Hi, We were wondering what the norm is daily to tip the Mousekeeper??? We are a family of 3 staying at ALL Star Movies. Also wondering if you are supposed to tip servers when you have the Disney Meal Plan???

Silly Questions I am sure..but if you can..could you help me clear this up??.
Thanks in advance.

The tip is included in your meal plan, but I would personally tip more if they did a great job.

I usually tip mousekeeping $2 a day, but you could tip a $1 per person per day. It just depends on how much YOU would like to tip.

IMO, you should tip Mousekeeping nothing, as they are not considered a tiped position.

Now if you want to go by what those on the "Dis" seem to do (on average) $1 per person per day, left daily.

Just a question... what is considered a tiped position?? I guess I always tipped a person who diserved a little more than the minimum wage that they are making? I feel bad for them!! They work so hard!! :flower:

:smooth: I understand that when it comes to money everyone has their own ideas on how it should be spent. I believe in tipping mousekeeping. The min. wage they make is just a base pay (to me). I leave 5 dollars a day. I also make sure our room is half way decent. I appreciate the "extra" service.

Could someone direct me to where Disney says that housekeeping is not a tiped position? B/c I have always tiped housekeeping no matter where i have stayed (Disney or otherwise). :confused3 This is how i was taught by my parents and what I am teaching my children. We have always received excellent service and our last stay at POR in April, our housekeeper went above and beyond the call of duty to keep our two adjoining rooms clean. :cheer2: She left all kind of towel sculptures every day. She played an ongoing game of "set my daughters ever increasing stuffed animal collection" up in different scenes. My daughters would leave them somewhere, on a table, in the bathroom, ect and when we came back to the room they would be set up in an extravagant scene. One time she put them all in the tub and had plastic bags under them so it look like water, some had washclothes, some had soap and shampoo rubberbanded to their hands so it look liked they were washing each other off it was so cute! I think she appreciated the tips we left every day, and we appreciated her effort.

Yep I am cheap. ;) I also don't tip other non-tipped positions, the counter service folks, the CM's who work attractions, the characters who spend all day in hot costumes so we can see them in person etc etc etc.

Rushing for flame retardent suit.

I am also not going to tip next trip. We are two adults....make our beds....wipe down our sink....hang our towels (because we like a neat room all the time). Even when we have left tips in special envelopes we have gotten no special treatment. Thus...from our experience...there will be no tipping this time. I work a minimum wage job and no one tips me for my service!

Flame on!

People disagree on whether is it APPROPRIATE to tip mousekeeping. It doesn't make them "cheap" because they have a different opinion than you do. :sad2:

I personally would not tip mousekeeping to get "special" treatment any more than I would tip a waiter to get extra service. I simply expect good service because that's part of the job. I tip the waiter because the bill has a line to add a tip. I tip my limousine driver because it says gratuity is not included.
I tip when, in my mind, it is appropriate. ;) BTW, I have always received excellent service from mousekeeping complete with towel animals :goodvibes

When I do tip, I try to be generous, at least 20%, more if the service has been extraordinary. I simply consider tipping housekeeping inapproriate. Just my opinion. YMMV :teeth: I think to call that "cheap' is... ummmm... a "cheap" shot :rolleyes1

Ok, maybe it is not considered to be a tipped position.......all the more reason to tip. Why not put a smile on their face, Make their day :)

Mousekeeping is one of those jobs I would never want to have. When I think of all the nasty, gross things they have been left for them to cleanup (i.e. the thread about the wierdest/grossest thing you've ever found in your hotel room), it makes me cringe.

All the body fluids from sick kids or drunken tourists, used items that never make it to the trash can, etc. (you know what I mean), and general lack of care because the mentality is that "it's not my room, so why care about being considerate".

Anyways- not that a tip from me would make up for the lack of class in other resort guests, I think that general appreciation for doing a job that rarely gets any positive recognition-yet is cruicial to the comfort of my stay- could easily be worth $35 (7 nights at $5 each).

And hey, if my kids get a few animal washcloths or their toys neatly diplayed-well great. And even if I got they got washcloth animals and other "perks" without tipping- I would still tip them.

Just put it in an envelope and put it away and then it's all paid for ahead of time.

It never occured to me to tip until my mom (who travels constantly) told me about it.

So whether you tip or not, we should all be considerate and not leave our rooms in utter chaos. In fact, this trip I am bringing a few kitchen garbage bags for trash since it always seem to overflow the room garbage cans. We seem to generate a lot of garbage and I hate it when it's falling out of the can.

I agree that it is not cheap to skip a mousekeeping tip- we get the service anyway. I just feel that I can afford to acknowledge a difficult job.

Exactly! ::yes::

I spent one summer working at a resort hotel, and even though I was a desk clerk, not a housekeeper, I lived with them and saw how hard they worked. I don't tip for special perks. I don't expect any, and I've never gotten any. I tend to be a generous tipper because I appreciate good service and think it should be rewarded.

Well, my parents raised me to tip at any hotel and I have always tipped. ($2/day for average service and $3 or more a day for excellent service. $1/day for less than average service and maybe nothing if I had truly poor service- it's not happened to me yet.) In fact it surprised me to learn that it wasn't on the list of tipped positions. However, tipping is a personal thing, and income, level of service, etc. are all factors.
My Disney mousekeepers have always gone over and above job requirements- leaving the little stuffed animal scenes, towel animals, fanning out my makeup brushes, etc. I would have felt terrible not acknowledging all of that effort and creativity. I'm a teacher :teacher: and I can tell you getting a little picture frame or card or letter from a student means A LOT. It makes me feel so good and makes me more motivated and helps me put up with the ones that give nothing but attitude! :earseek: That's why I tip. I am sure it helps them put up with the filth left by other guests. It feels nice to know your hard work is appreciated.
As far as guests who leave filth and nastiness behind, often not attempting to clean it up at all (accidents notwithstanding) I think that is much, much worse than not tipping. (though I would make a bet that a good percentage of filth leavers also do not tip :sad2: ) Those who treat the room like a pigpen shock me b/c I am sure they wouldn't do that in their own home!

Well put. I see what you all are saying. We may tip the $35, this sounds rather generous..and kind. We really aren't ones to leave a huge mess anyway...mostly would just need the beds made up. But I see the point in just making someone else's day too.

I agree with tipping. We always leave a little envelope at the end of our stay. At least 20$. I would'nt even consider not leaving something. They work hard, and I am sure don't make much money. Also in my mind it is a good example to our children to appreciate the people who work hard to make our stay special and comfortable.
