How much would you spend for king size bedding set?

I'd like to get a new bedding set...something a little more formal, and less casual. I found a really nice Calvin Klein set (king size bed) that DH & I actually both really like...this in itself is difficult, cuz we usually don't agree on bedding. AND it matches w/whats in our room, furniture and paint. For 3 european shams, 1 fitted sheet, 4 king pillowcases, king comforter and bed ruffle thing on the bottom it comes to around $500. Both DH & my mom think thats expensive for bedding. What do you guys think? Does that sound high? Or expected?

I spent just under $500 for a king size formal bedspread, I ordered the dust ruffle, shams, and curtains to match. This was years ago, I've since gone more casual/different theme for under $200.
I had that formal set in my bedroom constantly for about 8 years, until DH couldn't stand it anymore. I didn't allow anyone to sit on it and I took the bedspread off everynight. What DH puts up with LOL
Guess I got my monies worth though LOL

I have a Nautica set that was almost that much. I have a queen bed but I get a king comforter to have extra room. Yes, it was a lot of money but I really love it. This is my second expensive set and I have found that I keep them for longer and they have held up well. Can you find it online for cheaper? I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond so I could use the 20% off coupons.

This sounds about right for a Brand Name set. I would have a hard time paying that much for bedding though. We are going to get different bedding when we move so we will see what I can find. I would shop around and see if you can find it on sale somewhere. Check the internet to save some legwork.

I think I spent around $600 on mine, around four years ago. It's time for a new one (thanks to Chloe), but I'm not caving in until I can afford this:

Of course, to purchase it, I think it requires the sale of my first-born child. The duvet alone, is $800 and the throw is a measly $500.

My first nice bedding for our king bed was Waverly & even at Tuesday Morning, it still cost in the $300 range (12 years ago!) After 10 years though, I finally got tired of it & wanted something even more formal but didn't want to spend a small fortune. I just happened to be in TJ Maxx one day & I stumbled across this beautiful creamy taupe colored jacquard satin set with pillow shams, skirt, etc....all for about $200 (the roll & 2 round pillows with fringe to match the set cost me about another $100). I'm thrilled with it. My DH loves it too. We never did sit on our first bedspread so it wasn't hard to stay off of this one too. We don't take it off the bed completely, but we do turn it down (twice).

So if you've found a designer collection bedding, I don't think that's too much money. I think they last longer ~ you'll probably get your money's worth. I hope to keep my new one (well, it's 2 y/o already) for at least another 8 years!

Have fun! I get a big thrill out of re-doing a room. Will you also be buying new accessories for your room?

Am I There Yet ~ I'm salivating over that bedding! That photo you posted is similar to what I have now....but the sides are not scalloped & no fringe on the comforter ~ just the pillows. Also the jacquard print is a tad smaller! Again, mine is in a creamy taupe color.

I would keep looking at Tuesday Morning, Marshalls, TJ Maxx & Home Goods for something like that. You'd be surprised at what you can find at those stores but you have to keep hunting. Find out what days their truck comes in. Something like that bedding wouldn't be on their shelves for more than an hour probably! In fact, when I found mine, a store attendant was just putting out the pillows & then came out with the bedding & I almost just snatched it out of her hands!

I, too, am looking for new King size bedding but I think my SO would kill me if I spend over $600 on bedding....but, he doesn't really have to know does he? ;)

I found one at Macys that I absolutely love but just the comforter alone is $399 :rolleyes2

And, now everything is duvets. So I have to go buy a down comforter to put the duvet cover on? :confused3

The one I like is at Macys at well, and the current price is the sale price. I don't want a duvet..we have one with our current set, and I hate that the blanket keeps falling so you have just the duvet cover and blanket scrunched inside...thats why I want a new comforter.

We had Calvin Klein bedding for our queen bed and LOVED it... the quality was excellent and last awhile. We would still have it if we had not upgraded to a King bed. I would not hesitate spending that for the same set again... it was definitely worth it.

Minnie824,
Is it a brand that is also carried at Linens N Things or Bed,Bath & Beyond?
I found our Croscill set (king-size) at Macy's on sale but it was still pretty costly. I later saw it at BB&B at the same sale price as Macy's .... but I then used the 20% off coupons that are readily available for BB&B and that brought the price down to a manageable level. Maybe that'll work for you.

Linens-n-Things...$49 for the Bed-in-a-Bag set :woohoo:

Now thats my kind of bedding! No offense, but there is no way in heck I'd ever spend over $200 in bedding. There are so many different better things I could do with it....like saving it for when the sh*t hits the fan.

I got my son a Nautica Lakeshore Denim duvet cover and we found a great down comforter at Overstock.com for 30.00 (King size) to go inside it. It is SOOOOOoooo heavy!. I absolutely hate it and wish I could have found the Nautica Lakeshore Comforter instead in a king size. Sadly the only sizes we could find was twin, even on eBay :(

We spent around 199.00 on a nice comforter set from Linens and Things a few years ago. But if I had to buy again I'd definitely go with looking on eBay or Discount Linens online or Amazon (who has linens available through the discount site. You can find all sorts of brand name sets that have never been opened on eBay and get them for a lot less....even on Amazon they have some nice sets that are brand name for 1/2 the price in stores.

I have that!!! I just bought it in January when we got our new king bed. It is kinda goldish-yellowish. I was hoping it was more creamy. It was the right price and I do like it. The comforter does not go all the way over and the top sheet does not tuck in on the sides, but does at the bottom. We have another sheet set that we bought at Target as a backup and that one has since shrunk and doesnt tuck in on the sides either. I figured that I would buy that one to get something on the bed and then save for a new one. :)

Yeah, I figured it would be nice for Summer and the price is right to boot!

I do like it, I like that jaquard style. We have cherry bedroom furniture and I think that style looks nice and rich with it. When I found it, I ran to my L n T store to pick it up, they also have one that was kinda light blueish. If you do decide to get the I have also....can you please tell me what you are doing for curtains or anything....I thought about buying a 2nd comforter set and using the pillow sham and turning into a valance, but it just a teeeeney bit to short. So now I am having the hardest time matching that color LOL!
