How often do you go to DL vs WDW?

I’m a new DVC owner who was raised on going to WDW, but never have been to DL. My family plans to head to Disneyland in a few years, but I’m not sure if we plan to go again (or at least not for a long time).

There’s a lot of talk about people buying DLT when it is available. So, I was wondering if after becoming a DVC member have you gone to both parks more or just continue your normal park (WDW or DL) patterns?

We've never been to DL and have no intent of buying DLT. We do have an ABD trip in the spring there so maybe my opinion will change at that point but I just don't see visiting the west coast frequently.

Being from CT, our numbers are skewed. We have made 103 trips to WDW and 9 to DL.

I'm a West Coaster so pre-Covid we'd go to Disneyland 2-3 times per month (day visits, exception being never in summer) and WDW twice for 6-7 days each. Disneyland is a COMPLETELY different experience from WDW.
That’s true… and for those that may feel a bit burnt out from WDW, DLR would be a great booster shot.

We live in San Diego ... so we visit DLR a whole bunch! ;-)

We purchased SSR in 2004 long before DVC entered the CA market. We used to visit both with reasonable frequency ... but haven't been to WDW since 2019 due to Covid. I expect far more DLR than WDW in our near future!

This matches our visit pattern identically. Agree 100%.

Live in FL. Three major WDW trips each year with our points, plus random day trips. And we bought VGC points when they were first released to travel to DL every three years.

Being DLR locals, the number of times we visit DLR hasn’t changed from pre- to post-DVC. What changed is where we stay, from off-property to VGC. Average 10 nights a year at VGC, and about 40 days a year at the parks.
For WDW, it has increased from 1-2 trips a year pre-DVC to 3-4 trips a year post-DVC.
For Aulani, it was supposed to be one trip every 2-3 years with a small contract. After finally staying there right before covid, we added more points there so it will be 1-2 trips a year now.

West Coast here too-love both but, even putting distance aside, would choose DL hands down over WDW if I had to pick. Like them both but DL is our favorite. We have been to WDW three times in last 11 years-we also own at AKV-but hit DL every other year, usually 5-7 days. Never do everything we want to do even with 5 park days.

Only time I went to Disneyland after growing up in AZ was when I was working a contract out in CA. I even purchased an annual pass at that time, but that was over a decade ago. Now that I am permanently settled in the east, PA, I doubt I would go to Disneyland again any time in the near future.

I grew up in Phoenix and we would hit Disneyland every three years or so. I love Disneyland! But I have lived in the northeast for over 20 years now and we have only used our DVC points for WDW, and our plan is to continue only using them at WDW going forward (except for an Aulani trip in two years). Upstate NY to Anaheim is a looooong trip compared to a 2.5 hour direct flight to Orlando. And I really love the WDW vibe and the feeling of total immersion when you are there.

My guess is that like VGC the new DLT will be sold mostly to west coasters who are interested in going to DL more. There was a time it didn't matter as much to own where you want to stay but now I'd only buy where I planned to visit most. We live west coast and pre-covid were probably 2-1 WDW to DL. Some years more like 3-1.

Just back from our second trip to DL, first with our kids. My 4 yr old is already talking about, "The next time we're in DCA..." We are a yearly for 7-10 days in WDW family, but I LOVE DL. Honestly, if money weren't an issue when the new DL hotel goes on sale, I'd seriously consider enough for a once every 3 year trip.

We live in Arizona.......we own DVC on both coasts, so go to DLR 3 times a year one year and then WDW 3 times the next year.....rotating.
DLR for 5 nights, WDW for 10 nights each trip

We live in Texas, so we're half way between the two. However, the ONLY time I've been to DL was way back in the summer of 2005, their 50th anniversary summer, because DS was a summer musical intern there, performing for various events.
Otherwise it's been all WDW, once or twice a year since 1987.

We are in the northeast and one of my family members will not fly, so no DL. We go to WDW twice a year.

When we bought into DVC (WL), we lived in California. So, we'd take trips once, maybe twice a year to DL. That was a 6-7 hour drive for us and always just a 3-4 day trip. Really don't need as much time at DL. We'd travel to FL for longer vacations/special occasions. The cost of airfare from California to FL was very expensive. I'm very happy that we've moved out of California and live on the East coast now because we're able to drive to WDW.
