How odd are you? --> Packing

B&D cordless screw driver.......
We were on a road trip and I always have the car packed to the max with any thing I think we might need including MY tool box(DH wouldnt know what to do with it, the only callus he has on his hands are from his golf clubs)

We stayed at this old road side motel (right out of the 60's) and during the night the cover on the A/C started to make noise and we tried to fix it with stuff in the room and nothing worked so I got the old cordless from the trunk and tore the thing apart and fixed it.

So I started to bring it on all trips and have even used it on our last cruise. I dont like waiting around for maintenance wasting my time when I can fix it myself and be on my way. :flower:

I always bring my portable DVD player and some DVD's to watch at the airport, on the plane and then hook it up to the tv in the room. My DD age 23 has to bring along her Mr. Bigglesworth stuffed cat. she says she can't sleep without it under her arm in a certain way. housekeeping always has him posed in weird ways or puts him in the window when we return to the room. :)

We'll be flying to WDW from CA next month. I'd like my DDs to bring their portable DVD players, but the batteries are only 2.5 hour batteries. Can they be plugged into the plane? We're flying on American Airlines.

I've stuffed mine in my carryon, I've packed it in my checked luggage, and I've even just hand carried it on the plane with me. Another thing I've done is just found a Target or Walmart wherever I was travelling to and bought a pillow there, then just left it in the hotel room when I went home.

As far as everyone wanting their own, you could just tell them that if they can leave enough room in the suitcase, or if they want to carry it themselves, they can bring their pillow, and if not, too bad!

You can also carry it on. They let me put mine behind my back for the flight or on my lap during take off and landing. I don't bring a purse though... what's the point? Plus, you can stuff a teddy bear into the pillow case too. It is great for sleeping on the plane!

***Yes, teddy bear. I am a married 24 year old who still sleeps with a teddy bear. My DH doesn't care. At least it is a Mickey Teddy Bear!

A Gallon of Salsa
A cordless screwdiver
A hole punch

That's some weird stuff. :earseek:

Happy Packing!

A friend of ours always travels with Huckleberry Jelly since you can't hardly find it anywhere. He's addicted to it. Put's it on toast, chicken, pancakes, waffles, pork chops, you name it!

A lot of what has been posted is normal for us. The only thing my DH always packs that I haven't seen listed is a flashlight. He says it's incase the power goes out. It's never happened yet, but...we pack it anyway!

I pack my laundry detergent in zip locks too. And I bring half full bottles of shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc. This way they are all used up by the time I leave and won't have to transport the bottles back home, just use it up and throw it out.

I bring a mini flashlight to read by - I never thought it was a weird thing to bring.

An extra pair of contact lenses -- just in case I drop or rip one.

My make-up bag -- which is weird because I rarely wear make-up at home, and never wear it on vacation, but always want it around "just in case"

I can go along with the screwdriver and the hole punch - never know when you are going to need to get organized..... but a whole gallon of salsa? Here in Texas we think of it as a necessary condiment, but not as a beverage???? LOL

tallpkb -- we fly American Airlines quite a bit. Sometimes they have chargers for laptops/dvds and sometimes they don't. I haven't checked in a while, so maybe by now they have upgraded all of their planes with them. I'd give them a call to ask about it.

Yep, I'm hijacking the thread to.... who brings the least luggage? I'm with a previous poster -- we each bring one carry-on suitcase and one backpack. If you can't carry it, you can't bring it. And this is with DD8 and DS 15. Can't stand the hassle of checking luggage and having to haul all that "stuff". Went on a cruise last November with "the girls" and they all were overpacked but the worst was 5 pieces of luggage and then she bought 20 cartons of cigarettes and expected us each to share the load -- no way Jose, nothing would fit in my 21" bag :rotfl2:

Yeh, at times I wish I had .... but I can always buy it if absolutely necessary. This vacation I'm wanting to bring a coffee pot (already bought it) but it's not gonna fit ... what to do???

BTW, I always bring a mini-flashlight and my own shampoo and conditioner.

VERY GOOD IDEA...HAVENT THOUGHT OF THAT

We always bring 1 or 2 mini mag flashlights. We carry them into the parks and if the dark rides get stopped, we can cover the end with our hand and let the kids have a little light. The oddest thing is what we bring back. I lugged 3 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts back with me. The closest place to get them is 5 hours one way so we bring them home for the family. Oh well, at least they taste good.

Sometimes... check the AA.com website and a website called (I think seatmaps.com)
it will have seatmaps for the plane you're on, and whether the seats have plugs for
AC adapters. You may have to get an adapter for the AC plug on the plane, it's not
standard.

We always bring back Dunkin Donuts, we dont have one near us.

Out of the ordinary always pack a blow up bed sometimes somebody just needs to be alone.

On another note, I am desperate to find laundry tabs, do they still make them?, son going to college and easier for him and I always pack them.

We couldn't find them any more either that's why we do the zip lock bags of powder. BTW: It sure looks funny when they open your bag and find your baggies of "white powder". How embarrassing!! :rolleyes1

I tried to do just carry ons, one bag for each DH & I, and one for both DD's. But as we were rolling through the airport, :rotfl: we turned back and checked everything. Everything but my salsa!! :cool1: We didn't have to wait long to check or to get our bags, so it was a whole lot easier than having to carry all the bags & watch the kids. Plus, it was a direct flight so I wasn't too worried about lost luggage. If It had been connecting flights, we would have carried (rolled) it all.

We have taken a blow up bed also (plan on doing it on our Oct. trip, too), for my 17yo daughter's boyfriend, when he comes with us.

I have just about given up on those laundry tabs. I always used to buy them exclusively for vacations - they were perfect for that! I think maybe they were a fad that's gone away, though, because I can never find them anymore :(
