I used to talk to my mother every day, until a few years ago when her Alzheimer's got to the point where doesn't speak or communicate at all anymore.

Years ago, when I lived in NJ, my mother spent a few days a week at my house

We were very close.
Also, around this same time, about 3 years ago, I lost my "second mother", she was my first MIL... she died of lung cancer. She had quit smoking 30 years prior

I still can't believe she is dead
Now I call my dad at least once a week, usually twice or more. He's taking care of my mother, 24/7, all by himself (he's 80 yrs old, my mother is almost 84). My sister who lives in the same state goes there at least once a week, usually twice, so he can get out and do what he needs to do. I feel bad, being long-distance like this.
I also call my former FIL at least once a month. He's an awesome person, and I keep him updated on DSs.
I am remarried, DH's mother died a few years ago

His dad lives a few minutes away, we see him and his wife every couple of weeks but I don't call them on the phone ever, there's no reason to. I don't dislike them, but we are not close at all, in any form of the word.
