How often do you repaint and redo your fingernails?

Do you paint them and then leave them alone until they start chipping? Or do you redo them on a regular basis?

I have recently gotten obsessed with nail polish and so far have bought about 90 different ones. Glitter, matte, metallic, 3d, crackle, magnetic, neon, everything. I have been doing my nails about every 3 days. I have been having fun posting pics of them on Facebook. But I know this is probably not normal.

How often do most of you do your nails? And do you do them yourself or do you pay someone to do them for you?

It depends. Recently, I only do my nails once a month and let the polish chip away before redoing them. I work a lot with my hands and need to wash them a lot, so most nail polish only lasts a few hours on my hands before chipping.

I go and get refills on my nails about twice a month but bring in my own polish so if I get bored during the two week, I can repaint my nails or fix them if the polish starts to fade off. I love glitter nails this time of the year but what a pain to take it off. So I have been doing sometimes just the tips with the glitter polish or I will have them do the ring finger just of glitter polish. I love looking at Pinterest.com for nail polish ideas...so much fun!!

Not obsessed exactly, but I need to be looking neat and professional at all times for my job. When I use bright or dark polish I rarely get more than two days out of it before it starts looking ratty. I can occasionally go an entire 5-day work week on one application if I use something pale and really pearly, but those colours don't look the best with my skin tone. (BTW, I also have TONS of polishes; every time I bring home a new one I find it's very similar if not identical to something I already have. And not that you asked, but I loath "nail art" and detest those nasty, plastic-looking acrylic nails with the glitter embedded in the tips.) :wave2:

I had french acrylics put back on in October but prior to that I would do mine once every 5-8 days depending on how well the polish wore. I'm a nail polish freak and have 3 under bed storage containers to prove it; they contain everything from OPI and Essie to Glitter Gal and A England. I paid through the teeth from some of my rarest polishes (Clarins 230 and OPI Rainforest come to mind) but when I wear polish, I wear it as an accessory, much like someone would wear a nice piece of jewelry. :upsidedow

I do mine every week or two. I usually do just the tips but I use color, not just white. I'm trying to figure out what to do for NYE nails right now. Sometimes there's nail art involved but nothing plasticy or anything that sticks up on the top of my nails. I either hand paint a design or I use decals. I always get compliments and most people don't believe that my nails are real, they expect them to be artificial. For polish I use Zoya almost exclusively, it lasts a lot longer on my nails than a regular polish.

I love nail art. My daughter is very very artistic and she does some really cute stuff to my nails. During Christmas she had painted my nails sky blue and had a little snowman with a scarf on, on each of my nails. So many ppl gushed over how cute they were.

I have China Glaze and OPI polishes but this week Rite Aid has had their Sally Hensen nail polishes 75% off and I have spent about $75 in there this week buying Extreme and Crackle and some nail stickers. I love the nail stickers. (The nail stickers that you put over your whole nail that look like polish)

I do not have fake nails but we have a ton of them because about once a week for a few days DD will do her nails long and fake. I never do because I used fake nails back in my late 20's and it permanently damaged my nails. Gave me grooves and ridges in them.

Right now I have Black nails with HOLO 3D Red glitter over top of them. When your nails move in the light they look really wicked. Like Vampire nails or something.

Something cute I did last week was to paint the base coat on my nails from the french manicure set. The light beige color. Then instead of white tips I painted the tips Black. And up in the corner of each nail I painted a little white daisy with a yellow dot in the center of the daisy. They were so adorable. Something different.

I paint my nails once per week. My favorite brands are OPI and Zoya, but recently I've been hooked on Butter London. How funny that I came across this thread. I'm about to repaint my nails now!

Where do you get Butter London? I have never heard of that.

ETA: Nevermind I found some on Ebay.

OMG I wish I hadn't looked at those. I have already found 4 colors I want.

I never have nail polish on, but DD12 repaints her nails every day or two.

She has about 85 bottles of nail polish, all different brands. Essie, OPI, China Glaze, Salley Hansen, Nicole by OPI and lots of other ones I have no idea about. :rotfl:

She has different kinds of polish (matte, shiny, sparkly, glitter, crackle) and all kinds of nail tools. She puts them to good use. :)

I have spent the last 15 years with NO NAIL POLISH ON and now I can't get enough. My DD13 got me back to wearing polish.

But once I get into something I sometimes get obsessed and get carried away with buying stuff.

I just discovered Fimo rods this week.

It's Black polish with HOLO 3D red glitter over it and when you move it looks like a hologram image kind of. You have to see it in person. It's weird but I like it.

That picture was friggin huge.

I love nail polish but don't get much time to do my nails any more. I used to redo the twice a week, but the nail polish remover was really damaging my nails using it that often. I've found that once a week is a good routine for me, if I can find the time.

I do my own every few days. Kinda. I do a base coat in gel polish, then start playing around with simple nail art ideas (ombres, stripes, dots, etc.) that usually get changed every few days. The base coat stays in place, all I do is change up the top coats.

How can you remove your nail polish but keep your base coat in place?

i do them by myself at least once a week. i too have quite the collection, and a "nail polish bathroom" :)

i chip them off on my own pretty quickly (bad habit) so redoing them is necessary.

also, if you don't have it yet, invest in nail polish thinner. having so many bottles means you likely won't use them all frequently enough and the older ones thicken up. it's amazing how well it works to thin them out again.
