How much would you pay for Tomatoes?

For "lemonade stand" tomato sales in front of your house, $1/lb is generally the price. Obviously, get more if you can. A friend of mine has a scale, tomatoes and an "honor box" secured to a heavy table in front of their house.

I would not expect to pay as much to a child at a stand selling tomatoes as I would at a real produce stand or market :confused3. I would price them to sell, and to give a good deal to my neighbors :).

We grew a lot of tomatoes this year - some are huge, some are regular size, some are plum tomatoes. How much would you pay for a really big homegrown tomato? My daughter wants to sell some, in lieu of a lemonade stand, she wants to have a tomato stand. ;)

I was thinking $1.00 for a really big one, 75 cents for the regular size, 2/75 cents for the plum size - does that sound too cheap or too expensive or just about right?

I had a tomato stand in front of my house in the late 1970's...
Would you believe we sold really big tomatoes for 20 cents each :rotfl:
Smaller ones for 10 cents...
5 cents for the roma ones.

Those were the days! :thumbsup2

Sounds cheap to me. My local farm stand charges $2.50/lb for tomatoes and I am happy to pay it.

Whole Foods has Jersey tomatoes $1.49-$1.99 per pound.

And my Daddy sold corn on the cob for $1 a dozen and always threw in a couple of extra ears "just in case". :goodvibes

My DD did the same thing this year. She's getting 50¢ for the slicers (a mid-sized variety) and 3/$1 for sauce/plum types. The best sellers are the cherry & grape tomatoes, though - at $2 a box they're still cheaper than the grocery store and ours taste way better.

Yes, I did plant way too many tomatoes this year... especially since I haven't used up last year's batch of canned salsa or spaghetti sauce yet! I
I'll stop by and pick up a tomato care pkg. lol
