How much would free dining really save me??

I applied for a Disney Visa back on 9/2 before I even knew about a free dining code. They said I'd get a decision in the mail in 15 to 30 days. The free dining dates are during my trip, but I already used the Fall Discount Code on my package.

We are currently paying about $1200 for 2 adults, magic your way package plus dining (with Parkhopper) at POP for 6 days/5 nights. I'm getting nervous because I haven't heard back on the VISA and I'd be upset if it could save us a lot of money.

Has anyone crunched the numbers? If they take away the Fall Discount and only apply free dining would it be cheaper? If they let me keep the Fall Discount it would obviously be much cheaper, but I've been reading conflicting reports.

I was so excited for my trip but now I am VERY nervous that my dates are going to be very crowded due to the free dining promotion (Dec 15 to 20th).

Thanks!

You can go to the disney web site and see what your total will be. Put in all your info (rack rate for the nights and your ticket info with or without any extra's you have) just don't add the dining option (because dining will be free) the total at the bottom of the page will be your cost with free dining.

The discount would be the cost of the dining plan for 2 adults for 5 nights.

$37.99 X 5 = $189.95
$189.95 X2 = $379.90

Your discount with the free dining code should be $379.90. If you saved more than than with your general public free dining code, then don't change it.

We have a family of 7, so the free dining code saves us about $1,600.00, where the fall discount code only saved us $637.00. So, the free dining code saved us $1,000.00 more.

The numbers will just depend on your resort and the number of people in your family.

According to my calculations, for 2 adults and 5 nights, you would save approximately $379.90. This is assuming that there are no discounts on the room. Some have posted that they received a discount on the room also! I think I would be calling Visa!

I called Chase to check the status of my application but, of course, all I got was a useless recording telling me I'd hear in writing in 7 to 10 business days (this is after waiting for 17 days already).

Did my calculations and Free Dining would save me about $55 from what I'm paying now. Not a huge difference, but every little bit counts. And if I got a room discount it would be even more, although I wouldn't expect that..

Hopefully I hear back from Chase sooner rather than later.

Just found out about the Disney Visa Free Dining offer - have a call into my TA but in the meanwhile, I've been trying to crunch some numbers to see if switching around our reservations would be worthwhile.

Current "package" for 2 adults
* Pop Century AP Room Rate 12/11 - 12/22 - have put 1 night deposit on this
* 1 Standard AP & 1 10-day MYW PH ticket - both already purchased
* Budgeted $60/day for food plus $125 for character meals

After reading the other thread (all 15 pages!) - I think we can do the following - any corrections would be appreciated:

* Keep our AP Rate Room for 12/11 - 12/13 on one resv
* Create a new resv for 12/14-12/22 - rack room rate + free dining + 2 1-day MYW tickets
* Keep our existing tickets & still budget $60/day for the first 3 days

It may not save us much money (between $40-$60) , but we'll be eating more TS meals if we can get on the dining plan (assuming ADR's can be gotten) than we would otherwise.

What are your numbers?

When I booked our December package in June our total was about $4,800.00 for 8 nights at All-Star Movies with 2 rooms and 8 day hoppers for all 7 of us. With the free dining coded added, it dropped our total to about $3,200.00. That's about a $1,600.00 savings (and is also the cost of the dining plan for all 7 of us for 8 nights). So there was not a room discount on our free dining reservation.

I am a little confused--nothing new.:) But in the package is the room not included in the price? According to DIS, the following is the plan:

Rates low as:

$63 per person per day for a family of four in a standard room at a select Disney Value Resort
Includes Complimentary Magic Your Way Dining
Travel Dates:

September 28 - October 11
November 9 - November 22
December 14 - December 20

Thanks!

Yes, remember it's per person and 4 are in the room with the example, 2 of which are children so they don't pay the extra person charge just their tickets.

Disney regular rate - about 2200.00

Ooh boy - here's what our TA just came back with! :cool1:

Room Only Pop Century - Preferred Room 12/11-14 Total $256.5 Deposit already paid

Disney Visa Free Dining Package 12/14-12/20 1 day Base ticket Free Dining No Insurance Total Price $790.86

Room Only Pop Century - Preferred Room 12/20-12/22 Total $256.50 Deposit required $92.60

I wrote back asking her to check if our last 2 days could be included in the free dining package, as others had been able to roll their extra days in.

So we're looking at just over $1300 at this point - we already paid $823.94 for our tickets (10 day MYW PH & 1 AP) - so our total for the WDW portion of the trip will be around $2200 - including out of pocket meals.:woohoo:

The AAA agent said the disney code QXV wasn't good for our dates although we are going 11/9-11/15. When i posted that here someone said disney cm said to try DVL instead so we called back and asked AAA TA to try that. and she left a message for us that it worked ... when i called back today she was out but another agent told me the new total. hope it worked! haven't seen any paper work yet!

If you can't have the last 2 nights added in to free dining, there is an AP discount then. THe AP discount is through the 23rd of Dec.

Does anyone know what rate code DVL is for..is it free dining? I just left a msg w/the TA to try it and see what happens. Crossing my fingers.

Okay, I was told the Disney Visa Code is QXZ. Now I see QXV listed and DVL. Are these all Disney Visa Codes? Someone please explain.

we dont have a disney visa yet, but recently applied. we booked the fall room discount for 2 adults from 12/13-12/19 at POR w/ 7 day park hoppers and dining plan for $1688. when we booked we asked how much it would be for the visa free dining and were told it would be $1402 for 12/14-12/19, plus $168 for a single night at POR 12/13 (w/out dining). so that is $1570 and we pay oop for meals the first day. using the price of the DDP for 1 day ($78) as our oop estimate that would bring it to $1648, so the fall room discount is almost as good for us (only $40 difference). we'll still call back when we get our disney visa to see what the exact difference is, because this stuff is confusing. i just wrote this post and im not sure if i even understand it.
