How obsessively do you guard your stuff on Castaway Cay?

We are pretty obsesssive about our stuff. We bring our own snorkel gear and the snorkel backpacks — they were an investment for our family and valuable enough that we feel we need to guard them. I use an AquaPac for my phone on every single water/beach trip we take so my phone is always around my neck. And then there is my expensive camera.....

I wouldn’t wirry too much about sand buckets but our snorkel gear, phones and camera are all watched very closely.

On our last cruise our table mates had their wallet and valuables stolen at castaway cay. They lost all of their money and spent most of their last night at guest services.

Honestly, whenever we go to the beach, wherever we are, we don't worry too much about our stuff.

No need for money on Castaway Cay.
My driver's license is back-to-back with my key to the world card.
That is either around my neck or in the beach bag.
Phone (if I bring it) is zipped deep inside my beach bag/

Suncreen, beach toys, snorkel... Honestly, I'd rather assume people are honest and occasionally take risks than be paranoid.

The only time I've EVER had something taken was on Aruba--on a ship's excursion someone took 2 out of our 4 beach towels!
(And then #3 disappeared while we were eating lunch.)
That was wierd!

They were ship towels, too. Nothing special!

I don't worry at all, but also don't bring anything of value (other than our driver's licenses). We were just there (twice! double dip:)) in June and we just had a backpack with sunscreen, KTTW cards, licenses, sunglasses, goggles and sand toys. We left backpack on chair and was never worried.

Since I didn't want to be worried about phones, we just left them on the ship.

As for stealing plastic doodads, that only happened once (accidentally) and our 2 year old made it known his sand toy had been taken!

But why would you take a money to Castaway Cay???

I see a bunch of threads here and on Cruise Critic about securing MONEY. There is no need to have it!

I know we asked them the same thing. That’s what I like about cc and the ship is that you don’t have to carry cash. They are a young couple early 20s and he said he just grabbed his phone and wallet out of habit.

We were there a couple of months ago. We had some toys and other items that our grandkids were using. There were some other kids there that did not have toys - so they shared. We left for lunch and parasailing and asked if they would just leave all of our items in a spot we designated. Came back 2 hours later, and everything was right there just like we asked, along with all the other items we left in our chairs. Like some of the other post, don't advertise or leave money or expensive things in the open. I may be partial but, it just feels like those on DCL are just sorta like family when you are cruising together, and yes there are some black sheep in the family too..... just be smart about it.

What size of Kyss bags does everyone use? I’ve looked at these a few times and they are almost always sold out.

We have the medium size for 2 adults and 2 young kids. We have a separate mesh bag for sand toys etc. The website states when they will have stock again. I pre-ordered mine and it shipped when expected.

Interesting that all 3 sizes are the same price ($44.99).

How obsessively do you guard your stuff on Castaway Cay?

Not obsessively at all. We only take towels, KTTW card, ID (driver's licence), sunblock, hat, waterproof camera.

The camera stays attached to my wrist, and KTTW cards and DL can get wet so they go in the swimsuit. Hats and sunblock - no one's interested. If my towel goes "missing" just pick up another one.

Why does anyone need to bring money, phone, electronics, valuables onto Castaway Key?

We just bought this safe for our cruise in two weeks. We think we will use it more for our excursions to public beaches. When we were at CC in January 2017 we just left everything in our beach bag and felt very safe with it in there. I had a waterproof case for my phone so we brought that for pictures and left everything else.

We bought that same safe for use on Castaway Cay several years ago. It worked just fine, but it is very small. When we went in the water, we secured our phones in that safe. I believe in order to make them all fit, we had to remove the phone cases.

Why does anyone need to bring money, phone, electronics, valuables onto Castaway Key?
For us, phone = camera. I loved being able to see photos my teenage children took. Their perspective is different from mine, so having their phones is how we got such a great variety of photos.

We have always just left our stuff in a bag on our chairs on Castaway and have never had anything taken or turn up missing. We usually take our phones and my husband takes a camera, but that is usually the only valuables we take.

My kids would consider their coconut-shaped drink container to be valuable and would hate to see it disappear! :-) We don't worry about our stuff at all, we plonk down near chairs and may come back from time to time. Our camera is waterproof and is on a wrist at all times. I'd actually miss my crocs if they were to disappear on me...

I've always said "If you can afford to go on a Disney Cruise, you don't need to take my stuff!"

But that being said, kids will be kids and idiots will be idiots!!

Since it's a beach - we don't take much stuff. I know that most people these days think that phones and iPads are cameras.... :rolleyes1 but I leave those in my room and bring my camera that's drop-able from 6 feet, water proof to 30 feet and sand proof.

For my room keys and cash (DW puts her chap stick in there too) - we have the absolute best (cheapest) souvenir that we have ever purchased from DCL (about 20 years ago) - a water proof box lanyard about the size of a cigarette pack. Was only 3 or 5 bucks!! (way back then). One of us wears it all of the time. Other than my camera which I keep with me and the box, we only take DCL's towels, flip flops, sun screen, hats and coverups. So there's really nothing of value that we leave at our chairs as we are off playing (at any beach).

We use waterproof cases like this for our phones & KTTW card and keep it on our bodies at all times, even in the water. The rest of our stuff (clothes, towels, shoes, sand toys, etc.) we will leave for short periods of time unattended but I don't trust anything being left for long. I'd never leave anything valuable. Most people are honest but there are plenty of unattended older kids, some of whom like to cause trouble, and a handful of terrible adults that will steal or vandalize, even on a Disney Cruise.

We bought the same type of waterproof box lanyard when we went on our first DCL cruise on our honeymoon 17 years ago!! We've moved 5 times since then I haven't been able to locate it. I keep hoping someday I'll find it and will be able to take it with us on our next cruise.

We'll be bringing our own sand toys and snorkels and other water toys to Castaway Cay. None of it is worth anything. Do we need to "assign" one person in the party to be with the stuff at all times, or can we be fairly confidant that our entire party can go do our thing and our plastic doodads will remain where we left it?
I've been to CC several times, and I've worried about people taking my stuff.
