How often are you late to work?

Never late, but always rushing!

Im salaried and usually work 7:30 - 4:30. Some people work 8-5, others work 9-6. Im usually the first in - or at the most the third person in. No one really knows or pays attention to what time I arrive. I always try to be here on time. But with a 15 month old, daycare that doesnt open til 7, and a 20 minute drive its not always possible. So I am late by 5 minutes most days. BUT I eat lunch at my desk most days. And if the phone rings or someone comes in the office I help them. So I dont get a true lunch hour most days. And I always get my work done. Its really not an issue for anyone. If I had a job where the arrival time really matters - like retail or a call center - then I would make sure I was on time. I am one of those people that usually arrives everywhere early.

I am not surprised the grocery store clerk was written up. To arrive late by that much time so frequently - and to be sick 4 times in a month - she's lucky to still be employed at all.

I am an early person too, I hate being late for ANYTHING and I hate people who are late!!! I have actually been late for work once in 32 years and that was due to a faulty alarm clock!! I have a 40 minute commute and we are always open so even weather conditions don't keep me down!!! People who live right here in town are usually the one's that are late! :rolleyes1

I despise lateness. If your work day starts at 8am, you don't show up at 8 then go to the bathroom, check email and get a cup of coffee. You come in a little early to get all that stuff done and actually start WORKING at 8am.

:rotfl: I spend the first 15-20 minutes of my workday not working. I get a cup of coffee, chat with my co-workers and check my email and sometimes the Dis.

I have been at my job for 22 years and I was late one time and that was when I was working nights and was at my uncles wake.

There is no such thing as "late" at my job. You get here when you get here and you leave when you leave. (Unless there's a meeting; then you need to be here in time for it.) Some people get here at 6:00AM, and some at 10. Nobody really worries about you unless you're not here by 10:30 or so. We just have to get an average of 8 hours a day in for each working day in the calendar month. I frequently work on Saturdays to make up hours.

im an hourly employee and Im NEVER late.
I have every single clock in the house and all my watches set fast,,
Just so Im not late to anything,
I start to stress at the thought of being late...

I hate being late. I try to avoid it at all cost & really dislike when my coworkers arrive late.

Well, I guess I am the black sheep here. LIke Shelby, I am late every day. My husband swears at me all the time for being late. He has told me on many ocassions that I would be late for my own funeral! I made us so late for a wedding once, we scooted in right behind the brinde as she finished walking down the isle. BTY- no one noticed us they were all looking at her! :thumbsup2 He swore at me and I wold him I promised to NEVER do again...

I work at a salary based job. I am contrated for so many hours per week per school year. On my recent Staff Evaluation form I scored a 9 out of 10 points - the one point off for not being so punctual... :confused3 If there is a meeting or event that I HAVE to be ontime for, I am most usually pretty punctual. I am no stranger to rushing around the house like a crazy  woman in the morning before heading to work or school with the kids looking for the lost shoe or misplaced homework.

What I dont work or over work can be made up or taken away if needed. I also am usually the last to leave the office, after I have more than made up my time for my late arrival. Or put time in that I dont document on my time sheet. It all evens out ... :rolleyes1

I'm never late for work because my work comes to me! I'm a nanny for a 5 month old baby, and she comes to my house each day at 8:00 am. Her parents are good friends of mine, and they have a key to our house so even if I were to oversleep some morning they would come right in, wake me up, and drop off the baby. (edited to add: not that this has ever happened!) :teeth: I love my job!
The parents are very prompt people, too, and they respect my time. Mom drops off the baby in the morning, and dad picks up in the evening, but if for some reason the dad gets stuck in a meeting, he calls the mom to let her know and she'll leave work to pick up the baby. His job sometimes schedules meetings on him like that, but hers is more flexible with hours.

In general, though, I'm a "get there early" person. I've had my share of late times, but for the most part I prefer to arrive 5-15 minutes early depending on the situation/event. I've done retail, temp work, office/clerical, day care, children's ministry, college student ministry, taught voice lessons and taught preschool. I rarely was late for any of my jobs, and I didn't call in sick unless I was too sick to come or if my illness would be a risk to the babies I took care of in the day care.

I can totally understand why that sales clerk was written up - if I were her supervisor it would have happened earlier!

I've been late twice in the past year and hate it. Both were because of idiotic drivers that had accidents in the tunnel which STOPS everything on the Interstate...a parking lot. I call as soon as I know that's what it is. Grrrrrrr. They're always fender benders. I'm sure these people get some nasty looks when everyone gets moving again.

In general, I'm at work 10-20 minutes early each day. You know your employee is waiting at the clock to get the correct 1/4 hour when they punch in on the first minute of it...consistently!

I'm not. I'm salaried and I arrive 45 minutes early and stay late (as late as I need too). If something ever happened that I had to be I would call and let them know and get there as fast as I could.

I do take my sick time when it is needed. I teach so I catch a lot of nasty germs. But I don't take more than necessary and never more than I have.

I never thought about it until now but...
in the 15 years I've been teaching, I've never been late once.

In fact, I'm at least 20 minutes early every 180 student days of the year.

When I was still working I was salaried. But I worked from 7 a.m.- 3 p.m. I worked in an emergency department that they kept going in 3 shifts, 24 hours a day. I got to work early, fixed the coffee and made some for myself, called my now-husband and said good morning, and was behind my desk working at around 6:55 (the loser 3rd shift guy hit the door as soon as I walked in).

I was late only once. I called the 3rd shift gal and told her I may be late. I was having stomach trouble, if you know what I mean, and couldn't get out the door. I ended up walking in the office at 7:05 and they all laughed at me for being so worried about being late.

The office I work in is very laid back and so I haven't needed to watch myself closely in the mornings to make sure I'm on time. Having said that, I'm not usually late. But I sure like the freedom to be a couple minutes late if I needed to without reprocussions.

I've never been late. I am very lucky that I live 10 minutes away from my school. I am like most teachers and arrive early.

i'm always on time, but for some reason my boss believes that i don't get into work until a half an hour to an hour after i actually do. she has actually basically told me that she's never seen me in before 9:30 - 10 am, when in fact she has and i have witnesses (the funny part is that i'm not in like a paid per hour position).

i also always work at least a half an hour to an hour later than i should.

I leave early...........that way, if I hit traffic or a train (or every red light)..........I'll still be on time. My kids are expected to be there, so will I. Besides, nothing like starting the day off on the wrong foot with kids if their routine is disrupted. I've been 2-5 minutes late twice this school year.........I call ahead when I know I'm going to be late and ask a colleague to take the children in to her classroom, but it's still not a good start for them!

I'm punctual and I think it's disrespectful to be chronically late for committments. I work in an office that's mostly salaried folks and we have to cover 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Luckily we have a mix of earlys and lates and the boss doesn't have to dictate schedules. I work sevenish to fourish. They get their money's worth and I get flexibility when I need it.

However, this laid back atmosphere leads some to believe that no one notices that he comes in at 9:00 and leaves around 4:15. We do.

About the respect issue, people who cannot make it to meetings on time are disrespectful. The start time is not a secret.

I am never, ever late! My boss is late every single day! She arrives 15-30 minutes late every single day. She says that she read a book one time, something about lincoln on leadership that said that the boss should arrive late for work everyday so that it gives all the employees time to be in their desks and it wouldn't look like the boss was watching the clock to see how many showed up late. I told her that is a great concept except that no one in our office is late except for her, and that I personally believe in leading by example :teeth:
