How odd are you? --> Packing

its more what we don't pack. I only like to do carry-ons, so we pack very little anymore. Just clothes, meds and toileties.

Ok, my favorite so far has got to be the salsa! :rotfl2:

I thought I might be the oddest!! :rotfl2: But everyone that has tried it, is hooked on it. I call it my "drug", and I go to "score some." :rotfl2: It won't be as funny when they open up their own store, and I can get it there. Not meet in a parking lot! :rotfl2:
I actually carried it on the plane in a cooler as my one and only allowed carry on. I was not letting it out of my site! :rotfl2: We stayed off site, in a house with a couple families. All laughed at me. And I shared. Usually, the gallon lasts 2 weeks. On vacation with SIL& BIL's family, it lasted a week. At Disney with our friends, I was lucky to have it last past Sunday. We were there from Thurs. to the following Fri. morning. Everyone, but us and another family arrived Fri. So, It would have been gone in 2 days! And I used the container to put a viking hat in, on the flight home. You should have seen the security people when the bag went through the scanner for the flight home. A plastic container with an upside down viking hat in it. :rotfl2: Now the ones that were with us, buy it by the half gallon. And I am the one to "score" it for them! :rotfl2:

I love the salsa! :rotfl:
We've also got a 'master' list for travelling, with customizing for trips
as needed..
I think i've got you all beat. After realizing how much "stuff" we bring down to
WDW, and how much it took to lug it to/from home/airport/car/resort..we
ship a black lockable bin with stuff.
Extra coffee -ground before we go
Extra tea -mostly for the DD's and evening (decaf)
GMRS radios -these always trigger a deep search by DHS at the airport
photo vests
pins/lanyards
CD player w/speakers
5port ethernet hub/cables (once one of you has logged on and paid $$ for
net access, anyone else can get on using the hub)
ponchos/light raincoats
detergent/dryer sheets
extra AA batteries (48 for $10.00us at Costco)
travel mugs
cutting knife/cutting board (usually if we're not at our DVC home)
quite often extra shoes/Teva's, etc
down vests (pack very small and are good shock absorbing material)
the mickey lights that we bought on previous trips.
spare cameras
chargers for camcorders and such
film (so's it doesnt get fogged by DHS)
Daybag (for carrying stuff around the parks)

I usually ship this FEDEX 3 day before we go, and send it directly to the
resort, with a 'hold for arrival' tag on it. I also put my ressie ## on it, too.
I've gotten some very interesting looks from the hotel CM's, but they've told
me that esepcially over Christmas, lots of guests do this, especially at a
DVC resort. Works like a champ.

It goes home the same way, I've got FEDEX airbills in my laptop bag, and
I have a FEDEX account. I get it to the front desk and it goes on it's way, and
back home in a few days. Doesn't cost that much, either..

We drive down so sometimes we get to throw things in we wouldn't if we flew. The Gamecube goes in, it plugs into the dvd player in the car and they play it on the way down. We don't use it at OKW, though, since the tv's don't have the correct hookups.

Always bring our laptop, once i was watching one of my biggest auctions (for a Disney christmas vacation in VWL) end while I was down in Disney. That was fun!

Caramel scented candles, so the room smells more like a home than a cleaning closet.

Big plastic trash bags, because between the trash and the dirty clothes we generate, there's no way those itty bitty trash bags that disney has will work.

Our own coffee mugs. We usually buy one or two when we're down there but we have these beat up mugs that are big and great for the microwave.

Our own pillows.

Little boxes of cereal. Good for snacks, easy to stick in the purse, we always use them.

Entire case of sport top bottled water. We'll get it at Costco and burn through the entire case in one trip. Keep some in the freezer and put them in the stroller next morning mostly frozen, we're good to go all day.

The candles are my favorite. Just don't forget to blow them out when you leave! The body shop has mint chocolate chip smelling ones that I'm trying for the next trip-each trip has a unique scent associated with it!

Are you sure they're putting cilantro in that salsa and not wacky tabacky? :rotfl:

The Glade Plug-In Nightlight/extra outlet is a great idea. Also never forget power strip for all things to plug in. My newest thing I can't live without is Febreze (spelling?) - freshens up everything in suitcase, room, car, etc. :earsboy:

I always bring a new bath scrungie on a stick for every one,
A power strip
2 extra duffle bags for stuff going back
clothes line and pins
B&D cordless screw driver
hangers
over the door hangers
our own pillows/satin cases(hair issue)
pre-address lables for post cards

What do you do with the B&D cordless screw driver?

Wow! I've just read through this entire thread and I'm amazed. My DH always says we overpack, but we are nothing compared to some things listed here :)

Here's the "odd" stuff we bring:

fitted sheets (I can't stand when hotels use normal sheets as fitted sheets, they always come off) PLUS I usually bring our own pillowcases (I'm a slight germ-o-phob)

fan (this is a new one for us)

scissors (in packed luggage, for taking off wristbands mostly)

my slippers

portable dvd player (for on the plane and at night so the kids can watch a movie and we can use the tv)

I never thought about bringing pillows, but I'd love to (we do when we travel by car). How do you bring them? My only concern is that there are 4 of us and if I brought one, everyone would want their own. Bringing 4 full size pillows in our checked luggage seems unreasonable. I'd love to know how you do this!!

:rotfl2: I am sure, but to see me "making a buy" and eating it, you would think something funny was in it. I even had the cops circle around 3 times one day. I was on the cell talking to U-Haul, trying to get info about having a hitch put on. They drove past once. Drove past again, still on hold with U-haul. Then drove past a third time. If they came back the fourth time, I was already gone. It was hilarious. I coldn't see which cop it was, but I probably went to school with them, or my husband coached their kids. Too funny!

I've stuffed mine in my carryon, I've packed it in my checked luggage, and I've even just hand carried it on the plane with me. Another thing I've done is just found a Target or Walmart wherever I was travelling to and bought a pillow there, then just left it in the hotel room when I went home.

As far as everyone wanting their own, you could just tell them that if they can leave enough room in the suitcase, or if they want to carry it themselves, they can bring their pillow, and if not, too bad!

Nothing out of the ordinary for our normal trips, but we're going over Christmas this year so I'll be packing a 3' artificial tree w/ ornaments, gifts for the kids, and all our stockings.

Well I am about the oddest thing that I am bringing :rotfl2:

I was thinking about bringing some WD-40...Dad says that fixes everything. :rotfl:

Seriously..since we are driving, we have plenty of space to pack things. DVD player and movies (probably won't need, but will be nice to have just in case), several gallons of water (at $.39/gallon here, you bet I am bringing water from home), all of our Mickey stuffed animals, wife's travel pillow, probably our own pillows (just way too comfy), chai tea (it appears as though resorts don't have it down there, so if I want some in the morning, gotta bring my own), maybe a fan (for me, wife can do w/o). That's about it for "strange" stuff.

When my DH and I went to Europe for 3 weeks this spring we packed 4 large suitcases, two carry on bags and my backpack/purse. My son and his wife packed two carryon suitcases and two backpacks. We all looked lovely!

We are sticking with one suitcase each to go to BCR this Sept! I expect to cry the whole time about what we left behind......

I always OVERPACK. I just tried to list the ODD items. Everything posted so far, seems perfectly normal to me. :confused3
If you asked my husband, I don't think he would put me in the normal list, just the ODD list. :rotfl2:

A "chip clip" or two, to hold the curtains together at night (I have to have a dark room to sleep in).
I also take about 6 plastic clothespins that have a hook on the other end - great for hanging hand washables on the shower line.
Travel corkscrew and two acrylic wine glasses.

Love the 3-plug adapter idea - I'll have to put that one on my list!

I always bring my portable DVD player and some DVD's to watch at the airport, on the plane and then hook it up to the tv in the room. My DD age 23 has to bring along her Mr. Bigglesworth stuffed cat. she says she can't sleep without it under her arm in a certain way. housekeeping always has him posed in weird ways or puts him in the window when we return to the room. :)

Oh MY....

I no longer feel bad humping around 175 pounds of shoes, perfume and designer clothes :rotfl2: for a 5 day trip :rotfl2:

I am also curious about the cordless screwdriver? Is there remodeling going on :rotfl2:

By the way, if you think this post is funny, there is a cruise addicts board. You should read about what the "cruisers" bring with them....OMG

My hubby used to think I was odd because I always brought toilet paper with me everywhere...until he had to use it! ;)

I use toilet paper for wiping butt...nose, hands
dustrag
use for a pillow
use as a step-up for little ones at the sink
notepad :rotfl:

If you see a roll trying to get away at the airport, it's mine :rotfl2:

but then I'd need my grinder, and fresh beans, and syrup...

So, now I'm trying to figure out how to pack 14 days worth of bottled Starbucks lattes instead.

Dh thinks I'm nuts, but I'm grumpy without my Starbucks fix every day!

Try bringing some flavored coffee you can pick up at the grocery store. That's what gets me through no Starbucks! LOL! :worship:
