How often do you get an increase in pay??

I work for the government, and we receive step increases. They range from every year to every three years, depending on what step you are within your grade. I have another year before my next step.

We do receive a cost of living adjustment every year, which ranges between 2 and 5%, depending on what the pres wants to give us. :)
I think I need to work for the government! :teeth: The hospital does annual reviews and you can receive anywhere from 0% to a whopping 3%. When I got 1.5% I quit. Never a COLA adjustment. They said there's no reason for it!

I had to wait nearly 1 1/2 years to get a COL raise. I haven't had a merit raise in about 2 years... then again they aren't approving those at all right now.

As a sub teacher, I'm lucky if we get a raise every three years!!!

I have worked at the same health care agency for 5 1/2 years. During that time we have had ONE increas in reimbursement. Actually, I got an increase on a reguler home care visit but a decrease in evaluation visit. Maybe I should ask for more. I will use this thread as a reference.

When I raise my prices, I get a raise. I hate to go up on prices so...Let's see. I have owned my shop for 8 1/2 years and have gone up twice. I have a client who told me I should go up every year just like everything else does. He actually raised his own price and pays me twice as much as I would charge him. I'd like to have a bunch of clients who thought like him!!:p

There is no set schedule for raises at the company I work for.
Usually to get a raise you have to ask for one. And it seems that if one person get a raise others follow. A few years ago when I took over the HR when the HR person went on a temp. disability, I asked for an increase, which I got, and a few weeks later others in Admin. got raises also. IMO, it kinda takes away from MY raise when others get raise, esp. when it seems they are only getting them because I did.
In 5 1/2 years I have never gotten a raise that I didn't ask for.  But I have never not gotten a raise when I have asked.

I get two raises a yr. but the demand for my job is so high we have been getting great raises about every three months called market adjustments. Now they are looking into geting us specialized pay. I have gotten $4.50 in the past yr and 1/2.
Plus if we have a tech out of the dept for vactation we get a fifty dollars bonus per person we handle after 8hrs. and you wonder why health care is so high.

I've been a waitress for the last 3 1/2 years straight and I got my first raise as a server in years. I am now making $2.48 an hour. I started out at $2.04 back in '88 and then a few laters later went to $2.09 and about a year after that the minimum for servers went up to $2.13. Any other raises there and afterwards was strictly determined by the owners of the business all the other raises were state and federal.

I get a cost of living raise every year in January. They say that it is based upon review, but truly it is a cost of living raise as it adds up to about 3% and everyone gets the same amount. My company does not do merit raises, so my co-workers can be excellent, or do the minimum, and we all ge the same increase.

I’ve gotten a raise every year that I’ve been with my current employer. But, I’ve never had a review or performance appraisal. I guess it’s like you only have one if there are any problems. That’s okay with me – I’ll take the raise, but I HATE getting reviewed!

Thanks for the info guys. But it didn't make me feel better.

I am the only one in the office and this year I got the added responsiblitity of taking care of my bosses daughters new sign business which is in the office beside mine. She is a teacher during the day and does most of her work at night and evenings. I have been there for 2 years and got one raise. Some days I don't have a lot to do, but I still take care of everything in both offices. I also get his grandson and my daughter on and off the bus there. (Which is an added benefit to me) but his grandson is so rotten and will not listen at all. For the 1/2 hour he is there in the morning and evening, I am about to go crazy until it is time to leave.

Sorry to vent, just feeling a little unappreciated. It not always about the money (but it helps)

I've been a waitress for 6 years, started our at $2 per hour, now I'm up to $3, it's been "awhile" since she upped it so maybe there will be another one soon. I've never asked for a raise, I just don't feel comfortable doing that since the tips are my "real" paycheck. She gives them out when she thinks we deserve them. Cooks/dishwashers get raises more often than the waitresses do. Tips are great though, so can't complain!! :D
