We are staying at the all star movies resource for 4 nights and would like to know how much we should tip housekeeping? Also are there special envelopes for tipping in our room? Do we tip daily, in advance or at the end?:confused3:surfweb:

Tip as much or as little as you like. You need to supply your own envelopes. Tip each day, since you will not likely have the same housekeeper every day.

I usually tip $5/day. Some people here on the Disboards make up special envelopes for their tips. I usually just use the notepad of paper in the room, write "Thank You" on it and fold the paper around the tip. I also leave a tip each day since the same person might not clean your room every day of your stay. I'd hate to wait until the end and have one housekeeper who maybe only cleaned one or two days of my stay get the tip for the whole stay.

We tip $6 a day - $2 for each of us. Not sure where I came up with that # but have been leaving that for years.

My husband is wondering why people are tipping housekeeping since normally we don't tip housekeeping when we stay at other non Disney hotels.

We tip housekeeping wherever we stay - Disney or not. Housekeeping is a service industry like waiting tables or cutting hair - I tip both of those - so I also tip housekeeping!

I agree. I tip wherever I stay. When I travel for business, the tips I leave for housekeeping are always reimbursed by my company. They consider tipping housekeeping a reasonable and expected expense.

We tip $2 a day for each person that is in our room. Whether it's on Disney property or off. For us it's just a nice way to say thank you for doing a good job.

Plus, DH loves making up the envelopes on the computer for the Mousekeepers.

$2 per person per day is a good rate. We aren't going until December, and I already have the Mousekeeping envelopes decorated and filled!!

As for non-Disney hotels, I tip there also.

Customary is $1-$2 per person per day...more if you have kids, less if you are really, really clean. We usually do $5 a day.

We also tip $5 per day and prepare envelopes before leaving for trip. When my sons were younger this was a good way to have fun and use Disney stickers!

We tipped one dollar per day per person PLUS one dollar. SO there were 5 of us and I left $6 a day. I don't know why I left the extra dollar but I read on here numerous times that is how ppl do it, so I thought I would go along with that. The last day I only left $5 because I didn't have an extra dollar in my purse, but the other 9 days they got $6.

I think we had different housekeepers some days because with us in the family suite there were 3 sleepers open every night for my kids to sleep in. Some days we would come in and the sleepers would be made up but still open, and some days they would be made up and closed back up to look like the furniture it is. SO it made me think we had different ppl sometimes.

That is why, IF you are going to tip, you should do it BY THE DAY because you may not have the same person every day and leaving one big tip at the end just goes to whoever happens to come clean your room on the day you leave. She may not have been the one to clean your room every day while you were there and she walks away with $20 or $30 or however much you leave them.

You will get a lot of ppl telling you that you really shouldn't tip the housekeepers because housekeeping is NOT a tipped position. HOWEVER ppl do tip them, whether they are a tipped position or not, ppl do. SO whether or not you tip is really not going to affect whether or not you get good cleanings because I am quite sure A LOT of ppl don't even know to tip. I only knew because of reading these boards for so long.

The main reason I tip is because there are 5 of us, with 3 sleepers and a bedroom to clean. They even cleaned up our little kitchen area in the family suite and arranged our snacks neatly on the shelves. And they cleaned 2 bathrooms in our room every day. Cleaning toilets for a living is one of the jobs I would never hope to have to do in my life, so I appreciate the ppl who do it for me.

I actually left the housekeeper a note on the first day and told her we didn't really need the sheets changed since we would only be there a little over one week and that she didn't have to scrub the toilets and tub every day because we don't clean that often (every day) at home either. I am not sure if they ever did change the sheets or not but they DID still clean the tubs and toilets every day. They may HAVE TO. I am not sure what they are required to do and what they can pass over for a long term stay like 10 days.

And of course there are a lot of other thankless, hard jobs of ppl making low pay who never get tipped....but ppl do tip housekeepers in hotels. SO there's that. You chose to tip or not to tip.

If I were trying to explain the ins and outs of WDW and the resorts to a friend or relative that had never been there before I would definitely tell them that some ppl choose to tip the housekeepers and some ppl don't tip them. They can decide what they are comfortable with. I left $6 a day for 10 days (except one day I left $5) So I left $59 over the course of 10 days. Considering we spent seven thousand dollars on the vacation, dropping another $59 to show our appreciation to the housekeepers was nothing. But for someone on a really tight budget sharing meals and scrimping to get by, $59 may be a lot of money to them and they just can't afford to do that.

I know some ppl only leave $2 or $3.

When my husband and I went alone we didn't stay on-site but if we had I still would have left $5 a day anyway even though the kids weren't with us.

But rather than get a lot of advice on how much to tip you will probably get a lot of ppl debating on whether or not you should even tip at all. I haven't read all the responses yet. I will go do that now.

This is all great advice. My husband is just questioning why people on Disney properties have started tipping housekeeping when typically on Off Disney sites people tend not to tip. He is still going to go along with it but said that unless people go these boards they would never know that things are done differently at Disney.

I was a housekeeper in ASMu and we did have to clean everything, perfectly, every day, regardless. They even had people who didn't clean rooms but their job was just to go and inspect random rooms and if we missed something they would come and find us and make us go fix it, lol. The managers would check random rooms too. So if they found that the housekeeper didn't clean something they make us go back and do it...

Housekeeping is the worst job I've ever had (this is coming from a girl who went to school for mortuary science and has done work in funeral homes, so I feel like I can back that statement up LOL. Embalming is joyful and fun compared to housekeeping at WDW...seriously!) and when I was doing the college program at Disney, I was THRILLED whenever I got tips. I made about $140/week after they took my rent from my check...as I'm sure everyone can imagine, it's not exactly fun trying to live on $140 a week. I'd say about 50% of people tipped and either would leave $20+ at the end of their stay if they didn't realize it could be a different person each day, or a few dollars a day.

I tip everywhere I stay for more than 1 night, Disney or not. I'm a very neat person and I never leave a mess, but I always tip $5 per day whether it's just me or me and my kids (the kids are neat too, or else). I don't know why I've never tipped for a one night stay, I just don't. I did notice that after I left the first envelope we started returning to find towel animals. The housekeeper made a soapdish out of a hand towel and organized our sink area even better than I had. I leave the tips in an envelope with a thank you card. I make them up before the trip and keep them in the safe with the rest of my cash and valuables.

I always tip housekeeping, not just at Disney -- this is customary throughout the United States. It may be different in other parts of the world.

We tip everywhere we stay. I just feel that since they are cleaning up after us (even tho I try to be as neat as possible with 3 little boys ;) ), they deserve a tip. I mean, we tip pizza delivery guys when all they do is bring us our food ! House/Mousekeeping do a lot more then they do! Anyway, we tip $5/day. $1 per person. :goodvibes
