How often do you request a specific table or change tables?

Almost never. We asked to move once at Red Robin when the restaurant was half empty and we were seated directly under an AC vent, but that's the only time I can think of.

We don't request specific tables. We DO arrange to get specific Wait Staff :). These great folks worry about tables... and they do a stunning job :).
We do the same, always request Rony at Citricos and if we have to wait a bit it is well worth it :thumbsup2

For those that do make requests, when do you make it? When you make the reservation, do you call ahead or when you arrive at the restaurant. In Feb., we're going to San Angel, and I'm seeing a few comments about that. And for the record, I didn't ask to be moved but I did freeze through a meal at Liberty Tree from an AC vent so I know what you guys are talking about.

I ask at check in and let them know I’m willing to wait.

Depends on the type of request.
Should I know I want a table facing a lake or prefer no high top tables I either ask at the podium or if the ressie was made through opentable.com check off the appropriate drop down box (that site also gives you space to write in requests) in advance.

I never know about seats by the bathroom or kitchen until I get there so make a decision when I look around as we are being lead to our table. When the staff member welcomes us to our table and pauses before sitting us down that's a good time to voice concerns.

We try to do dinner at California Grill once a year and each time we request the Monterey room, which is a quiet room that faces Bay Lake. We like it because its tucked away and out of the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. That's the only restaurant where we request a specific part of the restaurant, and its usually easy to get because most people want the castle/fireworks view.

Thanks for the name of the room! We sat there once as a couple and enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of the main dining area. Great view that's very serene. I even enjoyed watching the buses disappear into the tunnel.

My husband is the king of asking for a different table. When we go to a restaurant I make sure he goes into the dining room first because he is much pickier than me. He won’t sit in t(e middle of a room, next to a kitchen or a door. Or if the table is too small. If taken to that kind of table, he always says ...what about that one, pointing to another empty table. And invariably we are moved. I have asked a few Times for another table if I’m by myself or with the kids, I tend to be a little friendlier than my husband but again, rarely get turned down. It never hurts to ask.

THIS is why DH has to enter the movie theater before me. Apparently there is a 'perfect seat' in there...somewhere :sad2:
