How often do you get your hair highlighted?

Every four months. They aren't so noticeable when they grow out.

IF you have several different colors in your hair, is that call highlights and lowlights? I'm tryiing to figure out if this is what I want done to my hair.

Not necessarily. Lowlights are when they put a darker color in with the lighter. It is usually a light brown or a very dark blond. It's usually done if you've been "overhighlighted" and look too blond, or you need some depth. Having 2-3 colors put in could be lowlights or it could just be two different blonds and a red.

I don't highlight, but I get my hair colored every 6 weeks. The roots are probably close to an inch long by that time.

Same here, only sometimes I can't wait 6 weeks! I hate the way it looks growing in!

I get mine done about 3-4 months , But i get whats called a root lift too, They highlight my hair then after they wash and rinse that out, they put this stuff on just my roots all over and it lifts the color and my highlights last longer. It cost more but well worth it.

only twice a year...that's all i can afford on my student budget. (the salon i use is very expensive, but very good.)

I'm not sure. I had my hair highlighted for the first time ever about 3 weeks ago.

If you re-highlight too often will it end up 'over-highlighted' or are they able to just re-highlight the same pieces at the roots so that the whole head of hair doesn't end up 'light' over time?
