We are staying at the all star movies resource for 4 nights and would like to know how much we should tip housekeeping? Also are there special envelopes for tipping in our room? Do we tip daily, in advance or at the end?

We tipped one dollar per day per person PLUS one dollar. SO there were 5 of us and I left $6 a day. I don't know why I left the extra dollar but I read on here numerous times that is how ppl do it, so I thought I would go along with that. The last day I only left $5 because I didn't have an extra dollar in my purse, but the other 9 days they got $6.
I think we had different housekeepers some days because with us in the family suite there were 3 sleepers open every night for my kids to sleep in. Some days we would come in and the sleepers would be made up but still open, and some days they would be made up and closed back up to look like the furniture it is. SO it made me think we had different ppl sometimes.
That is why, IF you are going to tip, you should do it BY THE DAY because you may not have the same person every day and leaving one big tip at the end just goes to whoever happens to come clean your room on the day you leave. She may not have been the one to clean your room every day while you were there and she walks away with $20 or $30 or however much you leave them.
You will get a lot of ppl telling you that you really shouldn't tip the housekeepers because housekeeping is NOT a tipped position. HOWEVER ppl do tip them, whether they are a tipped position or not, ppl do. SO whether or not you tip is really not going to affect whether or not you get good cleanings because I am quite sure A LOT of ppl don't even know to tip. I only knew because of reading these boards for so long.
The main reason I tip is because there are 5 of us, with 3 sleepers and a bedroom to clean. They even cleaned up our little kitchen area in the family suite and arranged our snacks neatly on the shelves. And they cleaned 2 bathrooms in our room every day. Cleaning toilets for a living is one of the jobs I would never hope to have to do in my life, so I appreciate the ppl who do it for me.
I actually left the housekeeper a note on the first day and told her we didn't really need the sheets changed since we would only be there a little over one week and that she didn't have to scrub the toilets and tub every day because we don't clean that often (every day) at home either. I am not sure if they ever did change the sheets or not but they DID still clean the tubs and toilets every day. They may HAVE TO. I am not sure what they are required to do and what they can pass over for a long term stay like 10 days.
And of course there are a lot of other thankless, hard jobs of ppl making low pay who never get tipped....but ppl do tip housekeepers in hotels. SO there's that. You chose to tip or not to tip.
If I were trying to explain the ins and outs of WDW and the resorts to a friend or relative that had never been there before I would definitely tell them that some ppl choose to tip the housekeepers and some ppl don't tip them. They can decide what they are comfortable with. I left $6 a day for 10 days (except one day I left $5) So I left $59 over the course of 10 days. Considering we spent seven thousand dollars on the vacation, dropping another $59 to show our appreciation to the housekeepers was nothing. But for someone on a really tight budget sharing meals and scrimping to get by, $59 may be a lot of money to them and they just can't afford to do that.
I know some ppl only leave $2 or $3.
When my husband and I went alone we didn't stay on-site but if we had I still would have left $5 a day anyway even though the kids weren't with us.
But rather than get a lot of advice on how much to tip you will probably get a lot of ppl debating on whether or not you should even tip at all. I haven't read all the responses yet. I will go do that now.
