How much should I be walking NOW to get ready for WDW?

I can see doing 6 miles a day. go for variety. Some days do 6 miles all at once, other times do 3 in the morning and at 3 at night.
If you plan to go to wake up Tink, you could always do some speed walking.

You could also try walking with the gear you expect use while in WDW. A chance to get use to the weight and feel. Not too important if only using a fanny pack, but I'm sure you seen some people who carry the backpack with stuff for the kids, cameras and other things.

When I first found "Disboards" that was my first post!!! Everyone told me that they walked an average of "8 to 12" miles a day (in the parks).

I mean I think approx 75 people responded to me...

We went 2 years ago and I only walked about 2 and a half miles a day leading up to our Disney vacation, and I believe I was one of those people that really did walk atleast 10 miles a day... My legs were definately tired at night but I did it just fine....

I leave in 3 days!!!!! Yippee!!!!!!! :cool1:

I have worn the coolmax socks from Target, they seem to work good. (Its a tip i found on the board last year before my first trip to Disney!)

Also, I am wanting to wear a pedometer... i wish i could of done it last year, we were going from 7:00 in the morning till 12 a night! Yikes!!! We were so tired on the last night, that i passed out in the tub... thank goodness i didnt drown, my mom was passed out on the bed in her clothes she was wearing that day, and my sister and nieces were all passed out.... but i have to say it was worth it!! :)

Okay, now I'm bummin. I just went and bought everyone thin socks thinking they would be cooler! Are you saying it is better as far as friction on the skin, but not too hot either? :confused3 My kids age 9 & 13 are fighting me on wearing flip flops too. I say NO WAY!

Let me tell you something... People said wear your most comfortable shoes... I wore Teva's..... At home and at the beach, very comfortable! Walk 15 miles in them!!!! I had blisters as big as WDW.. I had to purchase Disney Sneakers in Epcot... I say "Flip Flops" are a big no / no... I also bought Disney socks with my sneakers, by far the best investment of my trip...

Good socks help to absorb sweat and moisture and thus increase comfort. I also think they help reduce blisters. "CoolMax" or similar socks seem to work great.

As for flip flops, you will see lots of kids with them in the parks. I tried my sandals one day on our last trip and quickly got blisters on both feet. These sandals are very comfortable but were just not up to that much walking. I would really discourage the flip flops if you plan on walking a lot each day. Bring them along for a "down" day around the pool and for short park stays.

as far as the walking goes on our last trip my
DW would walk on the treadmill 4-5 times a week and go until she got tired. i did the same and when we arrived in WDW we were walking fools. we often left our 2DS's in the dust. what helped us was we also bought new sneakers, new balance, broke them in and some low cut sport socks and we were fine for all of the 10 days.

both of the boys wore their flip flops and sandals and the only problem they had was they forgot to sunblock the tops of their feet otherwise they never comlplained about their feet

I am not out of shape, but don't exercise that regularly. I have a treadmill and want to walk on it NOW so that *hopefully* my legs won't kill me at the Parks. How much do I need to walk? We leave in 55 days.

Thanks!

Stop designing t-shirts and start on that treadmill!!! :) Actually, we never put in any extra workouts (unless the remote control to the television is considered working out) but really never have a problem with all the walking. I guess its because we are excited and don't realize the amount that we are doing. But make sure you pack two pairs of comfortable shoes - ones that have been broken in already. This is crucial to a good trip!
