How Often Do You Shampoo Your Hair UPDATE #49

I have very long, fine hair which I wash (2 lathers) every day. I tend to skip a day on the weekends. But it has to be washed as I tend to sweat while sleeping (I like to be very warm).
I also use good shampoo and conditioner and a leave in conditioner when I wash so my hair is doing good. I have even have compliments from hairdressers while just out and about. Also I get compliments on how soft my hair is.

Wash and condition every day (occasionally take a sick or weekend day off!)

Rotating shampoos is essential -- I have 3 in the shower and alternate. They're varying levels of quality (nothing more expensive than Pantene). When one runs out I replace it with something entirely different (though the Pantene is a regular).

If you use the same shampoo you get buildup and THAT'S what weighs down your hair. My niece switched shampoos on the advice of a hairdresser and her hair went from straight and lifeless to a total curlytop! They were shocked, but the hairdresser said the horrific buildup on her hair was the culprit. Simply getting it off completely changed her entire "type" of hair from what they thought it was since childhood!

I have a ton of very fine hair, though -- those with coarse hair may need a different strategy.

I wash mine every other day. It gets too oily if I go a third day.

Shampoo and condition almost every day. Occasionally I will skip a day if I'm camping or out horseback riding all day, but other than that, I just feel icky if I don't. My kids wash their hair every other day I think, but I just can't do that....

I wash my hair once a week - Sunday nights. It is super fine and thin and it looks horrible when it is freshly washed. Also, I have to use so much gel and hairspray to get it to do anything that the washing, gelling, curling process takes about 2 hours - and that's not including the actual styling - so washing it is a major ordeal. It's doesn't get oily, though, and actually looks much better and is more mangeable later on in the week.

I wash and condition every other day (some times even every 3 days), but I rinse it out in between for styling. I have curly hair so it needs moisture and hides oil well.

if i don't wash my hair every day it is a big greasy mess, which makes me feel disgusting all day. :crazy2: i have very oily hair.

conditioning my hair depends on the day. sometimes i won't condition for a couple of days and sometimes i condition every day. i generally avoid the roots though. i never use products, unless i'm doing up my hair, so i don't really have any buildup or problems with stripping my hair.

i also can never wash my hair at night, because by the time i wake up, it's a big greasy mess again. yuck.

Every flippin day of my life that I don't have the flu or something.

Twice on days I work.

I have seriously crappy hair. DH calls it "baby hair"...it's so thin.

Very true. I rotate between garnier fructis long & strong, organix vanilla silk and organix teetree mint. I try not to use the teetree mint much since my skin hates it, but my hair loves it. :(

But this combo keeps my hair from getting dried out or getting buildup.

I wash my hair everyday in the shower, but only use conditioner about once a week. When I use conditioner every day, it takes alot longer for my hair to dry...it feels like it weights it down.

I shampoo every morning with Biolage Normalizing shampoo - I never use conditioner. I have extremely oily skin and by the end of the day my roots are starting to get that greasy stuck together look. If I skip a shampoo day my head itches like crazy.

I use Peratin oil product on the days I am going to flat iron it and Paul Mitchell Mousse on the days I am going to either blow dry it fluffy or let it air dry. I also get my hair color processed (High and Low lights) to help damage it which adds body and helps control the oil.

I'm 46 years old and I have always washed my hair in the shower and condition everyday. My mother used to say your hair is going to fall out, she got a shampoo once a week at the beauty salon.

When I was getting my haircut and colored on Newbury Street in Boston last week (a treat), the hairdresser said I shampoo too much my hair is too dry and she was on her 3rd day of not washing her hair. She wraps it in a towel so no moisture gets to it in the shower. So it got me thinking what the norm for a shampoo, men or women.

I am blessed/cursed with oily hair and have to wash it every day.

I haven't noticed any reduction in follicles over the years.

I have to shampoo every day. I have an oily scalp and it smells nasty if I don't. BTW, I'm 54. It has always been this way. It is short and when I wake it is standing out all over and nothing, not even wetting and blowing it dry will get it to lay down. I have to shampoo it to get it to behave.

I shampoo and condition my hair every other day. My hair will loose the natural oil and shiness if I do it everyday. My scalp would also be dry and that would cause my scalp to itch.

I was thinking about this. Maybe I just have a sensitive sniffer but if I walk by someone in a store that has a "dirty head" I can smell it instantly. It's pretty gross. I hate that dirty head smell!!! :scared:

That's another reason I can't go a day without washing. My head stinks & my hair is all over the place after waking up the morning. When my DH says, "What the heck happened to your hair during the night", you know it must be bad. :rotfl:

I used to wash it every day. Now since I changed to a cleansing conditioner instead of a shampoo, I skip a day at least twice a week.

I'm another with severe bed head hair. :rotfl: If I didn't wash it, it would be sticking up in all directions like this :scared1: I've always wondered how old ladies had their hair styled once a week and went without washing it. More importantly, how their hair stayed that way all week.
