be bothered to carry drinks and snacks. No need for plasters and pain killers thats what first aid stations are for ;)

Happy to take a bag if we are going out elsewhere just get fed up with it in the parks. :goodvibes

Lol, I'm talking about days out in the UK. We often go to Warwick Castle, Chessington etc. As a family of 5, (plus 2 friends usually) I always fill my trolley! I am the original picnic Mum, so there is a huge picnic, drinks, waterproofs, camera, phones, suncream, wipes, paper plates, plasters...you get the picture ;)

When there are 7 of you, it pays to a) be preapred and b) have a picnic so you don't have to pay for food.:thumbsup2

I'm another that will miss having a buggy to carry all my bits and pieces.

In our rucksack we generally have autograph books, sun cream, inhaler and spacer, camera, insurance docs and possibly 5 x ponchos.

Its not heavy but I hate having my pockets full

I think thats the decider for many on a bag, do you have things in your pockets or carry something. We would rather carry a bag, none of us want things in out pockets.

Oh man I am a mean mother then :rotfl: When DD turned 3 I gave her a little backpack and told her if she wanted it, she took it with. If she didn't want to carry it, it stayed at home. Same went for Disney. It makes the kids think carefully about whether they really need something when they have to carry it themselves. The only thing of DD's that I sometimes carry is her autograph book as I make large ones and they dont' always fit into her compact rucksack. Otherwise, you want it, you take it, lol

Wayne, I wish I was like you with pockets. I am a nightmare for it. My mother said I'm worse than a man :rotfl: I generally dont' carry a bag if I don't have to and stick my keys and phone into my pockets. The number of things I've broken when I've sat on them ...... :lmao:

For Disney I also have my DSLR backpack on me but it is packed with camera gear and there is just enough room for a poncho and a small wallet and that's it.

For all 4 of us, including a girl with bladder issues meaning a change of clothes is always on hand, we carried one backpack that included snacks, pins for the kids, and ponchos and a very small bag I had the Sorceror game cards, our passes, a camera and a few other bits in. It was much easier than a stroller. The back pack has a cooler section that let us have cold drinks with us all the time and made it easy to carry away counter service desserts.

Oh thats another thing, car keys, there is no way I could have car keys in my pocket all day. especially if they have a big plastic tag on and 2 keys on a welded ring:rotfl:

Yes, 'pain in the butt' takes on a whole new meaning if you use your back pockets for those :rolleyes1
