The inflation weekly pay thread has me wondering what people prefer as far as a pay period.

I prefer monthly but have been bi weekly for many years. I make it work.

Non-American here, what kind of companies pay weekly?
I think here it might only be temp agencies, don't think we have bi-weekly. The default is monthly, for I think 90-95% of the companies.

Makes no difference to me, but I've always been paid weekly. I would be fine with biweekly. Once a month would be tougher.

My DH and I are both bi-weekly, and honestly that’s all we’ve ever been. But I like it because I budget monthly based on 2 paychecks per month, and the 2 months/year that end up with an extra paycheck feel like “extra” money.

I prefer weekly, I basically live paycheck to paycheck and it is scary when I have to juggle money to make stuff work. I do have a very little bit of savings and that's where the juggling comes in, but of course the point of savings is to try not to touch it too often so I'd prefer not to have to do transfers to cover when I'm not going to have enough in my bank account and then do another transfer back into savings later. Weekly pay is just better when you are poor :)

I don’t care. I’m paid weekly, but could easily deal with bi-weekly or even monthly.

DH is mostly retired, but still accepts occasional consultant projects. When he did it full time his payments varied depending on the particulars of each arrangement. Sometimes an initial payment in advance, then periodically. Others halfway thru then upon completion. Plus various other payment schedules.

For most of my career, I've been paid every two weeks. One job I had paid me on the 15th and last day of every month, that took a while to get used to.

At least for me those extra checks come at great times. Just in time to pay for a big summer vacation and again to pay for Christmas.

My husband works as a engineer in large construction firm. They pay weekly because most of the employees are Union and that’s how the union contracts read. So instead of running two separate payrolls they just pay everyone weekly.

That’s probably the reason I’m paid weekly too. So many store level employees depend on weekly paychecks, so it’s just easier to do the same for everyone.

The frequency can make a big difference to people who have to carefully budget. It's fairly luxurious to not have to worry about when you get paid because that means you realistically can cover your expenditures no matter what. But when I was younger it made a difference, with my mom in the past it has made a difference. It's made a difference to people who all of a sudden have a large unexpected expenditure.

I think people tend to forget what payday is with direct deposit and mobile banking. So long as you have enough to cover all the bills it's in and out of your bank account without you having to lift a finger.

Every 2 weeks was common when I was in retail although I think I worked a job or two where it was once a month.

The 15th and the last of the month what I was paid at the insurance company but if it fell on a weekend you were paid Friday, if it fell on a Holiday you were paid the day before. A few years back it switched to bi-weekly.

My husband has been paid weekly. By far the weekly has allowed the most flexibility and consistency.

I've always been paid weekly, my husband and son are also paid weekly. All are companies with a large number of union employees.

Here it is the complete opposite :) I think I have only been paid weekly when I was a student waitressing.

I don't think our unions discuss the salaris to be paid weekly or monthly. They are more about the salary itself, labour conditions, when you can/cannot get fired, strikes, etc. But probably also nit because most industries pay monthly.

My daughter is a college program cast member and gets paid weekly.

Other - I have no preference

I sit at my desk once a month and pay everything. If I get busy and can’t sit a certain day, then almost everything is on autopay and gets paid on it’s own. I do have a method for paying bills that I prefer, but if autopay works that month, then so be it. So our paychecks could come anytime and my way of paying bills won’t change.
